In today's video I compare the 50mm lens on the speed booster vs the Canon lens adapter along with an example of it in 4K. Some people think that off-brand stuff isn’t worth buying over first party products and that the crop rate in 4K is pretty bad. I will show you examples of the speed booster at work along with a comparison between it and the Canon lens adapter.

The "speed" in the term "speed booster" actually refers to the fact that you are increasing the amount of light coming into the lens, and getting to the sensor (when you add the speed booster). This fakes having a wider lens aperture, and makes the lens 'faster'. And yes, another advantage is that the booster reduces the crop of a full frame lens.
The *main* advantage in creating this 'faster' lens is that having more light coming into the camera (and getting to the sensor) means that you can do things like using a faster shutter speed (if you were shooting subjects that you wanted to freeze the motion of), or you could set your ISO rating to a lower number, thereby reducing the potential 'grain' (grittiness/'noise') created in a picture or in video.
Love this video, it was exactly what I was looking for and you answered ALL my questions. You have a really soothing voice too (not the high pitch voices you tend to hear on youtube which usually can be SO irritating) Thanks a million. I really appreciate this video :)
Thank you for the kind words :) I didn't know my voice was soothing haha. happy this video helped you!
Best explained than other videos!
Glad you think so!
Bruh you explained this so much better than most these big youtubers bro. Keep it up man you really helped me 🙏🏿❤️
I appreciate that! Makes my day to get these compliments!
He explained so well i didn’t want the video to end
Hi, what about the auto-focus function? Are there any problems faced using the speed booster? Some say autofocus will not be supported by the speed booster or slow etc.
Amazing video man!! You answered all of my questions. And keep up the good work! can't wait to watch the rest of your videos. I just started vlogging and I have an M50 with regular kit lens. Im thinking of getting a ND Lens filter with a variable to manually adjust the lighting and another lens other than the kit lens which was the 50mm but I didn't know if the speed booster needed another adapter on it for the 50mm and you answered that, not only does the speed booster not need an additional adapter for the 50mm but I don't need that adapter for nothing. Thanks so much! I did all that math over in my notes too! Thanks bro. I liked and subbed.
You May still keep the adapter if you want to use the 50mm as a 80mm lens instead of a 57mm lens. Sometimes the "zoom" or higher focal length May be useful.
Thanks for your nice videos, I have a question, regards to investing on lenses for M50 M2, you recommend to buy Viltrox with EF lenses or go with EF-M lenses merely?
great video, Thanks, I got a question. does the micro four third lens and sensors crop the image? or they give you exactly what they are. for example, The 24mm micro43 lens it will stay as a 24mm lens on a M43 sensor? or it will be multiplied or cropped? Also another example, if I use the same 24mm but with canon ef mount lens convert with a speed booster on m43 sensors it will give me something different than the original 24mm m43 mount?
@freeley how did you find the auto focus ?
id really like to get something wide , with auto focus , just for filming /point and shoot etc when on the move ....
any suggestions? i was thinking doing the speedboster with a canon 22. which would bet me around 25.... not too bad.
or you think should go with something made/fit for the m50
Thanks for the good video! How does the video AF noise sound at M50 + speed booster + 50mm 1.8 stm?
Is there any difference between not using the speed booster? Are you uncomfortable with shooting?
Tell me what you need most
You can hear the AF noise in the video and it's pretty much the same if you use it on the Canon lens adapter vs the speed booster.
Worth mentioning that 4k drops dual pix autofocus, hence the heavy breathing of the AF. stick with hd or make 4k with manual focus. Great vid.
Hi i have cenon M50 camera, so please guide us EF_50 F1.8 lens is good for portrait photography, with adapter, also is is possible to group photography with same lens(EF_50 F1.8 is good or EF_50 to 250 STM lens is good)
Thanks for clearing that out, truly appreciated 👍🏻
Happy to help!
