Feel like this review is biased, the reviewer seems to hate the minis in general. (I know its not for everyone) but saying mini's are barby cars, is really non car review level. Also if you see any other reviewer they will say the oposite. the JCW is a great sporty car, wheel isnt "dead" and it corners well. droped the ball on this one man
Very much so wrong person for the job. Probably because it was too hot. Well said i thought the same.
I really don't understand how or why people compare this JCW to the GTI. I owned a GTI and now own a JCW: it's not even close.
The JCW is so much sharper, much more agile, punchier. The turbo lag on the GTI is so much more perceptible than it is on the JCW. The suspension is so much softer on the GTI too. And i'm not even talking about the sound.
Really, I don't get it.
I receive mine in two months... Really looking forward to driving it. It is the same color with the black roof. Indeed I find it more nervous than the GTI
@Sakurr Gti is a warm hatch by modern day standards, its basically a base golf with some fancy looks and bigger engine. Still a fun car and I think its perfect balance for daily driving but its not so sharp like more intense hot hatches.
Which one do you have? From what year?
This person was too hot and couldn't be bothered to drive it. I've drove the car recently and loved it any lower wouldn't be a great idea not with the roads we have. Maybe on a track.
And i drove the manual more engaging. 2019 JWC And no sunroof.
The crome parts has always been on every generation of john cooper works, it’s not a new thing, also the r53 had them, the fact that you can customize the look of your car has always been the filosofy of mini, everyone can make it look the way they want. If you want it sportier you lower it, black it out, etc...
I have a JCW to and it feels exactly how you described in normal suspension mode. But when you put it in sports suspension it's quite good.

the JCW is too small for interior space. Cant get anything loaded into it

This is a perfect all round hot hatch for every day use. Dont know if Mini is competing the Megane RS or Focus for its handling. But driven this thing for 5 tkm now (its my wifes, so not that often), with a holiday to France and cant say any different that its a brilliant car. Very stable on high speed, enough comfortable and with a lot of fine options. And indeed, not a sharp tool for the NS or Stelvio.
Your review is like the opposite of what I've seen everyone else say lol,

Above 100kmh its really impressive. Am just watching this because a JCW passed me in my CL 500 while full throttle. Lol
BMW doesn't want the cooper to compete with 1, 2, 3, series bimmers! A 3 series comes with the SAME motor as yours but is boosted to 258hp

It moves on the braking because you're at 225km/h in a small car with a small wheelbase. Also, I think the weight distribution isn't really 50/50, so the back probably dancing a bit on the brakes.

I love the honest review, and completely agree with the JCW losing its directness.
AISIN 8 speed! ZF doesn't make a 8 speed transverse transmission.
It’s quite good for daily driver, for a performance car the turbo is too small and lacks power up top. Suspension is great especially in Sport mode, tires need to be upgraded to a performance summer tire up front, brakes are great for a hatchback, interior is better then most hatchbacks, sound system is decent. It fits right in between a great daily driver/ weekend sports hatch. I have a 2016 JCW for daily use and a Gen 1 raptor for weekend fun.
I have just bought a JCW ( pick it up next week ) 2019 plate so very interesting vid .. Grateful that you guys speak my lingo
It may be ‘soft’, but you’re driving an automatic etc.. if anyone wants the big hairy-chest driving experience then drive something with a clutch, not traction control and mud engines, left foot braking into H&T etc...
Here you’re driving a very, very well appointed all-rounder with startling performance, safety, emissions and economy (given what it is)
Blimey - those have to be the quietest roads in the world!!! Where is all the traffic? Interesting review with a decent amount of information about the car and a balanced list of pros and cons.

Finally someone who has the same opinion as me (owner of a 2015 JCW), this tyres (Pirelli P7 Runflat) kills the car... The feeling at high speed is very bad and unstable, and breaking at high speeds is a little bit creepy, the feeling is like you’re losing the control of the rear axle. Need to change my tyres as soon as possible...
I ordered mine this year. It's a restyling one. Just because I read some isues about the tires, I ordered mine with 17" wheels, and no runflat tyres. Sport suspension instead of dynamic one. It came with Pirrelli PZero. The car with this setup feels great!

