When Dawn was describing the simple grocery list and same meals per week, it made me think, “That sounds like a capsule wardrobe, you know you can make many of the outfits you love with all of your clothing items!” It’s like a capsule meal plan 😊 love this! Really makes sense to me how this could reduce a lot of unnecessary decision making! Thanks, Dawn!

I’ve been doing this for years…i think i did repeat meals but when my organized daughter went to college she would refer to her meals by the day…so i adopted that more formal plan, Tuesday is always taco tuesday, Wednesday is usually some type of pasta, Friday is cheeseburgers, Saturday is either enchiladas, nachos with chicken or beef, or quesadillas, Sunday is chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy,Monday and Thursday are light meals, soup and sandwiches, or stir fry. I can always make or add something different, but this balances the chicken and beef, also easy or more time.
I also make 3 meals for my Mom weekly, this food is made by batch cooking…after a year of doing this I’ve started batch cooking for myself…the entire ground beef package from Costco is browned and divided into 2 cups per bag, I season as i use it, I throw 6 chicken breasts into my pressure cooker, shred and freeze in amounts i need for most meals….this cuts out so much cooking time per week…i add broth and water to the chicken packs…helps them survive freezing…I don’t create more packs until I’m on my last pack.
I used to buy without doing enough monitoring of the inventory…but having to manage my mom’s food inventory, I have her freezer now for only her frozen meal bento boxes….buying only when you’re out keeps the freezer cleaned out.

One thing that you guys didn't mention was the involvement of your spouse. Listening to Dawn for several years , it was clear that Tom was on board with the decluttering from the beginning. However, not every couple is in the same mental place about this. My husband loves the idea but was more emotionally attached to certain of his things than I would be. Over time, though, he's come around to see all the benefits & appreciates the physical & mental freedom that comes with purging. Also, we donate many things that he gets so much joy from helping the less privileged. We are in our 60s & 70s, so it's crucial in my mind to "Clear out the Cupboards" so to speak for ourselves and our kids. They shouldn't have to have that burden. Anyway, fun video guys .🤗 🏖Kj in Tampa Bay 🥰

My mum was sick and depressed and it wasn't the right time.

I love both of you. In my season of life, I can look back and see how different my children were regarding chores and helping around the house. The first two were 3 years apart. They were like living with the odd couple. The older one was neat, organized, cleaned, etc. the second one thought chores were child abuse. 12 years later another baby came along and 15 years later another baby. The last one was ADHD and ODD and physical anomalies that required PT, OT, Speech and vision therapy 3 times a week, on the other 2 days he took guitar and drum lessons. By that time he was the only one left at home, we worked together to keep the toys picked up (by color: all the yellow ones, then the blue ones, etc.). I still was not minimal yet, but very organized. Now he is 26, living with another relative, and does all the cleaning. Once he asked for a new vacuum cleaner for Christmas! He comments on the state of clutter his roommate has and says, “I’m not used to this”. All the kids were different. After 50 years of being a hands on mom, I still ask myself why?!

I always wanted craft and sewing supplies on hand, i can then shop my inventory rather than run to the store always,
Once sewing and crafting become difficult…I have promised myself to donate these items, then someone else can have them at a reasonable price.

    Hi Robyn❤
I think this is my first time commenting so first of all - I love your work and effort you put in it and your spirit because you are just so motivating and encouraging by being yourself, down to earth and honest! That makes it so easy to relate and to ceep on going! Especially when you show yourself being voulnerable (btw sorry for any spelling mistakes. My first language is german...) no matter if it is dealing with sentimental stuff, health issued or other difficulties in personal or business life! So thank you a lot! What I wanted to request though is if you could make a new video dedicated to my biggest struggle - letting go of things that could provide fun..meaning like fantasy-self stuff...it is soooooo hard for me to let go of wood for example😅 I'm kind of a crafty person with a vivid fantasy but am overwhelmed because my whole basement is full of "somewhat usefull" stuff with "great potential"...you know what I mean?😭😂
And it started taking up space in my living areas as well..*HELP*

Hello, i'm from Kazakhstan we as a nation mostly minimalists as a semi nomads, i grew up in minimalist home my mom decluttered constantly everything. we had really good quality clothes, dishes, really beautiful decorated home, paintings, pics, books etc. Home wasn't looking minimal. We all shared cleaning cooking, parents trusted us cooking from 8years, even if meal wasn't good. I married&moved to Italy. I decluttered for 8 years, i couldnt get rid of stuff just gave all to mother in low they never through away stuff😂, even stuff i prepared to give away she picked up all😂 Now i still struggle with much stuff having adhd is not easy, i see my hub uses only few clothes the rest is always there. But yeah he learned declutter too. She's right i still have too declutter, having small house can't&wont keep stuff. Only thing can't involve him to put away things he uses always on me🙄. How to change it?

Thanks for sharing all this! It is interesting to see how different cultures (and families) have different “traditions” around how we keep and take care of our stuff. I am not a relationship expert, so I can’t try to help with the last bit, but maybe the next time you want to declutter, try to sneak things out passes your mother in law! LOL. Good luck and keep on trying. ADHD complicated things a bit, I agree… but just keep on making progress! 💕🌟

Hmm… Striving to declutter and downsize after empty nesting and deaths in the family. Sooo Hard! Do Not want anyone over while in this process who would not understand and judge. Have found who the positive, supportive people are! We are now preparing for a possible physical relocation and have made a major mental shift in Not being the Keeper of All the Things, esp when it really belongs to someone else. Releasing all the emotional sentimental clutter. Realizing the importance of it all really ends with my husband and I. The next generations are not interested. Has been a shocking and rather sad revelation, but it is being donated or trashed with No regrets. The rest of our life and time is ours. Ahh, emotional, mental, and physical freedom. ☺️

She does but only for deep cleaning. Not on a regular basis.

Not a fan of Minimal Mom since she showed her barn serving as a junk room. I do love Minimalist Home, though!

In Dawn’ defence, most everyone has an area to keep those items that we need sometimes but do not need to keep them “on hand” (think camping equipment that is used maybe 3 times a year but we don’t want to have to repurchase it every year.) And we definitely do not want it in our main living space. Dawn is fortunate to have a barn to store her seldom used items. I have a double garage and a crawl space. You might have an attic or a shed.
The important points to focus on are the wonderfully helpful tips that Dawn shares with us about how to effectively and efficiently manage our day to day lives that provide us with peace and contentment.
I also believe that Dawn would likely remind us that perfection is not the goal. We are all different. Use some of her ideas if they will work for you. But remember that we all have stuff that must be stored “in the barn”.

Interesting. I’m glad you still watched and I hope we can all remember that each person has their own approach to minimalism, their own family and their own space(s) to deal with and make work best for them! ❤️✌🏼💕

Oh yes! Shed, garage, storage closet… these spaces are also very important to keep decluttered and hopefully organized, but they do exist!

That is real life not just made up for social media! That's why we love Dawn because she is so relatable!
