- I recoded this just this weekend in Las Vegas at The Strip at LVMS. Watch the power of this thing as they rev up this 8000hp monster.....I almost fell over from the shockwave, LoL :)

I got to experience a warm up / rev up at Bristol Motor SPeedway as a promotion for the drag strip. It was intense! The crowd was cheering loud as it started and ran for a bit, then when it was revved, the whole track went dead silent. It's truely a whole new world when these things are running. It also shook the seats when it revved. Pure awesomeness.
When they rev the engine and you see it in person you can feel it go thru your soul its that powerful
Polished alloy, nitro fumes, slicks and the shockwave blast of a hemi doing what it does best... simply heaven!
"i hope that thing has a catlytic converter on it"
that is the hardest laugh ive had in a while
a true fan loves the rumble of the engine and the burn of the nitro fumes, standing thid close will give you a nitro stiffy
I love the sound and I wish I could smell the Nitro belching from the pipes. This is what I call Heaven!!!
Hey guys awesome! My son Dusty he loved the races this is his dream job !! Would be awesome if it came True!!!
it still amazes me how they brake those engines down and put them back together in less than a hour..and they run and sound sooo perfect.
IMO there's only two kinds of people, ones that have witnessed this experience, and those that haven't. If you haven't, you really just can't imagine it. Everytime I take somebody new to a fuel meet, they ALWAYS say it was WAY better than they ever imagined.
When they hold that chassis down....run like hell!
It's funny when the fuelers fire up everyone runs to watch but they run away just as fast when their eyes and noses start burning from the nitro. A diehard race fan like myself just breathes it all in like it is a dozen roses. Once in a while we get lucky and we are directly behind them when they jack the throttle, you are right it knocks you back,,, nice vid
Call me stupid, but I love the way it slooowly turns the wheels in neutral, quickly spins them when the clutch is applied and then stops as the driver pulls the brake. Sure, every car can do the same, but paired with a top fuel idle it's impressive.
There is no better feeling then when a top fuel pounding 8000hp into the ground and your body absorbs every bit of it.
Orgasmic i guess
Call me stupid, but I love the way it slooowly turns the wheels in neutral, quickly spins them when the clutch is applied and then stops as the driver pulls the brake. Sure, every car can do the same, but with that kind of idle it's impressive.
Hell yeah! I bet that thing has a better power to weight ratio than a jet fighter!
god i can listen to this motor for hours.
buddy, that's good shit.up close, you never get used to that blip.but when the guys grab hold of it,and it starts to sound real grumpy, you know it's gunna be soon...rrmmmm.
One reason I got into Nitro RC cars - the smell of nitromethane cannot be beat.
now imagine 10 or more of these beautiful machines all thumping the dirt at the same time probably would register as a small earthquake
damn you guys just made me wanna see and feel it for real!
I love the TFDs.
The first time I saw them I was literally blown back into my seat as they passed by.
I still have the imprint of my shirt on my chest from the force.
its amazing these dragsters can wear out a new set of rear tiers in two miles and run 221ft to the gallon!
Aaaaahhh god i love the feeling when i get that exhaust in my eyes!
Your like me! The closer and louder, the better!
I took a fuel virgin to the races a few years ago. He tried to run away and I grabbed him and made him stand near the zoomies on Forces funny car!
He was choking and gagging and crying....Then afterwards, he said "can we go again?!?.
CH3NO2 forever!!!!
i too have been that close to one of them, several of them rather, and wow, this brings back some sic memories. yeah 8k, LOVELY. i watched kenny bernstein top 300mph for the first time ever @ gator nationals back in 92
that's cuz they revved it up, those things are incredibly powerful, you can just feel the soundwaves going through you.
that was 100% pure unadulterated Top Fuel Rev.
haha kudos man! Nothing hotter than a girl who can appreciate these beasts!
I can remember Springnationals when Shirley won ,,the whole grandstand shook when one top fuel did the burnout
Its hilarious watching people that arent ready for it when they rev it. Ive been going to Brainerd for the last 5 years and its just awesome. Im uploading a video now of another start up from last year.
The sound and the smell is just awesome.
I cant decide if I want to try and go to a Outlaw race or go to BIR again this year. After watching this vid BIR is back in the running. haha
That tap of the gas is actually a full throttle blip while holding the brake. It helps to seat the clutch.
i wish i could cruise around town in a top fuel car that would be awesome!
