FAQ: CHECK HERE FIRST IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS: Hey everyone, since there are a lot of questions in the comments I'm gonna answer the most common ones here: Q: What software did you use for planning? A: I use Fusion 360 Q: What are the overall Dimensions of the Table? A: You can see them here (Units are Milimetres): i.imgur.com/Ua5wlwI.jpg Q: What Materials are needed? A: I've uploaded a bill of materials here: i.imgur.com/5z9OOXv.jpg Q: How much does it cost to make? A: It's hard to say exactly because steel and wood prices are vastly different depending on location and the world market. It also depends on which wood you use. But overall, probably somewhere around 300$ in raw materials, plus whatever gadgets you want to install (Lights, USB etc. not included in this estimate) Q: Why not height adjustable? A: It would have made the project a lot more complicated and expensive and I personally don't need it Q: Can you make/sell me one? How much? A: I appreciate the interest, but when asking this, people usually underestimate the amount of work hours it takes me to make somthing like this. Building things individually by hand as one person is many times more inefficient than mass production, so even if I only charged minimum wage for my work it would have to be extremely expensive if I want to make any profit. On top of that, the shipping cost for this would be very expensive too. Lastly, if I built things to order, I wouldn't have time to make videos anymore 😉 So I hope you understand I can't take orders for now - but I'm looking into ways of providing something like a build kit in the future, and I will post updates if things get more concrete. Q; How heavy is it? A: I didn't weigh it so I don't really know, but fully assembled it can be carried by two people relatively easily. I'm guessing it weighs somewhere around 50 Kilos (without the PC setup)
Overall, how heavy is the desk, legs excluded? I’m looking to adapt this design to a standing desk and want to ensure it can actually move without overloading the motor.
I have a question regarding height adjustability: Do you think, I could construct only the upper part of your build an mount it on a tabletop, which would sit on height adjustable feet? I think the weight distribution might be an issue.
could you not make a phone charger in the worktop itself if you make a hole on the underside of the desk and place a flat wireless charger under there and then cap it off with more wood and create a cable channel for it
I really love the design of this desk. I have been thinking of building one for myself as I have a new office now and am tired of a messy desk as well. Do you plan on offering any build plans for this desk or maybe offering the fusion 360 file or anything like that?

I love everything about this desk, from the materials, the aesthetic, to the modular functionality... it's absolutely gorgeous... when you said it only took 20 minutes to assemble at home, that's impressive, and a testament to the quality and well-thought out nature of the project. I love it.
Due to The fact that he designed it would lend to the 20 min assembly time, I would imagine. Not to take away from the design by any means. As my jobs revolves around creating assembly instructions for the general public, I have a bit of insight on this topic. There are often a lot of assumptions some of our designers make that often aren't expressed in the instructions. I've seen our test groups struggle with sections where joints should be flush but it's not mentioned and often leads to unnecessary discussion and therefor build time. Nice functional design. It also looks easily adaptable. If I would do this for myself I would for example make the bottom backplate (with the foam) slimmer so there would be a bit of gap between it and the table surface for an LED strip, which would illuminate the ports for clear visibility (I would have a minimum of 5, I already have an I/O grommet like that icy box, a Qi charger, and a power strip, I would probably put my microphone USB interface and a hard drive dock in there too), so I wouldn't exclusively need to rely on the single top-down lighting for illumination, as it could be easily obstructed. With my current custom desk I have a vertical board in the center to which my monitor mounts and I have a single passthrough hole for cable routing, I really like the horizontal rail design you have, it looks more functional.
@@Tonyplat98 If you already had custom furniture you'd know that serious considerations have to be made before committing yourself to making one, otherwise you end up with (your domestic equivalent of) hundreds of dollars wasted on something you end up disliking for one or several reasons, if you failed to consider something that only becomes apparent through actual use... Therefore brainstorming on such ideas is the first step!
