I watched an hour lecture from my professor but It didn't help. I found this is the best video to understand briefly about the server. Thank you so much.
Ok, so all acknowledged; you shouldn't be running anything on one machine, even if it is a server. So then, what about running 3 regular desktops on a Kubernetes cluster? With 2 being the master nodes? In that scenario, three 2k desktops would be clustered and take on what one 7k server system is supposed to be doing. If a node fails, you replace the node, and since you have 2 master nodes, if one of them dies, the other continues the execution of the containers. Also, for redundancy, don't you need multiple locations even if you buy a server? You can control the hardware but not the internet if a hub goes down or a line gets iced over and drops in your area. This is why I was all about production-grade servers until containerization and orchestration came along. Now I can have 3 desktop computers with new intel or AMD 8 processors running containers with backups, and when one desktop fails, It can be junked or sent out for repairs, and a new one or temp one can be added to the cluster. 100% that one server will last longer, but it will be less cost-effective or redundant than buying 3 good desktops with a 5-year warranty running on a cluster. Once a year, I switch out an old computer for a new one, get the old one refurbed, and put it in a different backup location. as part of a new cluster. Now, if something fails, the others run; I have multiple locations, and unless you're doing google level traffic 3 desktops running AMD or 13th-generation intel can more than handle it. Never mind when you approach year 5 of this plan and now have 2 locations with backups serving your website.
Can you help me understand why you would want to run a website from your own server, instead of from an online consumer one like wix or wordpress? Can you give examples of potential problems that may occur/impact a business if a business owner decides to go this route? Thanks!
My I.T. person decided not to continue with has side business because he was getting to busy with his regular job as head of I.T. for a local municipality. I need advice on a server upgrade. I originally had a Dell Power Edge T310. It is 7 years old but I don’t know what to upgrade to, i.e. memory, Ram etc. I did talk with Dell and the wanted me to buy a $3000 unit but my last two didn’t come close to that. I would be grateful for suggestions. Thank you in advanced.
Instead of me being lots of money for a hosting plan with HostGator just to run websites that have my affiliate program links on I want to create my own web server can I use a regular home-based computer as a server just to get started
Can a server be used as a computer? Putting cost effectiveness aside, if a person wants a computer which won't run into blue screen and other errors and problems, can they just buy a server and use it alone as their computer?
Wait.. So what happened to 123accounting? Did they purchase a consumer Dell? Did it fail horribly? Did they figure out that the person they first asked council from didn't know what he was talking about? Did they contact you before or after purchasing the Dell consumer pc? Edit: Where is the 40 min video about server?
I never got into my major in college because I dropped out, but I wish I would have been more committed, then i would know more about this kind of stuff, computer science was my major by the way
Please don't give up. You don't need college for any of this. Just a small 2 computer lab, watch RUclips and try things out on your own. If you are serious about it, I promise you'll be successful with it. None of us went to college. Don't let that stop you. Good luck.
I am not trying to be argumentative, but instead learn. I have built many computers for home and our family business. All of which run 24/7 for years. I always use high end desktop parts, such as power supplies with 10 year warranties and processors just below Xeons, LGA 1366 and 2066 parts. We haven’t sever had any issues other than the occasional bad video card. So what is to be gained with Xeon based servers?
That's great and no offense taken at all. The message simply is its better to be prepared for the worst even if nothing bad EVER happens. I know quite a few people who have done exactly what you have and never had issues.
Thank you so much for watching and thank you for the comment. You can certainly contact us any time. We all work full time and do this on the side so please pardon any delays in our responses. Thank you again
You a subscribe and like from me. I really like how you explain technical terms and how everything connects in a very simple way. You made it easy for me to visualize everything you were saying - Thank you.

If you watch at 1.75x playback speed, you can still take in everything and cut the 10 minutes in half.
And great vid, BTW.

if you want to avoid blue screens and other errors you need to ditch windows and use Linux
