  • China has confirmed it is building a fourth aircraft carrier in its bid to close the power gap with the U.S. and the world’s largest carrier fleet. Experts are expecting China’s new carrier to be nuclear powered, like U.S. and French carriers, with virtually unlimited range.

But on the other hand, free Taiwanese government & people has ruled China... they have a historic claim over China.
On South East Asian, not a single communist have step foot on WPS, even Mao hasn't sail to WPS. So the claim of Chinese communist in Spratly or inside Philippines EEZ is a sinking sands, null & void according to International law!

The discussion is only about CCP aspirations and possible strategy to attain ill defined objectives... Ill defined because China has totally failed at creating even a small crack in the alliance of Pacific island nations the US has organized and backstops .
Nuclear propulsion could in theory enable China to project military power without depending on nearby military bases but China lacks technological expertise and operational knowledge. Nuclear aircraft carriers are some if the most advanced and complex weapons systems in its arsenal and it has taken a hundred years of intense effort to develop the capability while China is barely at the crawling stage. The Type 003 Fujian isn't nuclear and at least 5 years if ever operational and may eventually be considered another mistake with hardly any capability.
Lacking aircraft carriers is an issue separate from China's aspirations to become a naval power, though. China may follow the Russian path and just load up enormous missiles on ships. The difference between a missile vs aircraft navy is apparent though... Missiles might be economical to a point but are fully expendable including its delivery whereas aircraft are reusable delivery platforms so that the main cost per attack is the warhead. In a long running conflict more than a few days or weeks, the side using aircraft has a substantial advantage.

lol. For China's first aircraft carrier they bought an old soviet carrier from Ukraine. That was a casino. China's second aircraft carrier was a copy of the casino.
China's third aircraft carrier meant to rival the current American carriers with electromagnetic launch system (stolen tech from the US) still doesn't work.
China has no aircraft even capable of using such technology. Their J-15 is more funny than threatening.
China's fourth aircraft carrier is... who knows. There's more smoke and mirrors here than anything else.
I know for a fact the US Navy does not fear any of them. China's military across the board is more "face" than fact.
China's PLAAF was shotting their mouth off a short time ago. "We'll meet you in the skies" said the senior Chinese Airforce general. A couple of months ago the Chinese were using their super stealth (not) aircraft when they bumped into a couple of US F-35's. Suddenly all bragado stopped. It seems our boys scared the Chinese pilots.
China's PLAAF will never see an F-22. They'll be dead, and never even know where it came from.
Look the plan is simple should war break out. No one wants to step one foot on mainland China or needs to. A couple of US destroyers in the Malacca straits. China would be deindustrialized within a year followed by terrible famines thereafter. The Chinese are desperately reliant upon world trade and in the worst position to be starting a war. China will destroy themselves.
Holding China off Taiwan is the only question, and those plans are well in progress.
China has nothing to "win" here.

That is a good point, re-symbolism rather than functionality. China's small fleet of carriers are theatrical, whether due to their being based on dysfunctional refits or unproven indigenous designs. The US has 11 proven CSG's, centered on nuclear powered carriers, and 9 ESG's centered on smaller carriers. All of these vessels are part of their own battle group, typically including other ships and a submarine. The US Navy has other capacities on top of this. The amount of power projection that the US has is unmatched, and will be for the foreseeable. future.. This show could foreground existing capacities rather than speculating on the efficacy of the PLAN. Military analysis should focus on Taiwans defense considering that the battle space is actually moving to the upper atmosphere and space...specifically missile and communication capacities.

China is not a blue water navy now or for a few years to come. Their battleships and destroyers cannot travel far from their domestic naval bases because of refueling problems. They can't refuel using their artificial islands because those done have enough gas for all those big ships. They can have a nuke aircraft carrier but it'll be traveling alone until it updates at least enough of their fighting ships to escort and protect the carrier. If not then they can only deploy to the east coast of Taiwan as they did during the last Taiwan elections. Ineffective danger rattling that didn't even scare Taiwanese. What's going to happen when they try that with a successful and effective blue water navy. Also their electromagnetic launchers on the fujian aren't working, the power plant doesn't generate enough electricity for sustained use. And they still can takeoff and land on their carriers, they don't have trained pilots and even if they did the Carriers can't launch and catch anything but their smallest aircraft or only partially loaded fighter jets. Does the USA, France, etc have this problem? They're launching fully loaded F35s. Saber rattling doesn't scare warriors.

Funny thing about China is, it builds Aircraft Carrier and after an year it breaks down and goes back to Shipyard for repairs. So Chinese carrier looks big but how worth it is, its a question. Recent spy footages shows cracks on the New Fusian Chinese Aircraft Carrier and efforts were made by Chinese to hide it from the public, thats hilarious. This is a proof of poor quality output in a huddle to rollout too many ships in short time, and thats hurts quality of the product. Aircraft Carriers are not produced on the production line like ordinary products. Enough time must be given to the product to mature and perform well for long time. China does lot of Show Off but it looses on its credibility. Just Look at Taiwan, Taiwanese products are known for their better quality and reliability. Taiwanese don't do Show Off they just work smart, kept better relations with the world and has achieved the success, that's it.