Super helpful bro! Thanks for the info!👌
Hey you sold me on getting both of these items for my m50!!! so thank you!! One question I have, today was the very first day that I got that flashing, which you also seemed to experience in this video. Do you have any idea what that is? I looked it up immidiatly because i thought my camera was breaking. couldnt find anything about it.
honestly im not too sure. It could be the camera reacting to the connection between the adapter and the lens but yeah its weird

@freeley Is this combo as good as, or better than the original M 22 mm f2 for pictures? Im thinking about to buy the fix 22, but i already have my fix 50 mm 1,8 EF lens. It means real ~ 35 mm f2 vs. real 57 mm f 1,? on APSC sensor?
This is super informative. I think when I get my adapter it will actually be perfect for using my old 20mm when live chatting🤘🏽
💥💥💥💥💥Bro please reply 💥💥💥💥💥💥
Does the eye tracking autofocus work with viltrox speed booster or regular adapter ?
Wow!!! I've watched so many videos regarding focal length/speed booster especially Viltrox and you explained it with Perfection!🙌
You should teach a Photography Class!
Thank you for sharing your content. 😁
Awesome I'm glad it helped! thanks for watching!
Great vid and been watching a lot since getting the m50. So the question is since i record all my vids in 4k with the kit lenses will this speed booster do anything out of the ordinary? Will it not crop with the Speed booster
Yes it will still crop. If you've been filming in 4K with the kit lens, then the speed booster will add a crop.
Thank you! I have two original lenses for M50. Is it possible use those with speedbooster? What about autofocus? Or I must attach to speedbuster only EF OR EF-S lens.
Only Ef works with the speedbooster
Great video.. Just a question.. What happens to zoom if I put 300mm lens on Viltrox SB? Am I gonna loose zoom?
If you put a 300mm zoom on the viltrox it'll be 300 * 1.6 = 480mm native equivalent. But then you multiply by the 0.76x from the viltrox: 0.76 * 480 = 364.8 or 364mm. So 300mm zoom + viltrox = 364mm.
Thanks for this great video! It explained what I was looking for!
Great to hear! Glad it was helpful!
well explanation.. done subscribe... 👏🏻
what do you think which is better... efm 32mm 1.4 or ef 50mm 1.8 STM + viltrox speedbooster... ?
Depends on what you're looking for focal length wise. Are you looking to shoot portraits? The 50mm + viltrox speed booster will put you at roughly 58mm after the crop multipliers which is pretty good. If you're looking for a more wide focal length then the 32mm will be good.
Love your content! You’re very well spoken and straight to the point. Stay motivated you have so much potential.

Much appreciated! Thank you for the support! 🙏🙌
What about the canon m50 with Tamron 15-30 F2,8 and Speed booster. No one is talking in this lens and I think it is a very good lens for the m50.
Your video looks super sharp. Which picture profile did you use? Auto or did you build your own custom one? I'm trying to figure out if I should desharpen what the camera is shooting and sharpen it later or let the camera do some of that work in the moment.
I use the auto picture profile!
Great explanation! Greetings from Germany and stay healthy.
thank you! great to hear from Germany! stay healthy also
Yo! Loving your content man. Keep it up! :)
Glad you enjoy it! Cheers!
Informative content mate. I shoot with M50 only as my primary camera on my channel during my Cinematic travel vlogs. It's an amazing camera. Keep it going mate.
That's awesome! just watched your latest vlog and it was sick! keep on going!
@@freeleymedia Thanks so much brother.. 🤜🤛 Cheers!!
what happens if you put the kit lens and the viltrox speed booster? does it make the shot wide for vlogging or content creating?? really keen in buying the m 50 mark 2 but dont want to buy more lenses.
You cannot bec kitlen is already ef-m. Adapters comes in if you wanted other lens like ef, efs rf etc. Even from other brands.
Very well explained !
Nice! really worth watching 👍🏽Thanks
Thanks for watching!
You really explain well. I have Tamron AF 70-300 mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro lens for Canon DSLR. Can I put this lens on Viltrox EF-EOS M2 0.7x AF mount adapter on Canon M50 camera?
Yes
Freeley, thoughts on the 50mm speedboosted vs sigma 30mm on the m50?
