    Ok, so all acknowledged; you shouldn't be running anything on one machine, even if it is a server. So then, what about running 3 regular desktops on a Kubernetes cluster? With 2 being the master nodes? In that scenario, three 2k desktops would be clustered and take on what one 7k server system is supposed to be doing. If a node fails, you replace the node, and since you have 2 master nodes, if one of them dies, the other continues the execution of the containers. Also, for redundancy, don't you need multiple locations even if you buy a server? You can control the hardware but not the internet if a hub goes down or a line gets iced over and drops in your area.
    This is why I was all about production-grade servers until containerization and orchestration came along. Now I can have 3 desktop computers with new intel or AMD 8 processors running containers with backups, and when one desktop fails, It can be junked or sent out for repairs, and a new one or temp one can be added to the cluster. 100% that one server will last longer, but it will be less cost-effective or redundant than buying 3 good desktops with a 5-year warranty running on a cluster. Once a year, I switch out an old computer for a new one, get the old one refurbed, and put it in a different backup location. as part of a new cluster. Now, if something fails, the others run; I have multiple locations, and unless you're doing google level traffic 3 desktops running AMD or 13th-generation intel can more than handle it. Never mind when you approach year 5 of this plan and now have 2 locations with backups serving your website.

    My I.T. person decided not to continue with has side business because he was getting to busy with his regular job as head of I.T. for a local municipality. I need advice on a server upgrade. I originally had a Dell Power Edge T310. It is 7 years old but I don’t know what to upgrade to, i.e. memory, Ram etc. I did talk with Dell and the wanted me to buy a $3000 unit but my last two didn’t come close to that. I would be grateful for suggestions. Thank you in advanced.

      Please don't give up. You don't need college for any of this. Just a small 2 computer lab, watch RUclips and try things out on your own. If you are serious about it, I promise you'll be successful with it. None of us went to college. Don't let that stop you. Good luck.

    I am not trying to be argumentative, but instead learn. I have built many computers for home and our family business. All of which run 24/7 for years. I always use high end desktop parts, such as power supplies with 10 year warranties and processors just below Xeons, LGA 1366 and 2066 parts. We haven’t sever had any issues other than the occasional bad video card. So what is to be gained with Xeon based servers?

    • @theguystech2813
      @theguystech2813  6 лет назад

      That's great and no offense taken at all. The message simply is its better to be prepared for the worst even if nothing bad EVER happens.
      I know quite a few people who have done exactly what you have and never had issues.
