How a server works? Easy! It stands around, looking for "clients" or customers to get orders from. The server will take the order and bring it back to the backend ^^ or kitchen and they will prepare the response or "food", once the food is done, the server takes it and delivers it to the customer. Now it goes back to its idle state and waits for new requests. Oh, we are not talking about restaurants?
It looks like this server does a very complete memory check when it starts up to make sure that all the memory is working, since this is a server computer. Also this long startup time does not really matter, because once the server is on and fully running it will commonly be kept running 24 hours a day 7 days a week for a full year or more only being shutdown when necessary. It is likely that the final shutdown for replacement will be one of only a very few shutdowns in the life of the server. This contrasts with the use of my home computer, which gets shutdown each day when I go to bed. I have done this with all my home computers I have had over the years and they all have lasted up to several years.
You can press space on the keyboard to skip the memory check.... or you can change the setting to do a quick memory check instead... It's in the BIOS. I have a couple of Poweredge R815's with 512Gb and Quad CPU's running Minecraft servers. Can you imagine the memory check time? Was soooooo long.
Bandwith really searching trough the dark corners of....... The Corner to find all this amazing technology to showcase in this video for us mere mortals.
Around $400, plus whatever he paid for the memory upgrade. Ancient but cool assuming you don't need a dozen or more. Personally, I need to see how a server compares to an Antminer
a server with dvd drive, you have my full attention. I wouldn't mind a video showing the Blueray drive ripper setup with a robot thats responsible for changing the CD. 🤣
Oooh will the horror game be hosted on the Server and you use the PSX to join in as a client while the Commodore64 is used as a terminal to send various commands to the Server to activate different kinds of events in the horror game?
One addition, the Identify button on the front can also be held for about 6 seconds and it will show you a POST code! So if you have a server now powering on, you hold that down and it will tell you the last stage of POST it was on. If I have other additional info i'll let you know. ❤❤❤
what drives are you using beacoz i have the exackt same server machine in my basment it has evrything but not the raid card and the 4 drives but then i see this vid and i am asking you for the drives. i want to get the machine up and run really bad
Oh, a new channel talking about servers? Interesting, try it. Oh, the video ended and...wait! I watched a C64 at the end of the video. OK, subbed in! Cheers, M
Not really sure what you mean by saying that Debian and its patches are "meant" to be distributed on DVDs, I mean you can, but the ISO can be literally put on basically any other storage medium and the updates can be downloaded directly with Apt. You kinda make it sound like it's stuck in the past when it's not 🙂
It's that they still divide them into CD and DVD isos and the whole thing just presumes the medium to be a disc even though it doesn't care what it is.
@@Bandwidth_ytb Oh right, this thing. They only divide them into CD and DVD isos because of the sizes (so that one can comfortably fit the ISOs on those discs) but that's just a convenience thing. Netinst ISOs rule anyway (I hope)
This is the best tutorial video I have seen on a server/ thank you. As part of my contribution, subscribe to your channel and I look forward to seeing more content from you in the future.
Hey there! This one is going to be a little bit longer! 17 minutes! I will be in my Discord server in a voice channel named: post-premiere where you can ask me questions about this video! Anyone can join here: discord.com/invite/Pp6fenHkxH

This is the best comment I've seen under my video yet!
I mean. It's pretty analogous. That is pretty much exactly how a server works in a nutshell.
Great explanation but I think it applies for any processor's role
@@ritwikjoardar966that's the joke 🎉
I personally really like the longer format videos
This channel is one of those hidden gems you genuinely enjoy watching.
What a coincidence, I got 2 very similar servers, though newer models, at work just this week.
Very insightful video, looking forward for more!
Very cool!

I like how you teach these things

Really cool stuff. I have some computer experience but have never really touched an actual server before. Thanks for the video!
You can disable memory check on startup if i'm correct on the bios
how much did that metal slab cost?

This video has taught me so much, thank you!
Once again, nice work! Hope to see more of the server stuff in the future. Keep it up :)
That's the plan!
@@Bandwidth_ytb henry ford of youtube comments!
Thanks for the great time on your TF2 server!
I had such a great time! Thanks for coming!
I'm very excited. Don't get anything wrong, I will know! 😂
I hope everything is right :D
I'll keep this as a logbook of errors I said.
First: I said there are 2 wireless interfaces when they're very clearly ethernet. I mess up sometimes.

Where did you get it from, and what are you even going to use it for
At the CHM Computer History Museum in the Silicon Valley (near Google and the Ames Research Centre) you could take a Server apart…
Underrated af
Wanted to watch some Bandwidth videos today so here I am
Next video... c64 and PS2 hook up to this massive server! 😄

Brilliant! I had no idea Playstation runs on Android. Can't wait to plaintext some Nexus mods
"virus interfaces"... I am stealing that term. lol

Ok

A server is just a fancy computer, no less, no more 🤣
I don't think fancy is the right word. Specialized would be a better term.
I'm just an illustrator and I learn about how an online server works now
Great video.!
Glad you enjoyed it
Hooray
Imagine making a server for ps1 and ps2 games and making some online that wasn't online before lol
I bought r610 for 100$ or 2000kč
Servers are just cool XD
how about making a psp game btw love your videos specially programming ones
I think it's not SATA but SAS controller.
Remembering that some newer notebooks already use these when they use NVME drives…
yay me playing tf2 awfully got in!
I noticed your axent and imidietly know you were from Czechia.
The LAN port she tells me not to worry about.😅
Make more PS1 games please, I want to learn more about the in and outs of how it works...
trex sounds means good… 👍
Is this the same person from the ps1 vids?
Now you can't blame the server because it being like 3m away of it i bet you ping is lower than 2ms
Love your vids!!!
😀 I might switch courses just to know this
my ""server"" is an old computer in the normal corner of my room
i have the same shirt lol
👍👍👍
I don't know you tell me LMAO

I just checked and you only need 8G for 20 players in MC with no mods. With 128G, you must be running 600 mods
Hezký video!
maybe more tf2 related content?
whem part 3 of playstation game development
Love the content but those S's are slashing my ear drums. I'm at fault for listening at 100% but yeah