Honestly, both are great options. Depending on the type of photos you wanna take, the 50mm is gonna be great for portraits especially if you have the f/1.8 version. The Sigma 30mm is also a great choice since it's wide.
What lenses do you recommend for general vlogging? I have the 15-45mm kit. I’m thinking about getting the sigma 16mm 1.4. Later on I think I’ll get the speed booster and a 50mm
I've been using the 15-45mm since the beginning but the 16mm 1.4 is really good choice. The bokeh on that lens is gonna be insaneee for vlogging. I think the 50mm might be a little tight for vlogging tho
freeley Oh I meant to say I want to use the 50mm for photos. Thanks for the response!
I figured :) it's a great portrait lens! Thanks for your comment!
How far approx. do you have to be from your camera using the 50mm + speed booster for a portrait shot that includes your chest and up? At 1080p
I would say 3-5 feet
Thanks for the video! I was either going to get the sigma 30mm or the speedbooster w/ the nifty and I am happy with the nifty 50, However I have noticed some noise in the video. What ISO are you using?
I don't remember at the moment but I'll get back to you!
The sigma lens are dope
the ISO i use is anywhere from 400-100. in this situation it was probably 200
💯💯
Good video! You forgot to add that with the speedbooster you get an extra stop of light.
Yup! I forgot to mention that😂 I'll make sure to mention it in a follow up video
hey bro I love your channel and I picked the m50 up last friday and I love it so far! I really wanna do music videos and stuff and im thinking of getting the speedbooster, what kind of lenses should i be getting? thanks! love all the quality content man keep it up
That depends on you! If you want a very versatile lens you can use in a lot of different situations, go for the sigma 24-105mm. The 'nifty 50mm' is a great start. Depending on your budget, you can also go for the 70-200mm f/2.8 to get those really close up shots with the blurry background! I'm in the process of making a video talking about all the lenses i mentioned. Stay tuned!
freeley thank you man! i’m excited to see more of your videos!
appreciate the support!
Great explanation.
glad it helped
You explained thing's really good and simple way. You are Awesome 🙌
exactly what I was aiming for! glad it helped!
@@freeleymedia I am watching from India🇮🇳.. Lot's of love and respect Brother ❤️
great explanation cause i was tryna see if it was worth it but definitely is now!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks, awesome explanation.
Glad it was helpful!
great explanation, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Hey mate good video! Just a quick question I saw a video that said the viltrox speedboster breaks pretty fast with the pins and also it crashes some camera processors, have u ever experienced this or do u believe this to be true? Thanks!
I've had it for 9 months now and I haven't noticed the pins going bad yet. As for crashing camera processors, it has never happened to me. It could be maybe the older version of the speed booster? You can do an update on the speed booster to get the latest software for it
@@freeleymedia Thanks for the reply man! Keep up the good work on the channel hope to see your channel grow bigger!
no problem! If you have any more questions or video ideas I can make lmk!
Hello,I'm a beginner. I got an speed booster and one sigma17-70mm lens and put them together, the footage vignetting. If I wanna keep the lens, how can I do
When you say vignetting do you mean the camera lens barrel? If so, I would zoom in the lens slightly so you dont see it
Hi! Does it work on youngnuo 50mm lens? Thanks!🤗
Yes, absolutely
can you review the viltrox ef to efm lens adaptor non speedbooster version
keep up the great work
Will write down your idea! thanks for watching!
Really informative.. You got sub dude.
Appreciate it!
I was planning to buy M50. But i dont know if i will just buy the body and buy viltrox sb and 50mm or get the kit lens?
That's up to you! If you plan on taking portraits the 50mm is a great lens for that. It's also a great lens in general so you can't really go wrong with it!
which adapter should I buy for my brand new M50 mark ii......???
I would recommend the viltrox!
Does viltrox speed booster works on Canon EF 50mm f1.8 "STM" also with Yongnuo 50mm f1.8?
I think as long as it's a EF mount lens it will work
I have canon M50 mark 2 and speed booster with 50mm 1.8 lense.. whenever Im trying to click picture it shows 35mm and every time my picture got blurry
Thanks man!!