Suggestion: At 23:25, where you commented that people might complain about wires getting cut due to rubbing on the edge of the hole cut into the frame, you could always get plastic or rubber grommets to protect the wires. You could even cut pieces of PVC tubing to fit into the holes, which gives you the added benefit of knowing the wires will come out the other end without needing to be fished out. (yes, this is a minor issue not likely to happen on thin tubes of the frame.) But, I don't think it's necessary, since the desk isn't likely to flex and move a lot while assembled and in use. The chances of the wires being cut into are minimal. However, using grommets will give that "attention to detail" look for pennies. I do like the desk. I'm glad you used those stick-on cable channels for your low voltage data cables, like USB. I was worried when you only had the one basket to run your cables. You don't want to run low voltage data cables alongside the high voltage power cables (I'm guessing 240 VAC.) The power cables will induce a current into the data cables causing problems and possible device failures.
I wish we had something as modular and dope looking as this available to the market, anyways great work that's really well thought and seems to be very functionnal !
100%! I have 0 DIY skills and 0 tools to make something like this, but would love to buy something similar for my setup. It looks so stylish and fits right in with my decor.
This was an incredibly detailed, and good looking build. I like the ideas you've used for the cable management channel and how versatile it is. I think my favourite feature is the dedicated cat corner though haha!
The feeling of accomplishment after taking on and fully smashing this task out of the park has to feel so good. At first glance as you start the video you just think that it's a "fairly simple desk" and then you get the full rundown of how DIY it is and how thought out and meticulous / tedious it was to build and all the different materials that come together to create such a marvel of a desk! Solid job man. After finishing the video I must say it would be a very cool / likely helpful thing if you 3D printed new headset holders but add some magnets inside of them, I'm sure since making this video you have realized or experienced the odds of them slipping off unless you got the slip fit just right/tight!
"At least it's not epoxy" I laughed out loud at that one. Well thought out design and a great build. Loved the humor. As soon as I saw you use the welding table for gluing, I said, he needs to put something underneath the wood. I throughly enjoyed all of this!
Really love the thoughtfulness that went into building the monitor stand and cable management. These are all standard needs that everyone have and its appalling that desk makers are not thinking about these!
I always watch videos like this in pure admiration, knowing that while I would love to believe that I could do this, I simply don't have this level of patience. Well done man, this is an awesome desk!
Man, I just love that table. Hands down the coolest and usable table I have ever seen! I only wish I had half the craftsmanship that you do, in order to make my own. Well done mate, well done!
@@Tonyplat98 Exactly, i don't have half the stuff he used, and i've only MIG welded years ago, never TIG as he is. So i'll just sit back and enjoy his work instead. :)
Definite tip on having the mains strips sat in the back, wire up a plug with just an earth wire, bolt that earth wire to the metal frame and plug it in to the strip - that way if you do get a short from a crap cable, it stands a better chance of cutting the power. I think you can also get under-desk mains strips with their own earth tails. Definitely more fun than having a hot desk.
Man! This is just simply a great thought out build! I usually watch these videos to see what most builders are doing wrong or leaving out. But you have left no stone unturned on this build! Even the ease of arrangement and order of this desk is perfect! I wish the 'expert' desk makers would make something this good! I'd buy a desk like this yesterday!
Dude. This desk is AMAZING. I love how much thought and dedication went in to making it. I want to build a custom desk of my own, it's just a matter of planning one out, and saving the funds for it.
While this doesn't look easy, you still manage to make someone like me with no experience in this space at all, want to give it a try. Great video and storytelling with just the right amount of details!
I come back to watch this video every few months, your planning and extensive detailing on the desk is really easy to follow and it just lets the video fly by. Great work and looking forward to your next build!
This is awesome, and exactly how I'd want a desk. I love how clean and professional it looks, and the wireless look makes things look so much nicer. And if you're in the mood for the gamer look you can switch the colors of the lights and it still ends up looking professional but with a more relaxed theme Also, that welding table is beautiful. I only tried welding once, but if I had access to one like that you bet I'd be trying to learn more haha
"I like welding a lot more than I do woodworking." is not a phrase you hear everyday. Really neat project, super impressed with the end result. Looks like something you'd buy not a DIY project.
I haven't started my welding practice yet, but I can totally agree with that, and I enjoy building things in wood 🤷♂️ I love the possibilities, simplicity and strength in metal fabrication projects.
