BMW guy. Just sold my 20 M2 Comp for a 23 2 door JCW hardtop. Absolutely loving it. I missed owning a small hatch and it being a BMW made it perfect for me. Easy fix for the ride harshness is stick with the 17” wheel and 45 tire. Mine rides softer than my M2C not harsh ride at all and still as much fun to drive as my M2 was

      JCW slow as balls tho

    • @ollyvoxx
      @ollyvoxx 5 месяцев назад

@@squidwardshouse67 as someone who's owned an M2 comp and currently drives a manual CT4 Blackwing & ALSO owns a manual '22 JCW 2 door hardtop... In many ways I prefer the JCW.
When you daily a car that has a max speed of 190 and a 0-60 of 4 seconds w/472hp, you realize that speed, power... It's nice, but I'm (hypothetically) already breaking the law with 3 more gears to go if I'm pushing the car. I literally NEVER get to use the car to it's fullest.
The JCW tho, I can wring the crap out of it, get turbo flutter, rorty exhaust noise, crisp shifts, even some oversteer once you tighten the suspension. It's no RWD monster like the Blackwing or it's contemporaries, but that's not the point.
Its a little stupid, and that's why I love it.
If you want 90% of the fun of a Miata, but with more practicality, a 2 door JCW hardtop is the best idea.
Exciting, quick (not fast), available with a manual, and has at least a modicum of practicality. The 2 door HARDTOP JCW is a big win in my book.

When I bought the BRZ, I almost bought a Miata, but I didn't like the way the interior was laid out (read cup holders) and hubs was cramped. To do it right: get the normal hatch - which is 150kg lighter, handles better, has a more usable boot and folddown back seats (a dishwasher? No problem.), does 6.1 to 60, and 246 top speed.
It's the current B48 4 cyl. petrol used in all BMW's, the Toyoata Aisin 8 speed used in all fwd BMW's, it's proper build quality&materials - so it's worth it (compared to the VW's, Hyundai's, also the current - which are....well...soul-less, boring, budget cars).
Drive it on alpine or wild twisty roads - and watch the usual 1600kg+ "sporty" cars trying. Aka failing.....
Those straight line, intersection, straight line - US kind of streets, are definitely not, what a Mini is made for.
If you have the adaptive damping and face bad roads - configure it properly, or drive in mid mode.
In that mid mode, the hatch is around as stiff as my BMW 125d with M adaptive Suspension in Sport+.
Not Mercedes S class comfort - but liveable.
One i agree with: the HUD with the plex shield - is between ok and pointless - that's why i didnt spec it.
So in all honesty: perfect car for cornering, fun, style, character, quality - and the occasional 155mph Autobahn run - but you drive it on the wrong continent....

Th $600 suspension pkg you have on this is the sport suspension. That's why it's rough and tramlining. With the standard suspension, it's much more comfortable.

As I’m sure the two of you already know, the harshness of the ride you’re experiencing with this particular car, is in fact because it is a convertible. Additional enhancements made to the strength and structural rigidity of the chassis are necessary to compensate for the lack of a solid roof. Unfortunately, it’s an inherent characteristic of all BMW built convertibles as far back as the mid 80’s. A non convertible, JCW equipped version of the same car does still have a firm suspension feel, but at least the risk of breaking a tooth over rough roads surfaces is greatly reduced 🤭🤕

I have an F56 and the ride seems much softer than older mini coopers and my other high end sportscars I have owned.

Yes. Both with soft tires, my 2006 S was harsher than the 22 JCW i just test drove in Sport mode and 18” on bad roads

These days, you'd be crazy to get a Mini over a Jaguar F-Type. Especially at that price.

Thing is jaguar is made by Renault now which is extremely suckish and horrible. Their reliability is extremely low. Mini also sucks but at least it's made by BMW which is relatively reliable (emphasis on "relatively"). Then again if someone is rich enough to afford either of them, they probably don't care too much to make informed decisions.

Judging from what you guys are saying about the suspension I don’t think you had the adaptive dampers on that car… It might’ve been the JCW‘s sport dampers … But the adapter dampers are next level for when you want comfort on the standard drive and sportiness on demand

My first car was an 06' Mini Cooper S with the supercharger and it had a Magnaflow exhaust system. Sad to say I only had it for a few months because the car had nonstop problems. The thing was so much fun to drive and I wish I would've kept it along with my current car, which is a 2019 Chevy Sonic RS. Hopefully I can purchase another one in the future and have it last for a long time.

I feel like the mini is best as a used car because at about 5 years old they are depreciated to a rather reasonable price. I recently bought a non s 2016 and coming from a 2014 mazda 3 I absolutely love the mini. It's not fast in a straight line but it's fast enough to feel safe. It really excels at taking corners and being a fairly comfortable place to be in. The main features it has over the Mazda 3 are, rain sensing wipers, auto headlights, extremely good handling, and a seating position that makes it easy to get in and out of while wearing a dress. As a used car the Mazda 3 is the same as the mini in that it's a little pricy as a new car but on the used market it's pretty reasonable and I think it's the best alternative to the mini.

Minis are fun af but in the end they have me looking for a vehicle with similar characteristics but more HP, like a 718.
Rear view visibility is bad with the top down but I find the car is so small you can see behind it pretty well with the wing mirrors.