You bet!
Great video! Thanks!
how many bitrate you upload your video brother? anyway you have nice content here. 💪
Great review thank you
Very welcome
This viltrox speedboster supposed to increase the aperture from f1.8 to f1.2 right?
I forgot to mention it in the video but yes, it does
Hey man,
Can you make a video using canon m50+ viltrox speed booster+ ef 85mm f1.8?
That would be great..
Please reply
Just added it to my list!
Is there a wider lense to use with this speed booster?
Yes you can use the sigma 24-70mm which is a decent range. Basically any EF mount lens can be used on this
Do Sigma lenses connect with the speed boosters like maybe a 16m 1.4?
it will only adapt Canon EF lenses. The Sigma lens you mentioned probably won't since it's a Sony E mount but I'm not totally sure since I can't try it out myself
Sir can we use viltrox speed booster in canon eos sl3 camera body?
I think it's only compatible on the EOS-M cameras
Hey mate, when using the 50mm with viltrox, does the autofocus on canon m50 still works?
Yes it still works
@@freeleymedia Thanks!
This is a great explanation video with visible comparison between the two, excellent job! I’m just mad because the adapter is more expensive than the lens itself lol.
Glad it was helpful! Yeah, the adapter can be pretty pricey but if that's the price to pay so you don't need to re-purchase your entire collection of lenses, why not? 😅
Need to save up for a Viltrox Speed booster! 🙏 Great video!
You got this!
Sigma 30 mm 1.4 or 50mm with viltrox speed booster adapter? Are there any differences?
you will lose a little of sharpness with speedbooster . . . . . i have the 50 mm and i will get the 30mm instead the speedbooster :S
Nice video man
Thanks!
Great explanations!!
If you have it, I'd like to see a Sigma 16mm EF on the speed booster.
Noted!
Meant to ask for a Sigma EF 16mm + speed booster vs Sigma EF-M 16mm. How would the M50 handle this? It would be super interesting.
Hi! I just got my viltrox speed booster yesterday!😍 I have a question. What’s the difference between this model and the new model M2 ||? I have watched reviews on it and they said that the new version fixed the problems of the old version M2. How’s the version you have getting on so far?☺️
According to the amazon listing it looks like the M2 II is an EF to Micro 4/3rd adapter so it's adapting a different mount. But so far I'm coming up on a year of owning it and it's still working great! I particularly love using it with the 50mm 1.8 because I can get that really blurry background bokeh. It's just a great tool to use haha
freeley I just got mine yesterday! We have the same set up! Hahaha! I really love it . I hope it will last me a long time just like my 50mm f1.8 youngnuo that I have for years now and it still works perfectly. It would be nice to invest on the expensive version but it’s just to expensive for me and the third party just does the job anyway. I guess it’s just personal preference. Overall I’m happy! 🤞🏻 the speed booster last long. Hahaha! 😉
freeley btw have you updated your speed bosster firmware? I have watched a couple of videos about it. I have updated mine as soon as I got it yesterday but I’m not sure if it updated. Hopefully it did. Hahhaa
freeley btw thanks for responding to all my queries!😉❤️
Hey it works and produces the same photos so I don't see the issue! haha I love the images a 50mm 1.8 produces. Yes, I updated mine also shortly after I got it. Supposedly it was an update that prevented the speed booster from draining battery while it's connected to your camera. I don't really notice a difference since it's been like this from day one for me. Of course! I really appreciate your questions!
I bought the 50mm but I keep getting this super loud noise whenever it focuses. Do you get the same noise?
It's coming from the mic right? If so it's the lens' autofocus. It's known to be a little noisy
Nice vid!!! Its not much but I'll give you a sub... Also, whst lens fid you used at the begining of the vid?
..... 15-45... Ha... I should have finished the video first , lol
Hahaha it's all good!
bro I have canon ef 70-300 mm lens and my camera is canon m50 should I use a adapter?????
yes if it's the EF 70-300mm you need an adapter
It is compatible to canon 50mm 1.4 usm and canon 70-200 2.8 version ??
yes as long as it's a Canon EF lens, it will work
Great video!!!
