Ok, this is how I ended up getting a Speedbooster, and I think many people in the “enthusiasts on a budget” category can relate to my case. You get a cheap but reasonably capable body like M50 to have some money left for reasonably priced primes. Obvious choice is 22mm f2 and nifty 50 with an adapter. Get them second hand, and you can enjoy prime lens goodness for a very reasonable price. 22mm (35mm equivalent) for “street”, and 50mm (80mm equivalent) for family portraits you can be proud of. After some time, though, you really want that standard focal length, 50mm equivalent, but zoom lens that you get with the body never quite gets you the result you desire. The problem is, there is no really cheap option for 35mm or 32mm prime whether it’s M, EF or EF-S. If you are on a budget, the only viable option is to get a Speedbooster to pair with the 50mm 1.8 you already have to get about 55mm equivalent prime. Even if you use the speedbooster only for that lens, it is still much cheaper than getting any 35mm prime-unless you go for a cheap manual focus only lens. Of course, the fact that you own an M50 means you are ready to sacrifice some “quality” anyway for the fun of shooting primes for a budget price, so you are not too bothered by softening at the edges and all that-image with a speed booster is still better than kit zoom anyway. So, with 22mm f2, Speedboosted 50mm f1.8, and adapted same 50mm 1.8, you finally have all the basic primes covered and you can be happy for some time.
That’s an interesting point of view. Again, I don’t judge anyone sure in your example, it sort of makes sense from a photography point of view. There is still one single cheap option for a 35mm f2 from yongnuo. It’s a ripoff from the old canon 35mm f2, with that same plastic body and noisy AF but then what can you get from a lens that cost less than 100$.
What a fantastic comment to add to this great video. Thanks for even more clarity. And I have the same camera lenses and adapters. I guess it's a common scenario. With canon m50 and the right cheap lenses, you can take professional video and photos. Of course you need skill and there are effects that you can not get in very low light, along with obvious limitations due to not having a couple of good zoom lenses. For RUclips videos, talking head and vlogging and even simple b-roll scenarios, you have it down. Gréât comment. I love that 22mm f/2 and the nifty fifty. What a versatile combo. Next is a good zoom lens to put the icing on the cake, but I have to wait for some cash to roll in. That purchase will be a quality expensive one and the last one for awhile. Have fun.
I'm a beginner photographer and also a gadget freak. I bought an Eos M10 and an adapter and a crap-ton of old FD lenses. I'm having a ton of fun! For the price of a speed booster, you can get an fd 35mm f2.8 and a 50mm f1.8 for close to the same.
Good advice. I bought both. The Viltrox speed booster and the Viltrox adapter for the same price as one Canon Adapter. Now I have the flexibility to use the adapter or speed booster with each EF lens I purchase, depending on what factors of the lens I want to enhance. For example, I have the new Canon EF 70-300mm IS USM II lens. With the adapter I can use it almost the same as on a full frame camera (100-300) at almost full frame equivalent, but with the speed booster I can use it as an ASP-C lens with a focal range of 120 to 480mm and almost another full stop of light!
Nice thing about having an adapter and a speed booster is you can potentially double the usage of your lens collection as you will get two different ‘effective’ focal length from each. For example a 50mm 1.8 with an adapter will give wan effective focal length of around 80mm. With the speed booster you’ll get 50mm (ish) focal length (thereabouts) but with f1.2 thrown in due to extra stop of light. So having both diversifies your lens potential usage.
Totally agree. It is good to add that speed booster often reduces quality and sharpness. It also adds a vignette when you use 24 mm lens or wider. Checked in practice! :)
Thank you for making an honest info, yes everybody is praising speed booster so as a beginner I bought one and now I bought Sigma 18-35mm art for my Canon M50 and found that it is vignetting. So I need to buy a regular adapter now. I wouldn't but if I would knew it earlier.
Well at least, you bought the best lens you could possibly can for an aps-c camera. You can still keep de speedbooster for the future, but the moment you get used to how apsc works, you’ll probably won’t need it anymore. Thanks for taking the time to comment and watch, I really appreciate it.
