I've gone for a bit of a different style with this so keen to know what you think?! It's definitely easier to talk about images retrospectively rather than in the field, but I think this combo works ok?? Might just be me though 😂
Thanks mate. I find it pretty hard talking about my process as I’m working through it. So many of our opinions about photos are formed long after we take them, so I thought this kind of retrospective style look might work. Had fun pulling it together too!
Fascinating video. You feel for the architect who must have spent so much time on architecture and building design and form and function on a screen, then he comes into the real world to see just how bland the mundane the real-world the airport is... That said, we are all tempted to get a flight somewhere and go to a "world-class" destination so we can nail that one amazing shot. You are proof positive that the journey to somewhere amazing can provide inspiration for many great photos. Genuinely like the shots you've obtained and your thought processes in working out why each one works well or not. Love the benches shot too!
Good photography is just the ability to notice something esthetically pleasing in the ordinary or the underrated. You nailed it! (I love the red benches shot!)
Lots of diagonals, angles, light and shade, minimalist. What else can you do while waiting at an airport! Some of these reminded me of James Popysis’ images. I enjoyed them all, Rick, and your commentary of what you thought worked. At least you got out and did something, always good. Being much older, I’m often out after 10am, except in our Aussie summer! I’m more into creativity than landscapes, but love seeing them.🇦🇺
Thanks!! Funnily enough James was there (not whilst I was taking these) so maybe his aura passed something across?! Either way, I had a great time. I can thoroughly recommend Santiago Airport. But not for the food....!
Three benches is great. Just goes to show that photos are still everywhere despite everything else. I live way out in the countryside but I find even familiar local walks can still throw decent pictures. They may not be bangers but it's all worth it.
Very nice video. Really talking about photography. What is working, what is not. I have loved your thoughts about the process. Keep going, your stuff is great !
I've tried to photograph airports before with very limited success. I find railway stations a much better place, particularly the Victorian ones. Great video, thanks.
I think any place can provide interesting shots. I live in the Alps, and there are amazing locations to shoot. The problem is, when you see it every day all the day, you somehow loose interest and may miss interesting opportunities. When you go somewhere else, even if the place doesn't seem interesting, it makes shooting more exciting again. Also, remember, that there are tons of people that don't know these places and therefore might find the shots interesting.
The sunburn was worth it! Such an interesting video, and now I have fomo that I sat and drank coffee in the air con of the hotel. Loved the shots you got, but more importantly the attitude you had of just getting out there and shooting.
Just saying it as it is 😂 Ahh, just down the road!! North Staffs that is. I'm guessing where you are in Asia is a little drier than it is back home?! Unless you're in Dubai I guess....
@@RickBebbingtondefinitely warmer, not always drier, well drier than Manchester probably 😄I’m in the Philippines so we do get that torrential rain here. I’m enjoying your videos. I used to earn my living as a landscape photographer but fell out of love with it for various reasons. Same with RUclips, I just didn’t want to do the same videos as everyone else for views and make the same stupid face face for thumbnail clicks. Still working out what to do and focus on, so your videos along the same lines resonate.
Quite surprised that you were not stopped by security, when you were taking photos. I was in a Chicago train station, taking a few shots of the ceiling; as it was made w/cross beams/members, and I got stopped by security & made to delete all my shots.....must have thought I was "the mad bomber."
Not many people shoot midday and they are missing out on a lot. Actually, mid-day shots are becoming more unique 😅so stand out more these days. Hope you enjoyed Chile, looks amazing! I'm booked up for there in 18 months.
Interesting idea, something I never considered. A lot a memories/emotions at airports (and being created everyday so a worthy street photography location)
Good stuff! I have some images from a 5-hour layover at Heathrow. I had a blast being bored! Definitely, have fun. I find the World is much more interesting when I’m constantly looking for light, color, juxtaposition, etc. for compositions.
You're being too modest. This architecture is amazing. Amazing sky as well. I loved some of your shots. Minimalistic look,.vibe, colors, shapes, subjects...
Very cool content, as per usual thanks a lot. Quick question: do these shot qualify as a specific genre? I'm having a hard time understanding the frontier between street, urban and architecture. Cheers :)
Thanks!! I think that they do, but it's not obvious 😂 I don't think it's really street, nor architecture as such. Could be close to urban but not all shots I take like this are in urban environments. I've been thinking about this all day and the closest I've got is 'Humanscapes'... Like landscapes, but made by humans. Not convinced it'll catch on but I got nothing else! (Manscapes was quickly ruled out!!)
@@RickBebbington Makes sense and manscapes does have a nice ring to it! Still, the limit between street and urban remains blurry: would considering that urban by definition doesn't encompass human beings in the frame?
You kept going back to the benches! At about 11:49 three benches align and create a leading line sort of. Not that you should go back to the airport for the shot but the heat and tiredness from travel kept you from seeing this?

A very interesting concept for a video Rick! I like the narration style mix

Thanks Justine, appreciate it!! Yeah, might be one of my favourite ever shots 😬😂

Just letting you know that I am rewatching this video because I need some inspiration today. It's so brilliant, yet so relatable
😃 hope it helped?!

Thanks Geoff! I think the quest for bangers is overrated myself, there is much beauty in simplicity 👍🏻
Thank you, I really enjoyed this video as much as you enjoyed your photoshoot at this airport, if not more!
Thanks Gabriel - glad you enjoyed it!!

Totally get that. It’s so hard to keep a more open mind and look properly when you in somewhere familiar.
Well done. I think you're on the right track and I'm looking forward to your upcoming adventures.
Thanks, much appreciated 😀😀
I'm surprised you were allowed to photograph. Good job: I like the approach to finding 'the good in the ordinary'.
Worth that sunburn!
Ah yes the SCL airport. Feels like arriving home

‘Just walked into a bin’ in your accent had me pissing myself. Miss that dry humour living in Asia now. Grew up in north staffs.

I think American security often takes a different view on these things…. I’m not convinced there even was any here!

What a challenge! the three bench photo is a definite keeper it’s a belter Rick
Thanks Andy, it was fun!!
Good video. Like the 3 benches. It was certainly a hot day then.
36 degrees at the end!! Thanks Bernie 👍🏻

People aren’t bored enough. I think we’ve lost the ability to be bored with all our distractions, and as such miss out on all this!!

Thanks, that means a lot!
I really liked those images and I will try something similar.
As an aside, it looked a great airport.
Thanks! It was definitely better outside than inside….!
Channeling your inner Popsys 😂Well done 👍👏👏👏😊😍
It’s an outer Popsys these days 😂

I see what you mean!! If you’d have seen the colour of my face an hour later, you’d understand why things became more rushed!!

What a bummer of a video with all the negativity. 😕 The images are fine.
I didn’t think it was that negative…. Maybe my sense of humour isn’t for everyone 😬 some if the images are great, some not. I just said why 🤷🏻♂️
