I converted my fox 36 to coil with smahpot I haven’t ridden with it yet (I hope I can test it at the weekend). Btw I chose the stiffer spring from the chart (red stiffer setup) because I don’t want to lose my frame geo at steeper terrain.
Nice review. I really wanted to get the smashpot. I currently have ACS3, but I want the travel adjustability of the smashpot. I wanted to run my insurgent at 150 or 160 most of the time, and run it at 180 for parks.
Agreed, those ruts make things tough. I am looking to go to coil on the Nomad I just got. I dont mind weight, and hate having to constantly adjust the air for temps & elevation. I didnt have to do anything on my hardtail except ride it, I miss that.
I just spent a weekend at lift access trails (Thredbo Australia) with a Fox 36 on a Nomad 4. I friggin love the Smashpot :) I do have the top out clunk, but I’ve got the updated parts to fix it :) Coil for life :)
benny360 i have a very subtle top out noise when i lift the fork up off the ground when i’m at home which i think is normal for a coil kit. Can’t hear or feel any topout on a trail.

For all the people with noise issues:
Check your preload.
noise at topout = too much preload
rattling = not enough preload
DerRoAusKo i got some rattling on high speed chatter and it turned out to be my finned shimano brake pads making all the noise
MTB_MIKE yeah, also very common issue. I replaced them with the smaller one. Still wish they would sit as tight as SRAM pads tho.....

Tony Toretto I went smash pot on my Nomad 4 , wished I'd done it sooner as it's sublime.

Nice Review does it include a spring of your preference?
Raphael Cruise it does, go for the slightly softer spring if you are in between springs
@@mtbmike9866 tnx mike mah man! In the chart my spring is 45lbs so i will go for 40lbs and take another 50lbs for rough rides
that rut in the middle of the trail is a death trap . that thing could swallow half of your wheel !
