I am jsut returning the hobby after a 20 year hiatus. I have a lot of questions but to avoid inundating you I will ask just one. So to perform some maneuvers people use mixing? They are not performing those just using stick control?? I am absolutely amazed at what and open source radio is capable of compared to the 4 channel radios I used in the 90's. I have a Boxer primarily due to price and I purchased a 4 in one module for it. I am so grateful to guys like you for the time you've spent creating content like this. I am so close to retirement I can taste it. This is one thing I want to do more of.
Some people do use mixers for maneuvers. I do not. I use mixing for planes that require it like delta wings. Or for scenarios like putting flaps down--I usually mix in some down elevator with down flaps.
this should be the first video anyone sees when they buy the tx16s... it's so helpful and for more than just dual rates. Really for the basis of all model configs.
Absolutely I don't know why anybody would want to complicate this already intense menu anyway Thanks again for all your great videos That help uncomplicate what seems to be scaring a lot of people away from open TX and edge TX I flown open TX for many years but until watching some of your videos I was missing a lot of things that I could have Done I spent days once setting up door sequencing On a giant scale P51 But these radios will definitely do it would love to see a video helping up though helping others in myself set that up as easy as possible !!
Thanks for the explanation. Maybe you could do a video where you explain where to best put different settings for different types of planes. Dual Rates, Differential, mixing of channels for crow for a glider etc
I can agree with you on this, except when I was trying to make a new model on EdgeTx just to mess with it, noticing that all those are done on the mixer side. Great tutorial as always
Great video, thanks! Coming from an audio-engineering background, this is really counterintuitive. In my world EVERYTHING happens in the mixer. I get why this is the preferred method, but... Also, I'm new to OpenTX/EdgeTX, and old, so I feel a bit like a monkey with a cellphone.
Can you do a video on how to assign the same dual rates, but using the rotating knobs on the top of the radio master? I'm still trying to figure out how to do that with dual rates and gyro settings. It would be nice to rotate the knob at the top from 0 to 100%.
Quality video as usual, thanks. But no mention of using Flight Modes and variables to define rates/expo. Reduces input lines even more. Maybe that would make it seem more complicated to people starting out?
You'll find with Edge/OpenTX there are usually many ways to accomplish a task. I present the methods I believe are most practical and in-line with developer intentions. Certainly flight modes are an option if you want to add that layer of configuration.
@@RCVideoReviews I kinda suspect the developers intended us to use Flight Modes.. you have a switch to select a Flight Mode which defines the value in a variable which is used as a rate or expo setting in one single input line. But probably best for beginners to start out as you demonstrate in your video.
None of the new model options including "create new model" or the wizard utilize flight modes. All of them utilize inputs. Also, the developers watch this channel and I communicate with them pretty regularly, so, I'll stick with my conviction the intent is to use inputs. But like we say around here: Your money, your hobby...do your thing.
Great video. However, I wonder why everyone who creates a video on the Inputs screen with multiple options have a switch assigned to all options? The issue I see with this is, what happens if the switch settings do not cover all possible switch positions? In you example, what if you had the switch be SA center and SA up and nothing for SA down (I suspect this would be a common rooky mistake)? I think this would result in a problem (no input selected, stuck at 0%) until you realize that you need to put the switch in a valid position. Am I wrong about this? I find that the easy way to make sure this never happens is leave the bottom option with no switch selected. On the input screen (behaves different on the mix screen), OpenTX and EdgeTX picks the first line that has a matching switch so if the last line has none, a line with no switch option will act as a catch all and be use when the switch does not match any of the above. What do you think of this? If this is a good idea, why does no one on RUclips tell people to do this? If it is a bad idea, why is it bad? Might be a good video to address this. Let me know if you have questions and/or need clarification about this.
Loved this video and I have reworked my dual rates. One question though, how does this work with dual ailerons? At the moment I have two inputs both with dual rates set. Is there a way to map my second input to my other aileron channel to pick up the same rates?
Yes I worked that out as well after the video and trying it out. It wasn't obvious to me at least. I now have 1 input for both channels, so.much easier. Again thanks for the video it made me stop and think about my lack of understanding .
An other video is missing: Negative values of weight should be used in mixer but must not be used in input (unless you want to have the trim moving to the wrong direction). With other words: since openTX and also in edgeTX we recogniced that the trims are not reversed while the sticks are reversed using negative values of weight in the inputs.
Wow, been dealing for years now with reversed trims... so lucky to stumble upon your comment, huge revelation for a thing that was hidden right in front of my eyes. Thank you!
1) You should join discord. 2) Depending on the version of EdgeTX (they recently made a change) - Older versions, you scroll up and you should see !SD - Newer version (2.10+) in the selector screen you should see an option called invert. Going forward, questions like this are better answered on discord.
Thanks for the information. May I ask an unrelated question. Your tx16s graphics seem cleaner and more user friendly than mine. May I ask how you achieved that?
I didn't do anything in particular. Lately my demos have been done with EdgeTX 2.8 release candidates, so maybe that's what you're seeing. The only other things I've done are they I typically use my RCVR Patriotic theme and I've made my own backgrounds/splash images. That's it. No black magic.
My OCD is getting em to try to label my switch positions so they display in the widget. For example, I have a FMS Reflex V2 set to switch SD. It works fine, but on my widget I'd like it to show "Off", "Stabilized" or "Optimized" rather than the -100, 0 and 100 it is by default. I can NOT get this to work properly. I've looked through your videos and can't find one on this - any guidance?
One thing you can do is use flight modes. Name the flight mode Off/Stab/Optimize (you can use 10 characters) and assign a switch to each mode. Then on your telemetry setup screen you can show flight modes in the center bottom of the screen. I'm not aware of any way to assign text labels to widgets. I'm also not sure to which widget you're referring.
Nice video as usual. I have a question that not related to your topic but hopefully you can help me. I just bound a radiomaster TX16s with a lemon RX receiver. When I give elevator input it moves in the right direction, however when they give aileron input, also gives elevator elevator input. I did not do anything else but bind the transmitter. Do you know what I am doing wrong please
What if you're setting up expo on one switch, and rates on a separate switch? I like to have my expo and rates individually togglable. Wouldn't you need to use the inputs for one, and mixer for the other? I currently have my expo setup on my inputs, and rates on my mixer.
@@EnglishTurbines I'm not sure I agree with that. They accomplish two different things. I can think of situations where you would want access to either or. Primarily when trying to tune in an aircraft. Setting both on separate switches allows you to try multiple combinations to find which rate settings are best on a new aircraft, and which expo they should be combined with. Just my opinion...
you get your throws 100% dialed before your maiden every time? Consider me skeptical... Regardless, I'd maintain there is an advantage to being able to adjust your throws on the fly, individually of your expo. I would never start with 90% expo on a sport plane. No more than 70% initially on a 3D plane. Rates are perfectly useful and are commonly used. 90% expo just sounds like a terrible idea as the center would be terribly flat.
@@RCVideoReviews agreed. 90% expo seems like it would be unflyable. I'm usally in the 0 - 35% range on my planes depending on the model and how the rates are setup.

Nope, just control surfaces where you may want more than one set of rates. Usually the ONLY thing I add to inputs are control surfaces which includes flaps.
