Brilliant, I am working in a data centre environment and had never an idea I am working with Hardware, whose labels itself are self-explanatory. Thanks 😊
Tip from a beginner in case you want a server cabinet: you can buy them mostly in 600mm deep and 800mm deep. You might end up buying a 600mm deep server cabinet and then realize most servers are more than 600mm (23.5 inch) deep. I have been there. Or actually I am still there... I might end up putting a desktop computer into a 2U rack chassis.
@diyinfosec Greatest video. Any recommendations on buying a rack server in india, just for homelab with like 44 cores or more dual cpu etc..no raid, storage required. All i'm finding these refurbish stuff vendors are asking for crazy money 10 times of what Ebay US has for anything. please suggest me something with your experience.
i have bought a Dell R630 as a refurbished. It runs sins then pretty solid. Normally yo can say: A server is build like a tank, if the Server didn't die after 3 months it will last forever. In the most times this is true my oldest server i have is 23 years old and works for me for 17 years . my newest server is the R630 and it does 90% of all services that was running on my old system and it is way overkill. my last server had 4 cpus with 2 cores each without hyper threading and 32gb ram in total and had a utilization of 95% all the time. i thought its time to replace. so i bought a R630 for 600€ and man this is a beast. it has 2 xeon E5 2685V4 and 512gb ram and a 4 port 10gbit sfp+ NIC. this thing is crazy fast. With all my services i run, it does barely anything. it has 0 to 1% utilization. i think this thing will last 15 years and more again for me.
this randomly came up but i have a tower server that been rebuilt and upgraded but i didnt pay for the server as i rescued it from one of them big roller dumpsters that was placed at the side of a closed down family video its a single cpu Dell PE t320 thats been tricked out....it was one of the things that helped keep my sanity during when things where shutdown in 2020...its more like a workstation with what i put into it than a server but it is a server i back up my laptop and its also my media server
