Thank you! I’ve seen that. I think that would be a bit more expensive though if you are converting multiple T5’s, but the Lunchbox will definitely look cooler 😎
I haven’t tried. But my guess is even though physically it might be possible, Red probably will not allow it to be formatted to the camera. They make a lot of money on those MiniMag’s. Thanks for watching!
HELPFUL NOTE. The Samsung drive is plugged into a black connector. If you pull hard then a row of very delicate pins can come out leaving the pins on the board and basically, you screwed rebuilding a drive. (No problem, you’re using it on the Atomos. To get around this issue and protect your Samsung for rebuilding, check the padded cover on the back and carefully lift it off the board at the connector end. Or no amount of pulling will detach it and you’ll do what I did and pull the Samsung row of connector pins off 😬 Take care and it’ll happen.
Hi there. A very good solution! Just one question: will be same to use the Samsung T7? 1 tb hard drive? Can be switched with the adapter you are showing in the video? Thanks

Great idea. I would love to know the speediest difference between the T5 on its own vs through the SATA connection once inside the Sabrant adapter and Master Caddy II.
Great question! So I performed a Blackmagic Disk Speed Test and found that the T5 in the Sabrant adapter is consistently getting 388-389 MB/s vs 430ish MB/s in the original housing. The T5 is advertised at 500 MB/s but never really reached that for me. At 388-389 MB/s it is more than enough for most codecs. I have tested it up to 5.9K ProRes RAW without issue but not anything further than that. Hope this answers your questions. Thanks for watching!
@@GlenReed Thanks Glen. I use the T7 quite often and it's quite a bit faster than that but gets slower quickly once it gets to around 50% or more capacity.
That’s good to know! So far these T5’s have been a solid performer. Since you reached me while at my desk 😉 I performed another speed test on one that has 169GB remaining out of 500GB and it tested at 386.2 for read and 386.3 for write. Great little drives for the price. Not sure what the life span is but I have written soooo much data to these drives it’s insane.
@@GlenReed I have a bunch of WD Blue in Caddies as well. Just sold my Ninja V before the sale for $460 to get the Ninja V+ for Canon R5 and C70, so I will try 5k 60P RAW to those WD SSDs. Supposedly it works. I have a ton so we'll see. They are super cheap!
Great setup! I have the WD Blues and they work just fine with 5.9K RAW. I have a 2TB Samsung 870 QVO that will give me the skippy error in raw but works with 4K ProRes 😔
Thank you for this video Glenn! So much appreciate you having filmed and shared this valuable hack. My question is, will a T7 work in that hack as well? Thanks! 😉
Thanks! Unfortunately I don't believe the T7 will work. However now that ssd's have dropped so much in price you can still find cheap alternatives that will fit the adapter shown in the video. Thanks for watching!
One issue I have found using ANDYCINE READER to read the drive is that it does not go deep enough into the drive connection. I opted for the ANDYCINE III - all you do is buy a £79 drive, slide it in to the £29 ANDYCINE III and you are good to go and when you want to read transfer data its simple plug and go!
Hi Glen! Thanks so much for this vídeo!! I hace a question, its the same with a t7, or this hack not is abalible for others ssd? One more time, thanks!!!
I don’t believe the T7 uses a sata connection and is likely soldered to the main board. Although I haven’t tried since I only have the T7 Shield. I have tried the T5 with RAW but only up to 6K. Sorry it’s not the answer you were looking for but thanks for watching.
Hi, really interesting! I have Crucial MX500, big headache - cannot work more than 30 seconds with ProRes RAW, 5.9K or 4k... Have Lumix S5. Any thoughts ?
Hey! I have a Crucial as well and I think it’s a problem with the buffer/cache size. Once the cache fills the drive slows tremendously. Not sure but it’s my best guess.
Unfortunately there are few T5 for sale now. But with the current prices for m.2 sata cards you can find a cheap alternative on Amazon and use the same housing to adapt it to the ninja. Hope this helps answer your question. Thanks for watching!

Hey! Thanks! I use a couple different cables. The one in the video is by Kondor Blue amzn.to/3JCXUkT the other is a very inexpensive but great cable by Monoprice amzn.to/3FFfH8z both work well even in RAW but the coiled cable can sometimes give me skippy if it’s pulled too tight. I noticed you said this works for 5.9k RAW, I have an S1H and I was trying to adapt a newer T5 SSD to record on a Ninja V, will these items still be compatible? I noticed that you mentioned Atomos recorders so I assume the Ninja V is included, just want to make sure, I am going to buy the adapter along with the SATA to USB-C connector to hook these to my monitor.
Hey! Yes it works well with 5.9K ProRes RAW on my S1 and Ninja V. I also tried it on the S1H and Ninja V during a recent gig without issue. Hope this answers your questions. Thanks for watching!
Great question! Yes that would be the main reason. But it is also much cheaper than the Angle Bird alternatives and in my testing is reliable. Thanks for watching!

You can just buy a SSD itself and save your T5 drives for another use. I'm not sure why you would cannibalize a T5 drive. It seems unnecessary with how cheap 500GB SATA M.2s are. A drive alone will cost you 50 bucks on Amazon. (You could also but a standard SATA SSD for about 20 bucks. and cannibalize that, spending less money.) The T5's are well over $100 and that's not including the extra stuff you have to buy to make this work. Seems unnecessary and expensive. But hey, if you like to tinker, I guess...