Yea everything seems to have a function. Even not protecting the LED wires because it wasnt necessary. I dont think its over engineered, just high quality.
Your video was a source of inspiration for my own build. I was able to create the perfect desk for my needs thanks to you. My desk is all wood with a modular backboard/shelf. Painted it all black and sanded down the corners and surface. Came out perfect for mẹ. I run 3 monitors and one Huion drawing monitor. Thats a total of 4 working monitors for my dream workspace. I installed an industrial outlet strip that has 10 outlets, let mẹ tell you. Its a beast. I recently added a slide out keyboard tray under the table with adjustable angles. One of my proudest projects, and I credit you man.
This is the most practical desk I've seen, I'm in the process of very slowly building mine, I have ideas but I have 0 tools (also almost 0 skills). So your video is helping a lot because I can visualize better what I want and need to do to achieve that. Your idea for fixing the screen is nice and helpful. I drew something similar on paper with the idea that I can slide my monitors (2 maybe 3) in front of me using a bearings/wheels system fixed on the desk depending on which monitor I need, gaming one or graphic/photography/video one. For your integrated cable management compartment, couldn't you fix a long power strip inside so it's easier to use? I found a 12x strip on Amazon, very good quality. That foam board is nice too, I did the same thing with a loose board that is threatening to fall and kill me 😂 Very elegant desk. Truly. I would have bought one. Subbed. Edit: also your welding table is absolutely gorgeous!
@@RiseOfAnarchism impossible, I live in an apartment so I'm building with wood and screws. Every time I add a little thing that helps me comfort, big plate that I sanded and varnished, trestles with enough place so I can put my PCs, printers and hard drives under, next step is the back upper plate that's gonna have some sound dampening foam (if it's any good) and lighting. Step after is gonna be thinking about a mechanism to slide my screens. It takes a lot of time and thinking.
Finally, RUclips recommended me to watch something that I actually enjoyed without realising it was something I could spend a little over 30 minutes indulging in. Really nice craftsman work. You've very skilled at what you do, and have made me wish I progressed woodwork further back when I was in highschool.
This is one of the most (of not THE MOST) satisfying building vids I’ve ever watched. The attention to detail, the meticulousness, and world class craftsmen-ship was unmatched! Bravo!
I love it! I love the desk so much, everything about it ❤️. And I love how you made a story of making it! For the cableless perfection - just maybe - instead of having that charger on the desk, you could had one of those flat circle shaped, and drill a shape so you can fit it in, being flat with the table (and cable going underneath). Or even drill all underneath, just leaving enough thick (thin) wood on the top, so that current can run through (and draw few lines on top - where to put your phone).
phenomenally clean setup. Makes me want to learn how to weld. The only thing that bugged me was that the speakers could be positioned/angled better to optimize the listening experience. But that may also take away from the beautiful aesthetic he accomplished.
Phil you have to be careful, if you keep making such wonderful projects you may steal Marco’s spot in my heart as the #1 ambiguously European RUclips machinist!
I actually just built my own desk pretty much just like yours, metal, wood, layout and all, but without the back, the shelf, and the cable management, which I am now realizing is actually a pretty good idea
This is incredible, I definitely want to make something like this when I'm able to (and have the space and funds to do it). Thank you for documenting this so meticulously and making the plans available (since I'd like to add/change a few things for myself).
I've just added this to my reference video playlist. It's a great base for expansions into a durable workbench, a heavier duty conference table or even a long bar table against your dining wall. Super good ideas with the adjustable mounting positions of the monitors and speakers, and your simple track system could be adapted to mount pretty much anything to the back wall of a desk.
Hell yeah, I have been waiting to re-build/design my desk for when I finally start learning how to weld, which that time has come. Slick build man. Curious, where do you have this fancy workshop if you are always moving apartments?
Forgot to add this to my playlists when I saw this like a year ago and searched "Desk weld project" and it was like the 6th video thankfully 😭 omg so happy I found it
Your hinge idea for the cable compartment is brilliant, the amount of computers I have installed in stationary desks it would have made life so much easier.
KUDOS! This is what a fine desk should be. Clean, quality construction. No gimmicks or glue board splinters. Reminds me of a Chronolux watch. LMK if you every produce for customers.
