TV should never be used as a monitor
Why?
Maybe input lag?
Depend on what you use it for.
Monitor designed to be used at close range, TV designed to be used far away at your couch, ===> you can still use TV at close range, and slowly destroy your eyeballs
@@alexandralefish4236 tv monitors and pc monitors are not designed for either close or far range , the only reason that they say that is because the pixel density for images is not a factor when far range on tvs but it is not because they are designed for distance but only to explain why resolution is ok in ceratin distances and all monitors are the exact same to your eyes they all need calibration with a color and image calibrator, no matter what screen weather it is small or big you destroy your eyes if not calibrated.

That laptop arm is something that I've never heard of but it's really cool and I will definitely get one of those!
David, I'm loving how well your setup is becoming! Really nice to see how personal this is getting.
Hey David, amazing content as usual! Quick question - does the weight of your huge screen exert so much pressure on that particular point of the table top & cause it to warp over time? I know there's a metal brace somewhere underneath, but I'm sure it's somewhere further away from that point you mounted the monitor arm. Does this make sense? 😅 I use a monitor arm (for 9kg ultrawide) on those cheap Ikea tops & the table got warped out of shape badly 🤣
He got an expensive desk I guess
You could use Synergy and use mouse and keyboard on both computers at the same time seamlessly, I believe it even allows for copy-paste and file moving between devices
I came down here to mention this too. I have a desktop, work laptop and another old laptop powering my non-smart LCD TV. with Synergy I set the desktop with the keyb and mouse as the server and can then move my mouse from the laptop screen , thru both screens connected to my desktop and onto the TV in one seamless motion. It's fantastic. Being able to copy and paste between all 3 machines is also invaluable. P.S. Any screen the mouse is on gets keyboard input as well
Does not seem practical to look at a big screen from a small distance and having a laptop in the air for working.
Have one keyboard and use synergy!
Just a question. You have an eletric ajustable table. What about the cables and your pc? What happens to them when you lift the desk up?
This setup is beautiful!

Aren't televisions supposed to be at least 1m away from the eye ? i knew that TV's aren't made for desktop gaming or idk using

Yeah idk u he uses a TV instead of a monitor I would just get an ultrawide 39" monitor instead
what happen to ur old stuff? Those edifiers dell monitors?
Still have them. I actually switched my speakers shortly after this video. Couldn't stand the tin sound from these tiny speakers. Wasn't worth the space savings (which was the original reason I popped the edifer back in). Still loving my large 4K monitor so the dell is on backup right now.

Couple of questions please ?
1. what TV are you using? isn't it very reflective and straining on the eye ?
2. Did you calibrate your TV for color accurate work ? Most TV's are not able to display the full sRGB spectrum. how much color gamut does it cover?
You can buy a 98% sRGB 4K TV, its enough for most of us. The only problem with the tv is the pixel ratio, its not easy to buy a 4:4:4 tv, and it cost much more.
His set up: you only see this in TV
Meanwhile My set up reflects most of the reality cases :
- gaming wired mouse with no bungee( I use some heavy book instead)
-No external display ( bc im broke af ) I use an empty fruit casket instead to elevate the laptop and as a cool pad
-I have a budget keyboard I put on my lap when playing (as there's no space for it on the table)
And lastly and most importantly I use a towel to cover my set up after finishing using it so it doesn't get dusty
kinda same, but I stopped gaming until I get a better laptop or pc
Synergy solves the problem with using one keyboard and mouse with two pc
Linus Tech Tips!
Only if both devices are running.
If he is working on his Laptop, running the Desktop PC just to share the Keyboard and Mouse would waste a lot of power.
If he is working on his Desktop PC, he doesn't need to plug the Laptop in.
Great setup. I'm trying to solve the same problem, and I had not considered using a multi-input TV with a remote to switch. I need to see of proper computer monitors can use a remote.
Synergy is a great product, but I don't see how it makes sense on one monitor. Synergy allows you to mouse across multiple monitors that are attached to different computers. He is using one monitor. Synergy sends mouse clicks and keyboard taps to the computer that has the monitor with the cursor. One monitor? I suspect both computers would see the same keyboard and mouse at the same time.
There is another use case where it falls apart. When I bring home my work laptop, I can't be on a VPN to work and my local network at the same time. Synergy must be able to reach both networks.
How come there is no KVM switch that links all devices to laptop with one cable and charges it?
Nice setup, I'm looking to make something similar. A little tip: you can use something like VNC viewer to connect to your laptop all wireless. This also allows you to easily copy over text from your desktop to laptop and vice versa.
Can you use your laptop as a separate screen that is different than what is showing on the monitor? Or will the laptop screen only show a duplicate of your monitor?
@@KingRockets yes you can, you can either extend (show different), duplicate (show the same) or show only on monitor 1 (turns off laptop display and only uses the external monitor)
2:33 if you use a laptop as a stationary PC use a laptop manufacturer software to limit battery charge level. For example, for Acer laptops there is a software called "Acer Care Center", which limits charge to 80%.
Loved the setup, i´m gonna try to copy it a little. How did you manage to charge the Dell XPS15 thrue the USB type C? I have the same laptop, and it wont charge thrue the thunderbolt port.
Hey, can I have your desktop 🖥 Nah, just kidding.

