Perfect "Mitch slap" reaction when you first heard Mitch's high voice. Mitch, Scott, the taller blonde guy, and Kirstin have all been friends since middle school and have sang together since they were kids. Our man Avi, the bass with the beard (who has left the group) also joined the guys from Home Free on Ring of Fire and also made at least one cameo in a HF video. The acapella world really does have a lot of friendships. I would recommend Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone) as the next Pentatonix reaction.

👉👉@@Okayrick PENTATONIX is the most recognized Acapella group you'll know!!.
They have made history by being the only Acapella group to win Grammys (3 Grammys and one nomination this year), among MANY MANY Awards and recognition by big names in the music industry.
And recently received a STAR on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. Again making history.
They are in their late 20s to early 30s They have been together as a group for over 10 years.
The members are in singing order:
Scott (tall blonde) sings baritone, covers bass when the bass has a singing lead. Hits high falsettos and is extremely soulful.
Avi (Ah-vee) sings bass/basso profundo, baritone, overtone (Avi left the group on good terms in late 2017. He now has a solo career.)
Kirstin Maldonado (Kirstie rhymes with thirsty) sings mezzo soprano, alto (she changes her look A LOT DON'T GET CONFUSED IT'S ALWAYS Kirstie).
Mitch - sings counter tenor, tenor.
(He ALSO changes his look A LOT don't get confused it's ALWAYS Mitch).
      Kevin (K.O) beatboxer, tenor cello.
......NOT in this video, Matt sings bass, baritone (replaced Avi in late 2017.

They have a vast catalogue of over 200 songs both originals and covers that Pentaholics also call upgrades. They have been together more than a decade and have three Grammys.
Their music is as diverse as they are and as diverse as their fans. I have seen commenters older than 90 saying they are fans.
They can sing any style, any genre. Their three Grammys are for singing a medley of Daft Punk songs (EDM), singing a classical song with no words (a song with no words sung by a band with no instruments), and for singing a song with Dolly Parton (country). They sing mostly Pop and Christmas, but sing religious songs, reggae, rock, EDM, country, swing, classical, folk, rap, Broadway tunes, and many other types that I can't think of right now. They have a few songs that they sing different genres in the same song.
Don't be afraid to react to Christmas songs any time of the year. To Pentaholics it's Christmas everyday and especially when we hear their Christmas songs.

What a perfect song to introduce you to Pentatonix with breand new headphones. Home Free actully owe a little bit of their success to Pentatonix. They won the Sing Off the season after Pentatonix. PTX actually coached them a little bit on one of their performances on the show. Pentatnix does more pop songs and Home Free is more country based. The group has been together for over a decade now, and you have a decade of music to enjoy. The only change they have had was when Avi, their bass left the group on good terms in 2017. The grueling pace was just too hard for him, and he missed his family too much. Their "new" bass Matt, is PHENOMENAL. And you'll adore him. Two of the members are LGBTQ+, two are Black, and Kirstie the woman is Latina. If you want to chance getting your heat ripped right out of your chest, listen to their cover of Imagine by John Lennon. It is incredibly powerful.

  • @RonHeartsMe
    @RonHeartsMe Год назад +25

Glad you liked the group and there’s plenty more music to check out from them! And they’re definitely a diverse group - two gay men, two straight black Christian men (when Matt joined as of 2017), a Latina, a former member who is Jewish (the bass in this video). They’re also THE a capella group. Three Grammy Awards, a star on the walk of fame, several #1 albums, tons of world tours…
My recommendation is Imagine and Sound of Silence (featuring their new bass Matt who joined the group in 2017 after Avi left - the group has stayed the same besides the one member change).