After 2 years spent building a mobile gaming studio which is unfinished. I just wanted to play some COD!. So I found myself in a fold out lawn chair. I have had cheap office chairs in the past and 3-5 hundred dollar chairs since. However like you im big 6'5" tall 220-240 lbs and no matter what I buy the wheels always blow out first. Thanks for all the detailed feedback on your office chair. I will definitely use this info when building my new chair!
So i clicked on the video thinking it was just some super crazy cable management, and i wasn't wrong but when i saw "how to Build" i don't think i was prepared to actually "Build" it. Amazing video!
Giving a sub and like because this is almost exactly what I had in mind a few years back before I bought motorized tables instead. The gap in the middle for omni-mounting accessories is pure ingenuity on your part - my original thought was simply just using a wood board and bolting a wall bracket for a screen on. Other differences: 1) I wouldn't have gone for the integrated cable grommets and hubs; instead I had wanted to do undertable mounted powered USB hub near the front edge so that there's no need to reach into the back to plug in stuff. 2) I had planned for 2020 aluminium profile since I can't do welding (no workshop and residential electrical outlets are current limited). 3) I would had wanted to do gap on the rear cable cover and put a long brush strip instead (something like the brush guards placed below doors to prevent insects from coming in) instead of cable grommets. 4) Keyboard tray so that the table top is kept clear for other stuff (reading/ writing/ snacks & beverages). 5) An under desk mounted short height slide out drawer or tray - useful for keeping stuff like pens/ pencils/ rulers etc.
I am never going to make something like this, yet I cannot tear myself away from watching this video. It's just beautiful, the way it comes together at the end.
WOOOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing!, I'm speechless. this design is so clean, neat, and practical. I think I'll give someone this plan and he will built-it for me. Thank you!
Amazing video, thank you for posting this. I am not a welder, but I do frequently work with wood and will be making a wooden studio desk based on your design in this video.
Awesome idea and awesome implementation of it. Watched the video start to finish eating it up with my eyes. While I can't built stuff I think I can make a drawing of my own ideas and have them made by pros. Very inspiring. Thank you.
WOW. just amazing, 40 minutes to show how amazing the desk looks in the end. I really like the the overhead lights and hidden cable tray, really great job mate. Keep up the good work, deserves a subscription.

It would also be really easy to design and 3d print a flexible TPU fitting.
bruuuuuh. I want one. This setup will totally be a winner for TechSource Setup Wars
@@arriitv1716 same here.
There is a very similar desk although without the cable tray on ikea
@@ben6085 Cant seem to find it in the UK! Do you have the name of it?
@@ben6085 know the product name?
This was an incredibly detailed, and good looking build. I like the ideas you've used for the cable management channel and how versatile it is. I think my favourite feature is the dedicated cat corner though haha!
which software is he using
The feeling of accomplishment after taking on and fully smashing this task out of the park has to feel so good.
I throughly enjoyed all of this!
please make this a series! Hands down the best desk setup and process i’ve watched since 2020 🥺 Awesome work Phill!!
Really love the thoughtfulness that went into building the monitor stand and cable management. These are all standard needs that everyone have and its appalling that desk makers are not thinking about these!
Only six minutes in and had to pause just to come down here and say it is a joy to watch you bring your idea into reality.
Thank you for sharing!
Well done mate, well done!
all you need's a work shop but I get that not everyone has a garage with a workshop in it.
You did a great job on this. As a retired fabricator, I can apprieciate the meticulate detail this biult took.
And if you're in the mood for the gamer look you can switch the colors of the lights and it still ends up looking professional but with a more relaxed theme
Also, that welding table is beautiful.
As someone who has done some welding and woodworking I can agree that I prefer welding over woodworking
@@rad8078 I find welding to be technically more difficult, but its cool to see that some people find the process to be more enjoyable than I do.
As always, beautifully over engineered Phil. You deserve many more subs.
This project desk does not seem overengineered when compared to the non-consumer grade office desks it appears to be inspired by
Yea everything seems to have a function.
That foam board is nice too, I did the same thing with a loose board that is threatening to fall and kill me 😂
Very elegant desk. Truly. I would have bought one.
