- I invited 3 friends to play in a Custom Super Mario Odyssey level, but what they don't know is that's its a troll level with the exit hidden right at the beginning. This was a ton of fun to put together so I hope you enjoy and consider subscribing!

Honestly. You can see it in their eyes. They're still smiling bc they've finally got the answer to the puzzle. Then they respawn and take in their surroundings - and the smile immediately drops into a dead-eyed stare. Fucking beautiful.
Tomb Raider 1 on PS1 has a somewhat similar feeling. The ps1 version for some reason decided to make the save points work only once, so when you came into a room and saw two save spots floating around, you would feel absolute dread because you have no clue when you should use one of them.
I’ve seen it a lot in Mario Maker maps, but my god this one is even more dreadful and I love it.

See, they're trying to predict the double-bluff.
If you go into a level expecting everything to be a troll, then the biggest troll is for something to be normal.
If you do the obvious thing and it fails, you feel a little dumb.
If you ignore the obvious thing and it was the solution the whole time? You feel super dumb.
It's also more comforting to just rule it out from the start so you don't spend every attempt questioning if that really was the solution all along.

If Smant saw it the first time he went around the Odyssey, that would have truly been a legendary moment in Mario Escape Room history.
For all intents and purposes he could’ve. We’d just never know. Getting the solution in 5 minutes doesn’t make good content for your friend. So he’d either have to go through everything or get cut from the video. Maybe he gets a short solo segment at the end but it’s just not funny enough

@@XYZeNxghtmxre fwiw months later, Smant did clarify on stream that while he didn’t find the door, Fir did later tell him that if he had, Fir would’ve asked him to play through anyways :)

Even worse, some of those tests were suspecting the exit was at the beginning of the level. If only he was more exploratory then
I was half expecting that the timer room was actually secretly SMO Online, and Fir would just hit a button on the other side of the map at some point in their frustration for comedic timing to open the door

I knew that room had to just be a timer. The way Fir led them on I think stopped them from realizing. Great stuff.
I can’t wait until for the next escape room where every single one of the them tries the odyssey at the very beginning
But doing so brings them to a “real” room with a checkpoint. They have to get through a series of rooms to get back to the start, unless they pull an Alpharad and just restart from Cap.

Fir and Smallant continue to share a brainstem. If only Smant had trusted his gut about the exit! But the final scores are a fantastic result too.
I think maybe he wanted to check it, but went along with the level for content. I don't know, his intuition seemed too strong to search as minimally as he did.

When you hid the win condition in the odyssey pipe, my first thought was "smallant is absolutely the type of person to think to look at the odyssey during one of these challenges"

The design on this is actually golden. The gate at the beginning has so many layers.
I love how these really just show how smart Alpharad is...That or he just thinks like a sadist just like Fir, one of the two, or both.

these escape room levels are really fun
But do it all without checkpoints is hell
I've come to the conclusion that Fir's love language is SMO troll levels
I can't believe Smant went back to the Odyssey to look for an exit twice and missed it.
At some point, they should form an alliance to make a level specifically for you.
I probably scared my neighbors with the laugh I let out when the _one_ checkpoint in the level was revealed. 😂

The formula to a good troll: "Make you focus at X, while Y interacts in a way you're not expecting." For example: the jump = X, the hidden block = Y. Or, a room with a lot of moving parts (that do nothing) = X, fireball that kills you because you're standing still = Y. This level had none of that. Just a lot of killing. You have a lot to learn.
I just realised that while cjya & smallant thought they were doing an escape room at first while alpharad thought he was doing a troll level right of the bat because alpha has only done the other troll level

The instant they started doing nonsense thing in the goomba room, I knew it was gonna be a timer. Nothing they did was alike, and it reminded me too much of a psych experiment I'd seen on tv befor, where a group of people were trying to increase a score, that turned out to be controlled by the movement of a goldfish xD
Every Fir video these days is an absolute banger, literally becoming one of my favorite channels
My favorite part of these videos will always be the tight race between cj and smant since their play styles are so different yet effective in their own way.
Smant can cut out failures and therefore save time with his intellect and guesswork, meanwhile cj keeps diving headfirst and learns later.
It's always a toss up to which one is better and I love finding out at the end.
(Tldr, I attribute this loss to smant hesitating before picking up the death heart instead of skipping it altogether, or picking it up right away like cj did)

I can't believe that Alpharad just gave up and tried to cheat the system... and he still lost.
I mean, he does the first world in less than 25 minutes, so he decided to cheat after he had already lost -- and Fir likely let him know that. At that point, it didn't really matter anymore; he isn't a Odyssee speedrunner like the other two so going back with the trick jumps would likely just have been painful (to do and to watch).
I mean, it probably was faster than redoing Fir's level, he simply wasn't going to beat CJ and SmallAnt regardless.
I love it because he was the only one who thought about skipping challenge and actually find a way

I know a lot of work goes into making these escape rooms, but I love them so much. Dont think theres a series of videos on RUclips I'm more excited to click on, and that is including Hide and Seek.

I laughed so hard! I do feel a bit sorry for them though, that must have been so frustrating..
But one of these days, you'll have trained them well with the troll levels. And then it's just going to be a perfectly normal custom level and they'll second guess themselves at every step

This was the best one so far. The fact that Alpharad and Smallant made a comment about the exit being at the beginning is amazing 🤣. And also including the only checkpoint at the very end after they realize that the exit was at the beginning 😂

Yeah!! (If you didn't watch to the very end, fir explains that the goomba room is just a timer) i heard about an actual psychological study that was conducted where people were put into a room with a printer that would print out a dollar every thirty seconds, but they weren't told that. They were just told that they had to figure out what causes the machine to print. (They were also being recorded and they knew that they were) so people would make up wild theories according to random things that they did in the room because they assumed that it was something that they were doing.
You definitely need to make more of these for your friends. Their reactions, especially Cjya's were SO FUNNY!

Honestly I think smant should’ve won that. Fir told cjya to go get the moon as fast as possible at the end there. Although mad respect for Alpharad taking an unorthodox strategy at the ending.
