Is it more fun than the STI or RS though? I think hydraulic steering on the STI would make it more fun to drive, and the handling dynamics and power of the RS gives it an edge as well.
I had a Mini Cooper 1.6 as a courtesy car for a month and now I own a Fiesta ST and a new Type R. I have to admit, the Mini was more fun, and it wasn't even the Cooper S or JCW. Not to knock the Type R of course, it is amazing and very rewarding to drive fast, but the Mini is the most fun car I've ever driven.

I think the JCW is the better of all the cars listed. It's unique like a Wrangler or Beetle and the interior styling is amazing. (Love the exhaust is awesome!)
Yes I agree with you. Say what you will about the Fiat Abarth and the 124 they are all unique cars that seem like they will all be going away. It seems like every one wants to look like each other driving bland trucks and SUVs. The way I see it no truck or SuV will ever have the major fun factor like the JCW.
I drove a 2017 Mini Cooper S recently and was blown away how much fun it was. Everything was designed around having fun and being quirky/silly. It had a gokart feel no matter what speed you were in, it had cool toggle switches like a cockpit, it had configurable ambient lighting all around the cabin, it had pops/crackles/burbles on the overrun and downshifts of the exhaust... I don't think you need a JCW to get the fun factor. Just buy a well optioned Cooper S!

Being a 2006 MCS owner and now a 2015 MCS owner, I’d suggest doing different options. The JCW exhaust can be fitted to a MCS along with the adaptive suspension and JCW tune. I’d honestly buy the MCS add the exhaust and an aftermarket tune. That’s what I’ve done and it will yield the same output or more than the JCW for much less cost. You do lose the rather cool aero kit for the bumpers and all the JCW badging, but still get all the fun! Did also want to say great video guys!
TheStraightPipes I can’t argue with that guys. The JCW tune and JCW exhaust are a dealer install if you’re concerned about voiding the warranty, it just costs a little more than aftermarket. Thanks for the reply! I feel like youtubers often say they read all the comments, but you guys wrote back! Super cool.
This is only half true, the tune for the mcs (which is a factory aftermarket part) bumps the power from 192hp to 211hp while the jcw is rated at 231hp. This makes sense though as you are paying more for the jcw so a bit of a „respectful power plus“ is alright. From the real world perspective the JCW is only marginally faster than a MCS with a factory tune, only at higher speeds the JCW starts to pull away.
1st in the challenge. I have this car with all options shown and it's a perfect blend of luxury and comfort , performance and handling and sound and symphony.
I had the opportunity to drive a 2002 or 2003 JCW way back when. Naturally before my car review days on RUclips. But it had one thing this one lacks... A manual transmission. I would like to see you guys get your hands on a MINI GP. If the JCW is like an Elise, then the GP is like the Exige -- minus the modest increase in power 😜
I have to say, I'm with Yuri on the ranking. Type-R is Type-R, I think it still holds 2nd place. By the way, you guys are hands down my favorite RUclips channel EVER! Thank you for all the excellent videos, keep it up! One thing though, I was curious about the curb weight of this mini? One thing you guys could touch on more in your videos is weight, and power to weight ratios and such. Thanks guys!
As a car enthausiast, firstly, it's my first time watching one your videos and I liked it. Keep up the good work. Second, I like how much you appreciate those exhoust pops. I dig that sound too. My Ibiza Cupra doesn't pop like that but grumbles subtly at low RPM. Whenever I hear that sound from outside, I just fall in love with it all over again. My girlfriend doesn't get why I go "awww" when I hear that. She thinks I am weird for that but I don't care. We car guys love it!
Love this! I’m in the GTA too and that’s basically my car. If I knew you guys were doing a review, I would have just let you borrow mine! ...and yes, it has the exhaust on it.
This car is awesome. So much torque and a decent amount of power for such a small light cars. I love things like this and the Cayman, gt86 all so tossable and just fast enough to be usable on the street. A gt3 with tons of hp is awesome too but so are all of them.
Great video! A lot of people told me don't get a Mini because they're unreliable, a car for girls, whatever. I didn't care. I had always wanted one and you only live once so I pulled the trigger last year and got a 2017 MCS (along with an extended warranty lol) and I've loved every second of it! It really does put a smile on your face. Thinking about having that JCW tuning exhaust put on it but it's so expensive ($1,740 vs Borla @ $560). PS - if you get a Mini, be prepared to have about a 30% chance of the drive-through clerk tell you how much they love your car.
To me, type R is number 1 because it is a Honda, and it will be more reliable and will have a better resale value. Ford has done an amazing job with this generation RS and that's why it is second on my list. JCW is a bit pricey, unpractical, and small for a daily driver plus it used to have a skeptic reliability history that's why I would rank it third if I had to be sensible. Comparing it to the Beetle that you guys reviewed a couple of days ago, this one looks much sporty and obviously performs better. However, you can't beat the retro style of that Beetle!
@@scottieray yeah in retrospect the mini is way more reliable lmao. b48/58 are some of the best modern engines and bmw manual or auto are great as well. now is the time to scoop up cars with these engines