One of the best videos. How can anyone disagree with you? Seriously. Everything you said was factual. It ends as an opinion, but it is based on facts. If I had watched your video before buying the viltrox speed booster, I may not have bought it. I bought an m50. My previous camera was a canon AE-1, which was an SLR , YES SLR, not DSLR. A FILM CAMERA. I also bought the 50mm 1.8 and an ordinary cheap adapter. After discovering the existence of the speed booster, I figured it was a good idea to own one, so I bought it. No one should be angry about a video that clarifies things I stead of just going along with the trends. I will definitely subscribe to your channel and recommend you to friends because you are knowledgeable and above all HONEST. You are not going with the flavour if the week, which I respect a lot. Thanks.
Yes, I believe you're right on this approach... I'm always for buying an ok camera to start with, invest in good lenses first, and then (when you know what you want and are doing) upgrading to a more professional full-frame camera.
I know, everybody is praising the fact that it almost turns the camera into full frame...but never mention that it is also very limiting + something I didn’t mention : it drains the battery faster...
Thank you i bought a speed buster just because everyone else was buying it but i didn't even know what it was for. So i still don't know what it is for after watching this video. I just want cinematic footage.
Thank you! I was about to purchase the speedbooster in spite I already have the Canon adaptor. I'd better off get a good power light (I use my M50 just to shoot videos
@@Tvennet Thank you Tomas! I use 2 Led panels for background and hair an, one Rpanel (key light), diffusers and reflectors, and sometimes small spots for the background.. Harry Potter magic haha 😂 just got my viltrox speedbooster and metal bayonet to change my canon 10-18mm efs Mount to an Ef Mount. I also have the canon ef-m adapter. Nice to have both.
I plan on having both. I already have the speed booster and I got it for a few different reason. I film vlog style paranormal content (shoot a lot more at night than I do in the day so I need as much light to hit the sensor as possible). With that being said wide angle shots are also important to me, for example I also have the "niffty50" and the speed booster makes it like a 35mm lens but the adaptor will make that 50mm more of an 80mm lens. So spending around $200 for both will hypothetically triple my lenses, my wide angle lens will be wider or tighter depending on which adapter I'm using and if I need the lens to be "what it was designed to be" I kept my EF/EF-S canon SL2 for a back up so I can just use that camera instead of my canon m50 mark ii. I can say I love the EF-M sigma 16mm f1.4 for the canon m50 mark ii but I wish it was a bit wider lol.
I’m sorry that I’m going to be tough, but your understanding of the speedbooster isn’t correct. Your nifty fifty doesn’t become a 35mm. It’s a 50mm. The speedbooster just prevents your 50mm to get affected by the aps-c crop. Not make it wider. If you feel the 16mm is still not wide enough, I would then consider the 10-18 with the adapter. It’s still going to be wider than 16mm. But it comes with a smaller aperture of f4 so you might need to push the iso a bit.
@@Tvennet I agree 100% with what you said about it "still being a 50mm" but the speed booster will make it be more like a full frame instead of a crop sensor. So with the speed booster it makes the 50mm seem more like a 35mm (50mm full frame) since its not so cropped as apposed to the normal adapter will have the glass further away from the sensor so it will seem more zoomed it like an 80mm lens. I know its still a 50mm regardless but if I have the 50mm on my sl2 then I put the 50mm on the speed booster and attach it to my m50 mark ii it looks like 2 different lenses, that's what I'm trying to say. You can get 3 different outcomes from the same lens depending on which adaptor you're using (2 different outcomes from the adapters then if you put the lens on a EF mount crop sensor camera it will look completely different than it does in either adaptor" . See what I mean now?
Good advice. Most other videos gloss over the fact that the speed booster is not compatible with the EFS lens series consequently not of any use with a budget lens.
The speedbooster is for more than just the m50 series. Majority of the people who mod the ef-s lenses are using them on the original EOS M with Magic lantern. The speedbooster corrects some of the major cropping that occurs. On the m50 you can use EF apsc lenses with the speedbooster and avoid vignetting while shooting 4k video. The m50 crops in at 4k so there absolutely is a benefit to using the speedbooster. Unless you are going for film level quality, most people won't even be able to tell the difference ....keeping in mind this is an entry level camera.
