- Ernie Watts has built an enviable musical resume. The sax player was a key member of Charlie Haden's Quartet West, played with the Tonight Show band for 20 years, and lent his jazz expertise to the rock music of the Rolling Stones and Frank Zappa's band. Watts is a two-time Grammy winner and well-respected artist across the musical spectrum, but his heart belongs to the jazz that raised him. John Coltrane and Charlie Parker live on though Watts' dynamic, passionate sound that can fill a room and break your heart. Watts is a good friend to Seattle jazz fans and musicians alike, working often with his friend and Seattle jazz icon, pianist Marc Seales, who is featured in this remarkable live performance at the Ballard Jazz Festival.

In 2003, they started the annual Ballard Jazz Festival with the Ballard Chamber of Commerce. Running it on their own since 2007, the 17-year old, 4-day festival has grown along with Seattle's historic Ballard neighborhood. An eclectic mix of 100 musicians from the Northwest jazz scene & international artists are featured on a Jazz Walk around the clubs and shops of Ballard's old town; a mainstage concert is presented in the new National Nordic Museum, and 2 nights are devoted to the Celebration of the Drum and the Guitar Summit.

Never fails, when I'm at the lowest of lows, RUclips comes through with some fire tenor saxophone, speaks directly to the baren wasteland of my soul.
Thanks for watching Dustin, subscribe for more!
Ernie is one of the finest players still alive, either on alto or tenor. Articulation, full sound, pitch, technique, phrase ideas, accurate rhythm. Plays any style. Pop jazz etc
Also a composer and arranger. A very complete artist 🙏🏽
Every time I hear Ernie Watts it is as though he is redefining how to play the sax in a quartet. the man in phenomenal. The drummer has been listening to De Johnette.
Just discovered Ernie Watts' oeuvre today. I am absolutely transfixed, and would like to send this man an extravagant fruit basket.
Amazing Musician.

10:26 That piano groove was nasty
Great player and great guy !
Agreed! Thanks for watching!
Ernie Watts is a great player! I saw him play a few times and he always played with imagination and passion. I like to play differently sound-wise but his sound is beautiful, no doubt!
Wonderful such joy to my soul 🎫🔥🔥
Great tone, a very round sound comin' out there !
Thanks for watching Alva!
Это одно из того , что я люблю
wonderful
Thanks for watching!
yes that's a life life time

Thanks for watching Udo!
Love it.
First tune sounds like 'Invitation'. The piano player quotes it.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇧🇷
amazing tbh (im thinking of switching to synthetic so this helped)
I'm using Forestone synthetic reeds. Bamboo with black resin..so far so good.
Brilliant musician however best known for session work like Chariots of Fire and Night Court theme.
be quiet a lion is roaring ...hear it be quiet know your place rechnique spirit soul did i miss anything
I know it's blasphemy but I like him better than Coltrane. And that pianist, holy smokes!
it's not blasphemy. You like who you like. I love Coltrane, but Joe Henderson's music speaks to me more in most cases. Ernie is flat out amazing though. A superb saxophonist.
There are so many sound models but everybody wants to sound like -have a guess: Coltrane, Coltrane or Coltrane. Boring.
you think he sounds like Coltrane?