    Pentatonix
They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that.
    The founding members are:-
    Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead);

Kirstin "Kirstie" (Rhymes with "Thirsty") Maldonado (the only female member, natural mezzo soprano, but can go down to low alto and as high as upper soprano, also can sing in whistle notes that are off the scale); For a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”.
    Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease);
Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair), true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range; and
Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world−class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre−med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese).
Kirstie, Scott & Mitch grew up together in Arlington, Texas, and began performing together as children in local youth musical theater. They ended up in high school together and performed in the choir. While there, they formed an a cappella group called The Trio which had several performance videos go viral on RUclips, most notably a cover of Lady Gaga′s "Telephone". The three of them are best friends and consider themselves to be almost siblings.
Scott & Kirstie (who were a class year ahead of Mitch) both graduated high school in 2010 and went their separate ways to different colleges, Scott at USC and Kirstie at Oklahoma.
While at USC, Scott joined a USC−based a cappella group called the SoCal VoCals, where he met alumnus Ben Bram, who was now an arranger and vocal coach for the NBC TV show The Sing Off, an a cappella competition show. Ben convinced Scott to get The Trio to audition for the show. The three reunited (Mitch had to skip high school graduation ceremonies to go) in Los Angeles for the audition.
They found out that the rules had changed, so they needed at least five members to audition. Ben put them together with Avi (a native of Visalia, California), who he knew from Avi′s performing days at Mount San Antonio College in California. They found Kevin (from Kentucky) through one of his RUclips videos that had gone viral featuring him playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time, a talent that Kevin coined as "Cello−Boxing".
Kevin arrived in Los Angeles literally the day before the audition! Scott came up with the name "Pentatonix" after the pentatonic scale. They performed a re−arrangement of "The Telephone" for the audition and passed, despite having been together as a five−piece group for less that 24 hours!
They won The Sing Off that season (all of the performances are available on RUclips), in which they received a substantial cash prize AND a record contract with Epic Records. They pooled their prize winnings together and all moved to Los Angeles, and all got apartments right next door to each other in the same building.
But just a week later, Epic dropped them because the marketing people didn′t think an a cappella group could sell records.
Instead of giving up, they were determined and began recording their own songs on RUclips, hiring Ben Bram as their producer and arranger. These usually consisted of the five of them sitting on a couch and performing cover songs live.
Several of the videos went viral, and Sony (the parent company of Epic) decided to give them another chance by placing them on one of their smaller labels, Madison Gate. They released two secular EPs and one Christmas EP on Madison Gate, all of which were strong sellers.
But when their cove r of a medley of songs by Daft Punk not only went super−viral, but also won them their first Grammy, they were promoted all the way up to RCA Records, Sony′s top label.
They began writing and producing their own songs in addition to their covers, began putting out a Christmas album just about annually (which has become their best−selling genre), and have had multi−platinum album sales, sold−out world tours, and have won two additional Grammys.
Avi began getting burned out with all of the touring and heavy recording schedule, was suffering from anxiety and personal problems, and learned that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017. He announced he was departing from the group and taking some time away from the music industry.
Matt Sallee (from Baltimore) joined them in September 2017. He did only become official when they renewed their RCA contract in February 2018, but he recorded with them in September as a featured artist and went on their Christmas tour as a featured artist, as well. When he attended the audition for the group, he had already mastered the Bass part for most if not all their past catalogue. He was successful and has proved that he fits in well with the group.
If you think there have been other changes to the line up - look again. This is the ONLY change. Kirstie and Mitch are like chameleons and change looks frequently.
After a year away from music, Avi has now returned as a phenomenal solo artist in the Folk/Americana/Roots genre.
Ben Bram has been in charge of their production, including arranging and directing from the beginning. He is often referred to as the sixth member. Scott and Kevin are major players in the arrangements, but every member contributes. good watch is "The Recording of Evergreen" where a camera was invited into the studio for the second week of recording/
Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work.
Ed Boyer who mixes everything of theirs (even the HWB Livestream) is the one who pulled Ben Bram into the sing off in the first place.
They were nominated for a 4th Grammy for their album Evergreen, but didn't win.
Kirstie became a new mum which caused a pause in touring after their Evergreen Christmas tour 2021. Mid March 2023 Kirstie has announced that she is engaged to Ben Hausdorff, their videographer. No dates YET!
They have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame installed in February 2023. They are the only a capella group with a star!
Things you need to know because if you get these wrong Pentaholics will come after you with pitch forks and torches! Ha Ha!!
1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. One exception is the 90's Dance Medley where Cher used autotune as an effect - so they had to.
2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the official video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen. In the 2022 Christmas album, there are some instruments not featured throughout the album.
3- They never release something on video they can’t reproduce with the exact same quality live on-stage.