Of course the engines have ignition distributors. The ignitioncurrent, however, comes from two magnetoes as opposed to an ignition coil, which is used on a normal car engine. The distributors are on the top of the magnetoes right where the ignition-cables are connected.
That's how they break in the clutch. Give it one good "romp" on the pedal.
Great Vid
2:30 Bless you. TF rails are THE SHIT!!!
these are such beasts that, if you stand at the fence infront of the grandstands, your face will get owned by rubber
tv does dragsters no justice, you have to be there to hear feel and smell them go ron capps
this is not the sound of GOD its the sound of Man made Power!!!! a sound like that you dont ignore that demands respect!!
wooo! can't wait for this weekend in Pomona!!!!!!!!
I feel like racing vehicles are always so cool to watch when they are starting up! Also, thank you for subscribing! @Burt De
What the hell was that!!!!! 2:28 Damn i had headphones on and it made my head fly back!!!
ok, u could of just said they are up their in quality with the best engineered automobiles of today
but props for making that sound complicated somehow
I have been to quite a few of these live and even watch Scott Kalitta die in his crash and the power of these things can't be said unless you see for yourself.
I told myself that next time I go to this I am bringing my tripod so I can get an actual video without me jumping so damn high when it goes boom. I get to go see these in three weeks =D
Really palmafi I would never have guessed that!! I mean that thing looks tiny!!
video captures none of the pure insanity of seeing nitro cars in person
Yeah it's CRAZY LOUD!! I went to the 1st 4wide here in Concord, Nc, and now I'm hooked on NHRA... And I'm a NASCAR fan lol. Tv doesn't do it any justice
Ive been to the races is englishtown, when these things take off you can feel the hair on your arms vibrating from the shockwaves coming off each cylynder. Its something you have to see to believe
I am 100% sure on that.
Some facts about nitromethane;
1. It burns far slower than gasoline
2. It contains LESS energy per kg than gasoline
3. It can be burned at a ratio of about 1.7:1 air to fuel, as opposed to gasoline's 14.7:1 ratio. So despite having less energy, much more can be burned in each combustion.
The main reason it can be burned at such rich mixtures is that it has its own O2 (mentioned
Just check out the wikipedia article about nitromethane, lots of good info there.
I want my street car to sound like that.
I don't think they even turned on the nitromethane. If I'm not mistaken, when the engine is cold they start on alcohol. Once it reaches a set temperature, they switch to nitro and everything changes. The engine starts popping, the crew puts on masks, and the exhaust turns a dark yellow color. Nitromethane exhaust is about as pleasant as tear gas.
Norwood Racing make their own 4-cyl top fuel Honda engine using turbochargers - the biggest problem is the turbo lag which they overcome using an innovative nitrous injected anti-lag system. Very cool!!
8000+ horsepower. Sick.
2:30 is the best when the camera man jumps.
I remember my first time. I was with my dad and I turned and said to him "they can't be louder than 43 cup cars going around a track" all he said was ok, two minutes later they took off from the line and he said he looked over at me and my face was white lol.
driver blipped the throttle
ahh the smell of nitro i just love it
Good vid!top fuelers!woo cant beat the smell of nitromethane!
could bring a heart-attack victim back to life!
I like to see this beast go head to head with a Cup Car for one flying lap at Daytona.
almost, we go through about 4-5 gallons during the warm-up. So at ~$50 a gallon, it takes about $200 to keep it running for a minute to a minute and a half.
sick!
There aren't enough superlatives in the dictionary to express what it's like to see one of these beasts unleashed - you have to see and 'feel' it to believe it.............
I love the smell of nitro (and burning rubber) in the morning! lol
@exo6desmo8 That's a whisper of what that motor can unleash...
50 pounds is an insane amount for a non-diesel engine. It would also be interesting to hear the compression of the combustion chamber. I can't remember if the guy says it in the video or not.
thats real power
haha, so many responses. this makes me feel like an idiot for not seeing these NHRA events. I've read stuff about how they burn off spark plugs half way down the track, this is something worth witnessing.
no, that just the force they can create on a rev, trust me
@mr1000rx
The "bang" at 2:30 was they blipped the throttle to seat the clutches, thats right, just a little blip. There is no way to explain to someone who has never seen a fuel motor running up close up in person. The noise, the sound, the raw power and response of these engines can only be realized by going to the track and seeing for yourself. If you are a racing fan, you owe it to yourself to attend a Top Fuel NHRA event sometime, amazing.
