Why the Mandalorians Don't Move Off of the Planet of the Dinosaurs

- Why do the Mandalorians live on such a dangerous planet? Why don’t they just move? I’ve seen a lot of jokes about that point. I even made one in my review. Why live on the Planet of the Dinosaurs if they keep eating your people?? Well, the Armorer did say way back in season one that when you walk the way of the Mandalore, you are both hunter and prey. I could see someone like her thinking it was a good thing that they live under constant threat of just straight up being eaten. I think she’s taken it too far, but I also think it’s ridiculous to leave your helmets on all the time. But basically, I think the Children of the Watch see the struggle to survive under harsh conditions as part of their way of life.

I'd also say it's one hell of a way to hide from others who don't dare to live or adventure into their area.
It's also strategic since no one would think no sane person would actually set camp there.
Luckily the Mandalorins have madness to spare
Also they don't have a ship lol
Mandalorians in Legends seemed to draw a lot of inspiration from Dune where the Fremen and Sardukar were near unbeatable because they were molded by harsh conditions.
100%. From the trials by combat for leadership of the sietch, to the summoning of the great worm to become a "real" member. I sat on dune for a long time. My first go around with it was the sci-fi mini series back in high school still a favorite of mine despite the low budget production.
“When one chooses this life, you are both hunter and prey” this line really highlights that even though they’re formidable warriors, they’re not untouchable. They constantly face danger that will either break them or test and strengthen them.
Good point. Living there will make you strong - if you make it. This is the way.
I see it more so that the planet is remote and unsettled. No one can find you if you are off the beaten path, no one can leak your location if no one is there. The world being hostile also keeps your people on their toes while being forced to honing their skills. The location a blessing and a curse.
Don't forget that Mandalore was like this planet before thousand years of wars killed the planet. So coming to this planet is also about returning to their roots.
It's pretty on brand for mandalorians tbh. They are tested and hardened by the harsh planet and it acts as security deterring most outside threats from even looking there. It's the same reason Mandalore the Preserver rebuilt the mandalorians on Duxun in Kotor 2.
Also, think back to KOTOR II in Legends. Canderous Ordo, the new Mandalore, had his people living on the very dangerous moon of Onderon where pretty much everything was trying to kill you. They believed the constant struggle for survival weeded out the weak and made everyone else stronger. Yeah, it's Legends now, but I think it still fits The Way of the Mandalore for The Children of the Watch.
And as others have pointed out already, no one's likely to come looking for them, because it would be crazy for anyone to live there.
Also, compare them to the Tusken Raiders. They live in a dangerous desert environment by choice, too, being eaten by krayt dragons, Harryhausen monsters, probably sarlaacs and god knows what else, eeking out an existence. They do it because it's their way, their culture, their religion, their tie to their past.
Dxun
@@olmage0799 Yes, Dxun. I couldn't recall off-hand the name of the moon of Onderon as I was typing. Cheers!
Probably up to interpretation. But maybe under constant threat keeps them alert and trained, no one would expect or want to go to a dangerous planet to hunt the COTW, or it’s the only place they could find
Or when they inevitably liberate Navarro from Gorian Shards pirates like we have seen in the trailers, the Armorer could move the Covert back to Navarro as if they can sort out Griefs pirate problem i’m sure he will welcome them back with open arms
Watch the Armorer becomes the sheriff to protect her people more in the open and allow Din and Bo lead whoever follow them back to Mandolore
@gremblorthesackgoblin7953 Yeah or even Paz would make a good sheriff too! That would be cool
Welcoming a militia is a double edged sword.
This was totally on the mark 😂
@@chaorikitki8334 couldn’t quite believe it myself when it actually happened
I just realized something.
So, we see a Mandalorian adult get eaten in episode 1, but then Din swoops in to save the day and kill the turtle beast.
We see that Ragnar was able to survive being eaten and then regurgitated, likely surviving for a full day inside the Raptor..
So that Nameless Mandalorian adult, do you guys think THEY survived? Like, once the turtle beast was killed, did they just crawl out of its mouth or have someone cut them out??
Or perhaps did Din’s Torpedos somehow harm that eaten Mando that was inside??
Well Boba Fett survived the Sarlacc and even if the Mando eaten by the Turtle had no Bescar armor he is very likely alive.
One might check if he appears amobg the Mandos again.
I guess being eaten is star wars its not a big threat lol😂
I answered the question with because they're mandalorians.
After clicking in to this, it took me a few seconds to recognize that Damon voice. Great Damon content always.
Safer to live among wild beast than humans and humanoids
“Either they yield or we die man, but we ain’t running away from this rock”
For security reasons. Not only will you have to fight the mandalorian’s but you’ll also have to survive the dangers of the planet.
Ask to australians.... it will be faster
This is the way😂
This is the way
or they hide on a hell planet no one would ever want to go to.