Hi gentlemen iam from England,I I think you need your own car show on terrestrial tv as your gentle but informative and fun presenting is dam fine, many thanks
Paul
I really liked the text.
2:08 you guys totally read my mind!! I dont understand why car manufacturers get the manumatic shifter orientation wrong. Its the driving dynamics and momentum that comes into play here...
+E L yes exactly
You got it right🍁 Pop & Burble Mini🍁
You guys rule!make car reviews a complete riot!!!!Ba,ba,ba,ba,ba!!!!!Your the best keep it coming
I have this car with this exhaust and I love it!
You guyz are just awsome...I have seen many JCW videos...but yours is soo fantastic.... I have seen this more than 10 times
JCW for me except, damn I need four doors so Focus RS except those engine have head gasket problems, so back to Mini and sorry about tight back seats kids
Uh huh, uh huh just get the 4 door JCW, problem solved!
Uh huh, uh huh
Focus rs was fitted with the wrong cylinder head
They've long since fixed it
Focus rs, idgaf
@@stillnottellingyoumyname8193 debatable
They have the JCW country man
4 door believe AWD too
@@violater7026 the countryman is a disgusting abomination though.
Best "pop, pop, pop" review yet. "Pop, pop, pop" JCW is a solid third, behind the RS and Type R.
+Dave Ortiz realistically and practically, yeah. But the Mini will always put more smiles on my face
The entertainment screen gives me OG XBox vibes
ZROSTARS I see that!!
Maybe you can softmod the Mini using Splintercell.
Yes! That's what it is!!! Couldn't remember what it reminded me of.
i came here directly from the beetle review and "PIANO BLACK" is officially iconic. even the way he says it is funny
I`d pick the mini cooper John cooper works.
Still love this video. Watched it soooo many times. Even after I got my JCW pro exhaust fitted.
Def drop the Sti, and what’s stopping you from just adding the exhaust and skip the other options?
I'm looking at buying a mini cooper, thanks for all your reviews!
I would like to see you guys get your hands on a MINI GP. If the JCW is like an Elise, then the GP is like the Exige -- minus the modest increase in power 😜
+Evolq that would be fun
The GP2 is the ultimate thrill!!! I have one!
Dude ima sell my kidneys for that exhaust
UK price wasn't to bad. I got it new from. BMW mini for £1200 fitted. Worth every penny and designed by Akrapovic.
And sorry for my English. Not a native speaker.
Now every time I hear an exhaust go pop pop pop, I expect to see the words “pop pop pop” come out of the pipes lol
Love this! I’m in the GTA too and that’s basically my car. If I knew you guys were doing a review, I would have just let you borrow mine! ...and yes, it has the exhaust on it.
Quite sad that I discovered this absolutely amazing channel just now
+Ridwan Mahbub don't worry, plenty of older videos for you to catch up on and new ones coming every week
Great review, you guys are enjoying this so much that it is infectious.
oohh I love mini, Thanks for awesome video dude
JCW - I own one here in Scotland. Absolutely ace car in every respect. I do agree that options list can make it expensive - its worth it though.
JCW badge count! Does it have more or less than the Focus RS?
+harrismi7 I believe it has more!
JCW has 10 on the exterior
Make that 12 , forgot about front callipers
This car is awesome. So much torque and a decent amount of power for such a small light cars. I love things like this and the Cayman, gt86 all so tossable and just fast enough to be usable on the street. A gt3 with tons of hp is awesome too but so are all of them.
Where are you driving @8:03?
ClichÉ CORNERRRRR
BrandonRolfe15 wait like Oakville Ontario??
Deeejayyy Anatado they have said they are Canadian a number of times.
You guys are really awesome! I love your videos, they're so nice, so cheerful, excellent cinematography. Keep up the great work :D
Hahahaha "I see a guy with his window down..."
Now I miss my straight piped 335i.
PS - if you get a Mini, be prepared to have about a 30% chance of the drive-through clerk tell you how much they love your car.
i wish there is a toyota version of mini....very reliable and inexpensive LOL
I wish the new Yaris GRMN with the supercharged 1.8 wasn’t such a limited production, and was in the US and Canada.
i wish there was a mini version of the Mini... (you know like the old Mini)
dunhillsupramk3 If it were any smaller, they couldn’t POSSIBLY justify the price tag. It therefore wouldn’t be a premium small car.
it is now!
in regards to looks, Toyota Pixis Joy comes pretty close.
Absolutely loved this vid, the car, the commentary, the editing, best one yet. Lol'd at the Ken Block and exhaust popping bits
+Vick Lagina sweeeet
To me, type R is number 1 because it is a Honda, and it will be more reliable and will have a better resale value. Ford has done an amazing job with this generation RS and that's why it is second on my list. JCW is a bit pricey, unpractical, and small for a daily driver plus it used to have a skeptic reliability history that's why I would rank it third if I had to be sensible.
Comparing it to the Beetle that you guys reviewed a couple of days ago, this one looks much sporty and obviously performs better. However, you can't beat the retro style of that Beetle!
Nabil Matar Type-R is experiencing transmission and cooling issues. Maybe the next model year will be better.
@@scottieray yeah in retrospect the mini is way more reliable lmao. b48/58 are some of the best modern engines and bmw manual or auto are great as well. now is the time to scoop up cars with these engines
Going to have to go with the Mini Cooper JCW because that's what I drive!
1)type r
2)JCW
3)focus RS
4) Sti
i hope my type r can sound like this !
That intro deserves a like and a half!
Gonna have to go with the Civic Type R first
Make Ontario proud! Great channel, fun reviews and great editing... well done guys!