While I can accept the fact that there is a niche of people that mod ef-s for using it with black lantern etc etc, I’m talking about people that are not even knowing about all that. People who just bought the camera as a first camera and asking advice in Facebook groups etc…
Really clearly explained, thank you. Also I am just starting learning all about shooting better portfolio / interview video, and I really like your lighting set up in this video, thanks for all your advice.
No hate comments here, but I do think there is space for the speed booster in a beginner's arsenal as well. Just buying it on that 50mm f1.8 is a great way to experience that focal length range - my speed booster stays on that lens, and I can always get a regular adapter to experience the 80 range. Thanks for the video.
I'm the cheap guy and have ef/ef-s lens so the booster is for me, but the problem is not all ef/ef-s lenses will work fully with the speedbooster adapter
Thanksss. Finally a Person explainnig correctly and Simple. I was seen another vlogger and his explanation was soo detailed that i said to my self., dam i need to be an engeneer. You explained so simple. I really appreciate your info. you have a new follower.
Buying the adaptor is a really practical decision for anyone interested in adapting EF/EF-S lenses to the M lineup, I think speed booster is more of a hype. - And man, I wish the channel had more frequent uploads.
Merci beaucoup ça fait deux jours que je galère pour savoir lequel choisir et tu as parfaitement répondu à mes questions... Pour la peine je m'abonne !
You just saved me $200 bucks lol I have the regular adapter but was interested in the speed booster. Not anymore. I’ll just buy a lens in the 30mm range and get my 50mm focal length! Thanks
Thank you for explaining that , I bought the speed booster because it was what everyone said and I love the way the picture come out but I want to see how the m50 performs with the extra glass and just direct focus to the lens from the came with the regular adaptor.
Thanks. Very helpful.... You answered all the same stupid questions I had. I want to buy a Canon M50 Mark II and I have already a nice Canon EFS 18-135mm lens: my only lens. Which adapter do you recommend ? Any brand better price/value ? Or should I sell my lens and buy another one better for the M50 directly. I will sell my Canon 700D cause I want to do educational videocast and better Zoom calls. The Canon M50 seems the good choice for a beginner like me and continue doing tourism photography. Thanks for your extra help !
That’s interesting? What do you don’t like about the camera? And what do you like in the edit? I’m really interested. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! (Yeah, I saw the previous comment hahaha)

I have a slightly different opinion. Don’t adapt lenses at all, unless you already own lenses for another mount, or for creative reasons, there are vintage lenses that give you a “look” that you want to achieve. Otherwise it is always better to buy lenses that are native to the mount of the camera. Less hassles, and less junk to carry and have to fiddle with. Adapters are usually not weather sealed, and unless it is a full manual lens, or the adapter is native (Canon adapter on Canon lens on Canon camera) the performance is rarely as good as the performance of native glass. Adapters and speed boosters are full of promise, but are often disappointing in practice. UNLESS you are a professional who knows what you are doing. I use speed boosters and adapters deliberately, mostly to use Nikon manual, Nikon F mount Zeiss, and Canon FD and some EF to Sony and MFT. A Canon FD 50mm f1.2L can be either a 100mm f1.2 on MFT with an adapter, or a 70mm f0.8 with a speed booster. I like this flexibility, BUT, I already own the lenses from decades of owning and using cameras back in the film days. It is logical for me to make use of those lenses, BUT I would not see it as cost effective to buy the adapter and speed booster if I was starting from scratch. Native MFT and Sony glass are so much better to use, especially on MFT where Panasonic’s brilliant lens stabilization is so valuable. My advice is always buy native and if you want to save money, buy used lenses. My first 20 years of photography was all shot on used equipment. You rarely need the latest and greatest, just solid gear that does what you need it to do. There is a lot more savings to be made in buying earlier model used native gear than the imagined savings buying new adapters and new non-native lenses.
No. If you don’t have anything, why would you buy both? Buy the adapter and learn how apsc works. People are mislead by the fact that it is commonly said that the speedbooster turns the camera into full frame, which isn’t the case because the sensor still is an apsc sensor. But hey, it’s my opinion, and I don’t judge anyone who wants to buy both, it’s your money in the end...