By the looks of it, there were only two Mandos actually caught by it awsell, it's not like we saw half a dozen helmets just rolling around.
Makes you wonder how they of all sects managed to survive
I mentioned that it's crazy these guys live on this planet to my dad and he mentioned that nobody's going to want to come to this planet because they know there's these big monsters down there, so the Mandalorians are relatively safe. I don't know, I mean, Mandalorians aren't exactly being hunted, but I suppose there's some logic to it since these guys can fight off these creatures... I guess. I don't know still seems pretty insane.
They aren't being hunted but they don't want anybody to know where they are or how many people are there.
Not just that, they can pretty much sleep well knowing that no ambushes are gonna happen to them.
If u want to stay hidden living on a insane planet with dinosaurs is a pretty good way , and what a way to hone your combat skills when ur fighting massive insanely dangerous beasts all the time lol
It's like the Egyptians, they use their environment as a natural barrier.
Ben solo in 65
Because they’re not afraid, they have balls.
So in the old kights of the old republic they would talk about how Mandalore was a dangerous place with a constant threat to their safety and to them this was a challenge for the strongest to succeed.
This how u make warriors..THIS IS THE WAY
Sees the piles of children bones and helmets(yeah good choice) when Paz said “they always get away” or something around that I was like dam, wonder how many kids got ate
They’re definitely not going to lose their skills over time while hiding on that planet, they basically have to constantly train and stay vigilant, which keeps their skills sharpened for when they’ll be needed
Lol yeah they coulda just ran
Mandalore itself also has a good selection of giant monsters. I figured they chose that planet because the danger is reminiscent of their history on mandalore
They just moved a couple hours ago Cozy new spot on negonu out of the sewers And into the light
i mean, the planet mandolore is KNOWN for having a crap load of giant dinosaurs
"You went to the beach with your brother what happened where is he?"
"Eaten.."
"Ohhhh right..what would you like for lunch?
Word 👍
I assumed it was to stay out of the way of more.. sentient threats.
I assumed it was a deterrent to anyone finding them. No one else would want to come to that area because it’s so dangerous.
Also, and I don't think I can stress this enough, _dinosaurs._
I'd live there, too.
They've very clearly tried multiple planets. They seem to quickly move on from, or maybe get run off of civilized worlds.
I can see the Mandalorians finding a world that is uninhabited due to dangerous wildlife, and thinking it's a great idea to settle there. They're the galaxy's greatest hunters, after all.
They just have yet to accept that this was a terrible mistake.
It’s not the struggle to survive, but they settled on a planet where they know their predators and too much for their weapon to handle.
I'd argue using the principle of Occam's Razor and say that they simply have no better place to go.
Time to bring in the classic dune quote....hard world breeds hard men
That's what I assumed. They wanna fight big beasts
I always just took it as they live and harsh areas that are hard to get to so they don't raided by the empire since no one would think to check there .
Constant danger and death ensure that the strongest and fastest survive. Like the catchan jungle fighters
Living in paradise makes you weak. Living inside the arctic circle makes you a viking.
🤘🧙♂️🤘
I love the armorer
Also i think it would be a great hiding place and a natural defence in a way
I mean who would tried to hunt a mandalorian on a dinasour planet
Keeps them strong
They're like Spartans essentially. Their culture is oriented around war. Sink or swim.
Kat from Halo didn't keep her helmet on and was head shot
Better question: where are the Mandolorian ships??? They had to have at least one, right?!
yeah i came to that conclusion as well
Did you forget that the mandalorians in legend literly train there people on the most dangerous planet like duxun
The Mandelorians are right. It’s all about the struggle. The alternative is Wall-E
always figured it was a sort of "survival of the fittest" reason, that...and also less likely hood of getting off world visitors because of the wildlife
They should go back to Navaro
Think at the start of Season 2 when Din gets assaulted by gangsters trying to get his armour. Their leader straight up says that Mandalorians are being hunted and poached for their beskar as if they were an elephant killed for its tusks. So they have to hide in increasingly more dangerous places that no one else would risk
I mean, not all mandalorians lived in such unsafe conditions
If you can survive the worst of the worst. Then everything else seems easy
Also probably because noone would go to mandalore since it's so dangerous. meaning they're probably rarely attacked by outsiders
wow disney….. tatooine with water
My question is where are they parking their spaceships?
Think its because no one is crazy enough to go there more likely
Struggle breeds strength.
People who suffer from first world problems will not understand that.
As I’ve heard and understood, the flying creature is a shriek-hawk, allegedly a predator native to Mandalore. So maybe they’re imported???
But in all honesty I’d take the stance that the Children of the Watch just chose to avoid populated planets b/c of their struggles on Nevarro. So I’d say either (a) they only recently arrived at the planet, (b) these are the first serious incidents that have occurred or (c) they’ve decided that the risk is worth whatever perceived benefits there are.
