    Probably my number one problem. I get hoarse quickly. I don't attack! I apparently sing with tension ( in a choral setting). I'm trying to relax, support more, and even sing with less volume ( and hopefully more resonance). I will keep listening to technique videos and working on it. Yours are GREAT. THANKS!

    This is really good. After a while, you begin to get a sense of seeing the vocal tract. Kind of like knowing exactly what your hand is doing without seeing it physically. I went my whole life (40 years of it anyway) without ever having any discernible muscular and nervous feedback from the throat. What an amazing revelation.

    From one voice coach to another, great video! I always remind my students, minimize your movement and you will maximize your sound. the way you presented this here was easy to understand, yet a very effective way to neutralize vocal strain and muscular confusion. I can tell you are an excellent teacher. Keep up the awesome work!

    Thanks. I read Lamperti in his book say something to the effect of " first you must remove all violence from the voice". I think he was talking about what you are showing here. Making sure you onsets are not so forceful so as not to disturb your vocal line. Thanks!!!

    This is totally true for me. I think attacking glottal stops might be a symptom of tension if not, at least work in tandem with tension to strain the voice. I'm glad that this issue was recognized and emphasized!

    I think this could really help me. My voice got messed up several years ago from a combination of acid reflux and vocal strain. I've been wanting to get back into singing live again, but I'm unable to do what I could before. I even went to a vocal therapist, but in some ways this video seems more helpful because it goes directly to singing.

    Yes, since I've found my vocal range every time I sing high notes, my swallowing mechanism kicks in, and my throat starts closing up. I end up with a strained voice, it's driving me nuts trying to work this out though. I think you may be on to one thing is that I'm pushing too much to get to notes particularly higher notes.

    What would you suggest to help a singer with a partially paralyzed vocal cord? Its partly frozen midline. I am a singer who was trained but need to find someone who can give me some help with this. My vocal cords get tired quickly and then the damaged one will spasm. I know the excercise to relax it but I'd like to avoid the spasm altogether. Thamk you.

    • @rejoiceinyourvoice-tricial3731
      @rejoiceinyourvoice-tricial3731  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your comment.... the larynx will will tilt....as the vocal folds move from lower notes to higher notes there can be a sensation of up and down, but for me it's more of a tilting action. The feel the idea here is to allow the larynx to move freely... not depressing it or narrowing it.

    Mrs Leines:
    One of my problems even with taking into account all that you say about strain, is my throat gets very flemmy (only way I could think of describing it) after awhile. When either doing warmups or actually trying sing.
    I was taking lessons for a year up until the virus. ....just noticed Nailgunskater is having the same issue as me (hoarse/flemmy)

    • @rejoiceinyourvoice-tricial3731
      @rejoiceinyourvoice-tricial3731  3 года назад +1

      Thank you for reaching out and sharing a bit of your experience. I have experienced this as well time and again. It can be so frustrating. There are few reasons why this can happen so experimenting may help you discover what is specifically going on with your voice... if I am either over-breathing or not managing the breath well this can cause distress in the throat and cause saliva to be made which can be experienced as phlegm. If my onset of vowel and/or consonants are too hard or too soft this can also cause a bit of imbalance in the throat and phlegm can be made. If I am dehydrated and the vocal folds need more moisture, phlegm made come as well to protect the vocal folds. If I am belting, "yell response" is created and the throat gets too tight my body goes into a bit of fight or flight and phlegm can be made. So I had to learn to balance my air to keep the throat relaxed. Train balance for the onset and keep my body and brain as relaxed as possible when belting. I am always trying to minimize the work while getting the result that I want. And, then I do the midset work to make sure my beliefs are not creating a sense of emergency when singing. Let me know how it goes! Wishing you all the best!