Thank you!!
but from those 50 and 80 mm video samples what i have found is the image quality is better in 80mm
You have that potential..keep it up..
Appreciate it!
self-vloggin with 80/57 mm is a waste of time. you could have shown some portrait or photography with the speedbooster, like how's the image quality compared to the adapter, how's the sharpness, what's the vignetting etc.
Fuck all the way off, go watch some other boring video about photography this is more for video makers and to test low light comparing with the regular efm - ef mount vs a speed booster. Original op did a good job. You need some love. Some help getting that stick out of your ass.
Nc video man, people must know when use speedbooster more and when use normal adapter more.. that speedbooster only for EF lens, so when we want to use the beauty of sigma 18-35mm 1.8, use normal adapter or we need to zoom in until the vignette gone 😁
true! both have their pros and cons
what abouyt image quality? there is extra glass in the end, it should reduce sharpness etc at corners especially...
I don't really notice a drop in image quality but I might be able to do more tests to see if it does
Can you or anyone in the comments explain how you know to X by .71?
has someone tested the speedbooster with a Yongnuo 50mm lens?
Thanks... You are awesome. Subcribed
thank you!
will the viltrox speedbooster work with my canon eos550d with a 50mm canon mark 1 lens??
You wouldn't need the speed booster to adapt it to your canon eos550d. The speed booster I mentioned in the video is made for the Canon mirrorless camera line like the m50, m6 etc
@@freeleymedia but will it be possible to mount it on my eos550d im sorry im new to photography and want to make my crop sensor have a wider shot
I don't think so. The speed booster mount is only compatible with the M50, M6, M5 etc.
and what about kit lens with speed booster is it compatiable or not😍😍😍😍😍
No, it's not compatible. It only accepts EF mount lenses and the kit lens is a M mount
Very good 👍
Thank you 👍
What laptop do you have? And have you been playing warzone?
I have a MacBook pro mid 2014 15" retina display. No, I haven't. Have you?
I would love to see a low-light test.
Bro I stucked it. How can I removed it? Please reply thank you
Make sure you are pulling that slider that releases the lens from the adapter
@@freeleymedia thankssss.
If I'm not mistaken, the math is actually the reverse: cropped_focal_length = 35mm_focal_length / crop_factor (divide not multiply). So a 50mm would go down as 50mm/1.6 = 31mm
Thanks very much! This was the perfect video for me because I'm thinking of buying an EOS-M and got some EF lenses already - like the 50mm/1.8. So I will give the Spped Booster a try ... but more interesting: Your video quality with the kit lens is great - so maybe I will not need to fiddle around with other lenses for my first shots... very good video, like! Thanks a lot! Stefan
Yeah, I'm not doing very much post editing to the video either. It's a pretty standard setup. Great to hear! Let me know how it goes!
👏 good job
Thanks 😅
The camera making that noise trying to keep you if focus gave me so much anxiety
Yeah its not the most relaxing noise...
Can i optimise 18-400 tamron lens with speedbooster on M50..?
Yes you can. It would up being a 22mm with the speed booster
Thnx😊
The M50 already takes good pictures yet the speed booster is a big PLUS !!! 👌 👌 👌 More light and stablity in pic.s quality ! I use a CPL on my lens and Knocking it out the park with this lens !!! 👌
I used mines with the fuji xt4 and sometimes it does not work,
Is it showing the F00?
It would be nice if you had explained 50 MM lens use...
50mm is really great for portrait photography
How is m50 for photography with 50 mm 1.8 ??or should i consider nikon z50??
M50 + 50mm is a great combo! I would also suggest getting the viltrox speedbooster
@@freeleymedia thank u soo much bro..
im happy to help!
@@freeleymedia Is this combo as good as, or better than the original M 22 mm f2 for pictures? Im thinking about to buy the fix 22, but i already have my fix 50 mm 1,8 EF lens. It means real ~ 30 mm f2 vs. real 50 mm f 1 on APSC sensor?
And what about EF-s lenses? Cannot mount?