Their on Concordia because it’s one of the moons of mandalore
I HAVE A QUESTION, HOW DO THEY EAT? My guess is they eat alone so they can remove their helmet
They’re also zealots who went nuts after the purge, kind of annoying to be honest considering mandalorians never thought this way I don’t think. Even ancient mandalorians to my knowledge at least
It so weird actually star wars story, turn to jurrasic park😂
I wouldn't call the armored crocodile a dinosaur. more of a distant relative. the bird though, THAT'S a dinosaur
No I agree with this take. If anything I think that's a normal thing
So....the Mandalorians lived in Florida?
I also wondered that. Why are thy living in Planet Australia?
It's because no one else will come there
Very Fremen
It’s a thing in Mandalorian culture that comes all the way down from the Taung. War IS life. War is heaven, war is worship, war is the beginning and the end for a Mandalorian. Although they’ve largely shed the religious overtones they once wore proudly, they didn’t forget the culture they adopted when they drove the Taung off Coruscant and into extinction.
And then there’s the fact that it’s tradition for Mandos to live on dinosaur infested planets. That skull mark they all wear? That’s from a Mythosaur, a dinosaur that could get so large it could devour cities. The Mythosaur was the first species they found on the planet Mandalore, and they tamed them, hunted them, mythicized them and drove them into extinction. There are no dinosaurs on Mandalore anymore.
Give it a few decades, and this planet won’t have any dinosaurs on it either.
(And this isn’t even getting into crazier stuff like the pterodactyls on Dxun that fly between Dxun and one of its moons when their atmospheres cross which made the Mandos decide this was also a good place to set up shop. TLDR, Mandos love Dinos.)
People coming up with excuses for poor writing. If they wanted to portray them as some legendary warriors then show it. For example, have them be consistent in their fighting skills and fight iq. Who here will pull a gun to shoot at a plane with hostage? No one, right? Well, mando would. lol
The simplest answer is Its the perfect place to hide
So they can always stay alert and dangerous keep you on your toes you guys don’t know what it is to be a warrior
Kid’s helmet looks like the one used in lego sets. It’s just, so offputting. The visor is far too wide for me.
Showing the kind of fear that running from your own planet would present doesn’t seem very Mandolorian.
It’d be like asking the Spartans “Greece is full of danger with enemies all around - why not leave and go to Tunisia?” Because Greece is their home, their identity, and they won’t be forced out by a manageable problem.
Y’all really think the empire wants to deal with dinosaurs? It’s safer then any core/ rim world for them
Like clan Ordo asking me to spin kick a Zakkeg in the jungle. It’s just a cultural thing.
No they are on that planet because they are on the run and regrouping. Remember Moth Gideon’s group attacked them and killed a lot of them .
Just about everywhere has predators, to be fair. Planets without major predators are also usually inhospitable. I haven’t seen many planets yet without something that can eat you. Living on the edge where they are is a bit much, but I don’t think it is a religious issue so much as a practical one. It’s only been a fairly recent thing to live in places with no major predators and that’s because we’ve killed them all off (and why so many tourists don’t understand how dangerous wild animals are).
They are called “extremists” for a reason.
This is exactly what they want though, they want a challenge. That’s the whole point of the creed. Down to even fighting Jedi, they acknowledge they’re masochistic as hell and want this stuff.
The concept of every day, being a fight, is literal to them.
kinda like folks that choose to live in Chicago
Duxun kotor 2 they were on the jungle moon
Or training
Honestly, it just portrays them as idiots
Yup this season has made me dislike mandalorians more and more. They’re not the cool badass hunters anymore they’re morons
Could have really played up the difference between Lizzo's domed leisure world and the Mandos in a longer story arc. Arguing that constant struggle makes for a broken people. but constant luxury doesn't make for a good society.
Soooo, Paz Vizla has a son. How did he met the mom? Did he say her Pauldrons made her look hot?..."My armor looks so shiny when I look at your eyes...clean vizors turn me on"
Do they keep the helmets on when...yeah, I need to know this things.
I think it's ridicule that all space movies have vastly different planets with way different environments and species, yet they all have the same gravity as Earth??? Like all of them!!! Except John Carter.
Because to be mandalorian means to challenge yourself and to seek hardship. Mandalorians are a warrior culture that believe to fight and wage war is to be divine - easy times make soft men and this leads to stagnation - which to mandalorains is sin - therefore they must constanly challenge themselves - they must fight - they must improve - they must do this to not only survive but to thrive as mando'ade.
Yeah, it may be a part of their culture or training but I think the main practical reason is because they know they can fight the dragons.
Their enemies may not. If their enemies want to avoid the dragon, the mandolorians won’t be found.