Is that one of those new hybrid cars Al Gore wants us to buy?
I love it when every one cringes when it goes AHHT!
pushed on the pedal full blast for a second. It's so loud it makes your head move. Thats what happend to me when i was next to a dragster
gotta love the smell of nitro.
2:31... hi hi hi... wonderful. :-)
hey if ya'll have never been in the pits when they start those engines up that should most definitley be on the "to do" list when you go, insane!!!
Not saying that they don't have 2 distributors, but for anyone wanting some good information, they are actually called magnetos. They don't need a coil or MSD box, the "Coil" so to speak is built in to the distributor and creates its own spark as it is turned. Don't know for a fact, but my cousin used to wrench for Tommy Johnson JR back when he ran the Mopar TF and said it will knock u on ur ass if u turn the mag in ur hand.
Tyrannosaurus Rex. No mercy. Never. Not for anybody.
2:30 scared the crap outta me.
jks728 is telling only half the story. These engines are so powerful that each cylinder creates a tear in time/space, a worm hole if you will. The matter that enters the intake (people etc.) is simply transported to an unknown corner of the cosmos where it is sold at an intergalactic flea market. The bright orange flame is a by-product of the enormous energy release by interstellar travel. Read Hawkings book, it explains all of this. Now don't get me started on the wrinkles in the rear tires.
there is NO better sound and smell in the world!!!!
A buddy of mine was taping Don Prudhomme's car during a pit trial run, and they bumped the throttle 3 times real quick and it blew the mic on his camera.
great vid, awesome engine! what happend at 2:30 backfire?
they are realining the clutch
No, they run about 6.5/1 compression. A lot of cyl pressure though. The nitrmethane contains two oxygen molecules and so lots can be packed into the engine without the fire going out. That and the blower will push around 50psi. Outrageous engine really.
You have to see these things in person. Watching them on tv is nothing compared to in person. As they come down the strip, the air literally distorts. My wife started crying her first time seeing one. The intensity was too much!!
I know exactly what you mean...I've been there when one of these warms up and when you are there for the 1st time its shit scary. When he turns it on from 00:12 you think damn thats loud and you get used to it, but then he puts his foot down and all hell breaks loose!!! I did actually fall over when he revs it. (Those guys should be wearing gas masks - all that nitro...)
Thing that's mind blowing? Get this: The supercharged puts out 500PSI.
Ye, the intensity is ridiculous!!! Its overwheming!!
And the crying, I think it must be the nitro, coz one of the particles that they use in it is used for pepper spray I think.
Powerthristy, just to clear it up, nitro is actually a very bad fuel. Gas has more btu output than nitromethane. But what makes nitro different is that when it burns it creates its own oxygen so that is why they can put so much nitro through the engine and offset the lack of btu. You would never be able to put that much gas through that engine, but if you could then gas would be the better fuel.
8000 horseepower. Damn!
1000+ horsepower per cylinder. Holy shit. :p
Lol, thats an interesting and accurate way to describe it I suppose.
i cant wait for the mile high nationals in denver
They don't use ether, they use gasoline or methanol. The reason they don't start on nitro is because the chance of an explosion is far to great. A shotglass worth of nitro sitting in a cylinder is enough to blow a cylinder head off the block.
Scott Weis had an incredible startingline explosion last year in his top fuel dragster (2006) because fuel puddled inside the blower and when they hit the button on the starter it blew up big time and injured a couple crew members.
I think i was there, cory is good freinds with a sponser of mine. Boat brokers in havasu. I love the fuel cars, have you seen the vid of the crowd jump as a fueler burps the thottle?
Horses for courses they are just built for different things.
Any way they are real mean machines :D
We call it hydrailicing in UK, happens when u drive underwater aswell!lol
Do these things use so much fuel that the "hydro-lock" when starting if not careful?!do u have a start setting on the fuel system to avoid this?
Do these have no cooling systems due to short operation time and strangth. Ive never seen one up close.