how do you switch between macbook and pc on the monitor? im trying to make a setup like this but i end up using 3 ports on my macbook, Thanks. I was very inspired by your setup and it was just the one i wanted in terms of clean and modular
Thank you so much for the suggestion of using the KVM, but using the different ports on the monitor with a direct input each from the laptop and desktop. I was looking at much more expensive KVMs that would carry the visual signal. The cheaper KVMs would have caused a visual downgrade.

Love the clean and chill vibes of your uploads! Nice stuff.
Instead of buying a USB switch and pressning a button each time you want to switch between the laptop and the pc. You can instead use a program called Multiplicity where you can switch between the laptop and pc flaewlessly with a hotkey or swiping the mouse to the chosen side as if u were using a dual monitor setup. Multiplicity also transfers audio between the computers. It really is amazing
I love your set-up, brother! So awesome to be working at home with that kind of office setup.
0:22 this is the legendary mouse! g602! both with g604 they are one of a kind! logi should remaster it, with same design but extened func(scroll side buttons) and 1GHz polling rate
When I had two laptops on the same desk I used to have them both closed-up in the far corners of my desk for neatness. I used my logitech wireless keyboard and mouse to switch between the two. The novelty was the dual monitors. Because there were 2 display leads from each laptop into discreet sockets on each monitor, I could click the monitor buttons and choose one screen per laptop, or both screens for either. So I could "monitor" one laptop, whilst typing into the other. I did have to colour code my windows-desktops so as not to get mixed up :)
He has all these ergonomics yet he still has bad posture lol
It’s all really nice, but the cable management is trash bro

Or are those blue tooth speakers to switch between PC and laptop?

@David Zhang - where did you get your desk from?

Me- dedicated gpu.
This guy- dedicated keyboard and mouse!!
Sounds and looks like dongle hell. Too many USB connections! I guess I'm coming from the perspective of someone who likes a bit of elbow room, but this looks too busy for me
You could’ve just got a laptop stand that allows you to plug the laptop in and then use the monitor as your main screen. There’s really no use for a movable laptop arm if you’re not going to be using the laptop when you’re at home. It looks like you just plug in the laptop and mirror it on your tv or widescreen monitor. I have a surface pro and I can use it as a third screen but I rather close it and then put it in a computer stand holding the laptop closed and plug my laptop into my two monitors via me surface dock. They use 2 MINI display ports to hdmi so I just have to plug in the power adapter for the surface dock and voila, my two 23” monitors come to life. The only downfall to my setup is that my work provided me with a small computer box and the only cables it’s got are an hdmi to hdmi and a display port to hdmi so I have to keep unplugging the monitors when I switch from my personal setup to my work setup. Either way, my setup is minimalistic. I use wireless keyboards on my personal setup as well as my work setup. I hate having wires but I have to ave the number keys on the right side. I can’t just use a smaller keyboard without the 10 key number keypad. I do a lot of spreadsheets at work and I work with numbers a lot as a statistician so I can type much faster with the number keypad vs the 10 row of keys at the top of the QWERTY keyboard.
you have a very calming voice :)
Or get a desktop instead of buying all that shit

I highly encourage you to use ShareMouse software instead.

You could actually ditch the laptop stand. I don't see the point of using a small laptop display when you have a big one in your office. I've seen other videos where the laptop is plugged through USB C in the monitor and it gets all the connections it needs (power delivery, video output, keyboard and mouse) which is usually accomplished with a built in USB hub on the display. I also don't see the point in using two separate keyboards and mice.
I love this.
Also i didnt even know there were things like a peripheral switcher

Thanks for video, nice done! May I know which arm are you using to hold your 43'' TV?
I thought that using tv like that is so bad for the eyes, unlike monitor they are meant to be used from a distance
I tried my LG6300 and the edges are curved and distorted and the bottom half of the task bar is missing. Couldn't fix it playing with settings. I opted instead to go with 2 Dell 2717H monitors at a good price. I think it may be related to how the XPS 13 deals with external video. and 16:9 aspect ratio is not the same as the internal screen, maybe? It works fine with my insignia 32" in game mode though. so Part of it is an LG issue. Not worth my time to fiddle with it. I know the LG is not in 1080 mode and thinks the signal is a 4K signal it is receiving which may have something to do with the XPS 13 seeing a 4K monitor (The machine is not a 4k machine its the XPS 13 i5 with 1080 sacreen).