Subbed.
Edit: also your welding table is absolutely gorgeous!
With 0 tools and 0 skill you gonna need a lot of patience :)
If you're trying to weld a desk like he is I'd suggest buying a decent amount of scrap metal and practicing your welds
Bravo!
You my friend take the win for every desk build in RUclips! Real definition of diy! Great video great work!
This looks amazing! If I ever get the money, I would love to get the right tools and take on a project like this myself!
Linus from Linus Tech Tips, did this on a desk build one time, works really well.
@@davidnichols1192 Linus is never wrong 😊
I don’t care the cost, I would seriously buy one. This desk is amazing
Bro this is the end game desk this is insane when I thought you hadn’t thought of everything bam you add something!!!
As a welder and wood worker and gamer, this is truly awesome! The attention to detail for a desk is incredible. Well done!
phenomenally clean setup.
"ambiguously European RUclips machinist", now there's an idea for a Channel name. Maybe I should change mine 🤔
What a great design! There are definitely some take-aways that I can incorporate to my office desk to clear the clutter. Thank you!
Me watching this whole thing: "I need to learn how to weld..."
I freaking love this desk. I wish I had the skills to do this.
Bravo on the design. You've some mad talent for designing and making things. Love the oak tabletop. Nice!
Such a beautiful desk build. Would love to build a similar setup someday!
You could also mount a camera onto the rail, where the monitor is mounted
Purely amazing and inspiring! I love this! The concept and thought put into this desk is amazing
This desk and set up are insane, I've always wanted to learn to weld and this is just not helping that itch haha great stuff man
Hell yeah, I have been waiting to re-build/design my desk for when I finally start learning how to weld, which that time has come. Slick build man. Curious, where do you have this fancy workshop if you are always moving apartments?
0 rgb show, full clean setup. Loved the minimalistic approach and also the though process behind everything. The CPU underneath is a very good option
Let's take the moment to appreciate how effort he puts into the content for us
😂 this isn’t content it’s a ad trying to get you to buy the instructions
@@W2ESE nah bro inspiring people to clean there desk
@@W2ESE yeah no, ads don't last half an hour, at that point it's already content
I'd love to build one similar to this. Do you have a material cost breakdown for this project ?
The plans are not expensive and cover all that 🙂
My brother is a metal fabricator, I don't know why I didn't think of something like this earlier. Such a dope design man! Super thought out
Love the use of the hard drive magnets at 25:30. Never thought about using them like that on corners, but definitely will now!
Forgot to add this to my playlists when I saw this like a year ago and searched "Desk weld project" and it was like the 6th video thankfully 😭 omg so happy I found it
Your hinge idea for the cable compartment is brilliant, the amount of computers I have installed in stationary desks it would have made life so much easier.
that was hugely satisfying to watch
I mean THE WHOLE PROCESS
Customization at it's best
kudos to you sir
This is just pure raw talent. I have never seen any video like this before on RUclips
What a great job! I love how meticulous, precise and detailed every part of the process was!
Other differences:
1) I wouldn't have gone for the integrated cable grommets and hubs; instead I had wanted to do undertable mounted powered USB hub near the front edge so that there's no need to reach into the back to plug in stuff.
Thank you. This gave me a great idea to make boards to fit a centimeter from the wall to wire all cables behind.
every detail is carefully thought, and it came out perfectly and i would choose it too at any given time. i love it alot.
This is really awsome. Probably one of the smartest piece of furniture ever build!
Philippines Here: so much interesting the detail so much impressive, simple but elegant...you deserve all this...more video's to watch...
Apart from the angle of the speakers, I'd rate this build a 10/10!
Awesome idea and awesome implementation of it. Watched the video start to finish eating it up with my eyes. While I can't built stuff I think I can make a drawing of my own ideas and have them made by pros. Very inspiring. Thank you.
you thought of everything.. you went detailed .. i have a lot to say but im just gonna say you have my respect, really, this is insane.
WOW. just amazing, 40 minutes to show how amazing the desk looks in the end. I really like the the overhead lights and hidden cable tray, really great job mate. Keep up the good work, deserves a subscription.
