  • Heres 2 back to back runs down Twisted Noodle at Waterfall Gully. First with the Vorsprung Secus installed, then with the fork back to standard B1 Debonair configuration. I found the standard setup to be more to my preference

    cheer for the video! Just got my suspension serviced by Cyclinic, feels amazing so far compared to when SRAM Melb did it last December! I have an upgraded Yari RC2.1 / C1 spring. Fork I run 80psi, no air spacers, 4-6x clicks LSC depending on how much I need to lean on the fork, 0 HSC, approx 20% sag. I love that I dont feel the major hits of full travel use!! Keep up the great vids, has helped confirm my suspension set up understanding. :)

    Re your feddback on the Secus. It is pretty much the opposite to how I found it. Makes me wonder if it is not working properly or not quite lined up with the air chambers properly. I had a very early one that had no spacer and the holes in the footstud just didn't quite line up. It rode a fair bit like what you describe, I played with spacers and it came together. Rode so well, great grip, allowed LSC to really add control beyond what I'd experienced before and just felt supportive or strong as I think you'd call it. My favourite fork ever

    Much different experience to me on a zeb, I'm at just above their recommended +20% pressure, probably at around 15% sag. I'm totally getting what the sales pitch says, suppler off the top and more stability in the middle, but no harshness, my bike feels loads better for it.

      @@mtbtelly5522 thanks for your feedback and review - I'm curious whether your Secus is functioning correctly though, because your stated pressures with/without were very close (where if you were running 2 tokens and 99psi stock, I would expect 115-120 and no tokens and for it to still be much softer in the initial travel), and you said (if I interpreted it correctly, because it wasn't verbatim) that the Secus was actually stiffer at the beginning of the travel than the stock setup? That is something which it definitely should not be - it should be very soft to the touch at the beginning of the travel even at much higher pressure. If you're so inclined, shoot us an email with the details of your settings and we'll run through a couple of checks. The Secus was originally developed on this very fork and compared back to back with the B1 air spring as well, and my personal experiences are quite the opposite to what you've described here, which makes me think something isn't quite right. steve at vorsprungsuspension dot com if you've got the time. Thanks!

      @@VorsprungSuspension hey Steve thanks for the info. You may well be right about it not being working correctly. I’ve since removed it and am back running a standard setup with the b1 and no token at 99psi. I was fairly careful with the install so maybe theres something happening inside there.

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  3 года назад +5

      I’ve spent a couple years on a 36 performance elite, and tested a couple of 38s so far. I wouldn’t buy either over a Lyrik Ultimate. They’re both excellent but I prefer the performance and simplicity of the Lyrik. I’m yet to test a Zeb properly though.
      I wouldn’t go to a Float X2 from a Superdeluxe. They’re both great shocks but the X2 is high maintenance and can be troublesome to find an optimal setup.

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  2 года назад

      No rattle or any odd noises. I spoke in depth with Steve at Vorsprung, and he thinks I may have had an issue with the Secus when I tested it, relating to the air getting through the channels to where its supposed to go. So my opinion of the performance may not be accurate compared to a fully functional secus setup

      @@mtbtelly5522 It would probably need to be just the Smashpot - don't have a spare Lyrik at the moment otherwise would be happy to lend the fork, so probably not going to work out. It's worth noting that people have actually gone back to air from a Smashpot successfully before, me included on a Pike - ran the Smashpot for 4 months and pulled it out to warranty the CSU for creaking, no internal marking or damage at all & happily went back to running the original Debonair spring. For sure a gamble though and obviously something that can't be guaranteed.

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  3 года назад

      Thats a good observation.
      On reflection I think the Secus suffers a similar characteristic to the C1, which tells me it may perform well at this travel with 3 tokens installed and 10 psi less pressure. So take the stiffness away from the top (-psi), and replace it at the other end of the stroke with tokens (equivalent to 4-5psi per token) which should make the spring from sag feel more trustworthy and supportive. The downside would be the altered shape of the rebound curve. Or it may feel wooden at that setup. I would’ve tried it if I had thought of that possibility. Best case it did perform how I’m assuming, I’d still be a little underwhelmed by the overall performance vs the B1