Welcome to Pentatonix! Nice earbuds!! I'm so glad you really liked Hallelujah. It's a great introduction to this group because everyone gets to sing a verse, except Kevin Olusola, the beatboxer. Kevin has a really sweet tenor and does harmonize with the group when he's not actively beatboxing. PTX ( Pentatonix) is outstanding in their field of acapella. They've won 3 Grammys and have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They're 200+ catalog of songs are just as diverse as the members are....some covers and some originals of current pop songs to Golden oldies.
I see many commenters have mentioned that you should do Imagine next. I agree with them. It's another great iconic song and PTX have done their thing and made it special.

It’s almost impossible to recommend what you should do next because their 200+ covers and originals are all 🔥🤯. New subscriber, here for all the Pentatonix you choose to listen to. They do these big, luscious songs so well, like Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King, Amazing Grace and Prayers for This World. They can also go way introspective, with Mad World, Say Something and, as others have mentioned, John Lennon’s Imagine. They have won Grammies for their Daft Punk medley, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies and their duet with Dolly Parton on Jolene. Really good originals include Sing, Coffee in Bed and Anchor. For flat-out fun, try their ‘90s Dance Medley, Come Along and Problem. There’s so much to discover, any title that catches your eye will be good. Welcome aboard, I enjoyed your first reaction very much. Peace from Ohio …

Great reaction and welcome to Pentatonix, where all of their energy and emotions are uplifting and supportive. The Trio grew up together as Community Arts Theater kids which is why they have stage presence during their worldwide tour. They started in Singapore and there is an hour and half concert on RUclips from Tokyo, Japan a couple of weeks ago.
PTX is the leader but don't worry because the band is encouraging to Home Free and other groups. Singing without instruments is difficult, but PTX won their second Grammy for "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" a song with no words performed by a band without instruments. Pentaholics and Home Fries will find your channel.
Hallelujah is often the first song people listen to and you got Mitch Slapped good. We watch your eyes and facial expressions when Mitch starts to sing.
They are 11+ years Strong with Multiple Christmas albums and their own original songs and albums. Many will recommend their Daft Punk Medley that won their first Grammy. Since you are Strong on diversity, Imagine will tell you all you need to know. Just watch for their "Wall of Sound" and continue through the brief break. Kevin sings instead of his usual Celloboxing. The end says it all.

As many already said, PTX Imagine would be a great one to do next, because the beatboxer, Kevin Olusola, also gets to sing a verse in that one. Also, you might want to check out their Evolution of Michael Jackson and a mashup they did New Rules x Are You That Somebody. In New Rules, you'll notice a new bass singer, Matt Sallee, replacing the guy in this one with the beanie and beard, Avi Kaplan. PTX formed in 2011, and Matt replacing Avi is the only change in singers since then.

As I say to every new listener, welcome aboard the SS PTX. There are many ports of call on the journey. I highly recommend imagine, dance of the sugar plum fairy and daft punk. The last two they won grammys for. They have a third with a collaboration with dolly parton. They also gained prominence again when they sang the national anthem at the college Football championship. Diversity is one of their strongest points. Not just in race but also religion and sexual preference. Yet no matter how diverse after all these years together (except one replacement of bass vocalist) they are more than a group, they are a family. That's their magic. Each is more than capable of a stellar solo career, but they CHOOSE to sing together because they're strength is each other. Wouldn't the world be better if we could learn this lesson of acceptance and the importance of individuality but strength in unity.

For a show of diversity and commonality check out their version of "Imagine" where they show you what they share and how they are different, ending with who they truly are. It will speak to your heart...

Welcome to the purest form of harmonious singing without musical instrument accompaniment. It's called a cappela ('of the chapel') .I went to their concert in Melbourne, Australia last Sunday night. Another USA group is Voice Play. Australia has a group called Idea of North. And for the forerunners of modern a cappela check out The Flying Pickets from the United Kingdom.

PTX are a diverse group. Although on the face of it there are 4 white singers, two are gay men, one is Jewish and the woman is a Latina. But, none of that matters. What they are, is talented. This is a fabulous rendition of a classic song of lost love by a Jewish Buddhist. We all feel the same!