Gee don't hate so much, the Mini is still an amazing car. And I'm sure it's a question of configuration how it feels.
It's true, just tyres to semi slicks with hard sidewalls, and install eibach sway bars and coilovers and car becomes another beast.
The problem is the glass roof as it shifts center of gravity ALOT and that rev counter in not in the middle but rather on the side.

Strange. I don't know if there was a problem with this precise car but mine is very tight, nimble, and doesn't move at all under braking. I have to say our highways are 120 km/h max, however. Maybe at 200 but when you never do that like in North America, seriously, this is the funniest and sharpest go-kart.
You said it moved to the right under braking. Did you check the tire pressure before going bananas at 200?

@@diegogregoir4524 nope, they do "pump" fake sound in the cabin from the underseat speakers and there is no way that you can remove that through the settings
231hp!? Wtf mine only has 163hp. I guess the extra 0.4 liters and turbocharger make a difference? I can’t wait to buy a new mini, but I’m only getting a manual I DONT DO AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. I hate autos, they take the fun out driving a car, and manual transmissions are almost always more reliable and easier to fix.

Great Video! Everything you say is exactly my talking! I rode the 2006 Cooper (r50) and still drive the (hated) JCW Coupé (r58) and that was for me, the last Mini that I like from beginning to end. The new generation Mini is visually a catastrophe from the outside. Whether Hatch, Clubman or Countryman. The interior is great and the bigger engines too. But the driving behavior, the artificial sound, the fart sounds from the exhaust and the exterior do not stand for what JCW stood before. It runs me down the back cold when I see a new mini on the street and that says it all! Mini lost me as a customer.

r53 was with the tritec supercharged engine.. r56 had the peugeot engine!
The R53 has a THP peugeot engine mate. The R56 has the N14 and N18. Get your facts right.

Hi thanks for the beautiful review, I have a 2018 one and yes as you said it is softer than the previous ones, more comfortable and bigger, initially I thought it will be the M version of mini, but it only has the looks.

The sensation issue in this car is due to the long wheelbase and your horrible tires. The combination removes any precision association. Minis have their wheels at the edges. This creates stability but if done wrong by tires or loose suspension, they feel worse than other cars with bad tires.
They're really expensive. So buy a 2nd hand one. Try find one that's 2-5 years old :)
I would never buy a used car. One like this would have been slashed a lot for a start. I dont want someone elses hand me down.

It’s not the “most sporty” version. The GP cars the most sporty and sit low. JCW is just their tuning house.
If i can remember the LED tachometer for the center was an option on previous Coopers

We have a Cooper S 5-door and it's the most fun car we had in a while. Only had BMWs before. I heard that Mini made some tuning to the setup, maybe it got better?

I prefer 595, it sounds better. I agree for sitting too high but with the money you save from the Mini JCW 595 you make it much better.
Daniele Tadini build quality in the fiat/Abarth is terrible compared to this. Still wickedly fun tho

Leuke video maar inhoudelijk niet al te best, je bent slecht geïnformeerd over een aantal zaken: de mistlichten zijn ook op de pre-facelift al achterwege gelaten vanwege de koeling, het logo bij de knipperlichten is niet nieuw, de led-ring rond het display (o.a. in te stellen als toerenteller) is niet nieuw en de benzinemeter is precies hetzelfde als in een 2017 of 2018 model. Grootste fout: de Michelin PS4S is alleen verkrijgbaar vanaf 19 inch. De JCW-velgen zijn 18 inch. Die band past er dus helemaal niet op. Beter onderzoek doen!

I have the base 2019 jcw and it feels more aggressive then the automatic with active suspension, I paid less and it’s way more aggressive/responsive then the fully loaded car
Does the 2019 JCW come with the JCW Tuning Kit w/exhaust flap system (with remote) or do you have to add it to the build. Or does it not come with it at all?

Nice review again Max. I’m sooo familair with that instability of the car when braking and also when lifting the trottle in cornering (not lift of oversteer). I drive a normal Cooper pre-facelift which is very nice but the instability is killing the fun and actually is frightnening sometimes. U really think thats it comes from the tires?
If you put some better tyres on it - it’s perfect.

You had the wrong tryres on it for a start and you had an automatic. Then you started moaning about the height. People around the world can't have it too low because of the roads.

Darrel Dupit I drove one with the optional jcw exhaust with valve (not road legal) and with the valves open it was insane, almost the reason to buy the car.