@@Tvennet I have both ef and efs lenses im just saying in terms of the crop factor benefits are quite nice go have for my ef and can use the cheap one for my efs!
@@Tvennet I was just pulling your leg a bit my guy, I have lenses that I like from both ends of the isle so its just nice to have the flexibility! I'm obviously gonna just get the regular adapter then decide if the crop factor benefits are worthwhile further on.
Hey no worries man, I didn’t take it badly. Like I said, my opinion isn’t very popular. I know tons of people saying the speedbooster is an absolute must buy (but end up just using it with a 50mm 🙄). I bought it the day it came out, and every time i used it, I didn’t see a real benefit. Working with apsc is quite easy, and I think we tend to overthink it a bit too much...
@@Tvennet truthfully I completely agree with your opinion. I just like messing around a bit here and there. I'm currently in the boat of just having a 50mm from my old camera haha. Moving from the t5i to the m50 as of today just ordered! I'm definitely going adapter first then deciding if I need the booster later on. Kudos to the video though regardless! Was a good watch and definitely got another sub here! Despite my minor jostling I still completely agree with you on the speedboostwr being a must have is a little stretch for the average/ entry market ( i am very much included in that!) Cheers!
I am in the process of buying an R5C in 2 months. This is my 1st camera, and I want to use it on my YT channel. I am trying to find ideas and suggestions for what people use. I heard a lot about adapters, and that is the route to go with, but I am still not sure what lens to use for YT videos/vlogging. There is so many lenses to choose from and it s very overwhelming. I would appreciate any suggestions out there. I did join a Facebook group that deals w/ R5C cameras.
Well it’s not exactly the right place, because here it’s about adapters for smaller cameras (the canon M line). The R5C has only one adapter that let you put old EF/EFS lenses. The R5C is a full frame camera, so if you buy an adapter, you’ll better get some EF lenses, or the native RF mount. As for what lenses to get… With full frame cameras, the best is to build the « holy trinity » first : 16-35, 24-70, 70-200 Those lenses come in 2 versions : f2.8 or f4 (cheaper, less depth of field). If you want to do RUclips: get the 16-35 first (or the 15-35 RF). That’s pretty much the shortest way to answer your question.
Thank you Thomas for clearing the confusion regarding the adapters. At last an honest technical opinion about them. Canon is still way behind supplying their own hence purchasing a Vilrox. Viltrox has an adjuster ring. How do I get to work on an R6, please? Thumbs up and subscribed. Best of luck.
I've been searching for information about the BMPCC 4K. Im just trying to make a simple video podcast and I can't figure out which lens to purchase with it or if I need a speed booster or not.
I'm sick that the rear of the speed booster is plastic versus a polished metal. I've already been down that plastic road before, and I don't care for cheaper crap. Give me quality, or give me nothing.
Hello, i hope you still doing great this year Lens: Canon EF 17-40 F4 L Camera: Canon 5D mk ii & Sony A7ii Adpater: Viltrox EF Nex IV If i use canon FF sensor lens on canon FF camera and i shot on 17mm fl, the image output will be exactly 17mm wide. When i use canon ff lens on sony ff camera body with the adapter & i do the same shooting on 17mm, would i get same result? I mean i get exactly 17mm wide image, or it will be different like wider or narrower image because there's something called mount conversion factor? I ask this because im new to this adapter, and i want my canon lens work exactly like on my canon ff body.
I see where Viltrox has a EF-M speed Booster, Mark II. Does anyone know what was changed between the original Speed Booster and Mark II and how do you tell them apart?
Hey man, first of all, thank you for this video, I just saw it despite it is a year old. Thank you for your honesty, this might be the first video to NOT recommend the speedbooster. I see that you are willing to give advices, so I will take my chance. I am getting into photography more seriously for over a year, and have an M50. I also have several EF-M lenses and some M42's. I know how APS-C works, so no problem there. I eagerly want to buy a standard everyday zoom lens like EF 24-105 L f/4. I was considering pairing it with speedbooster because of the added stop of light and also wider field of view. But I am thinking: does it make sense to use an L lens with speedbooster, is the quality that much reduced? I certainly don't have enough money for 2.8 L nor would I invest in something like that at this point. Thanks in advance if you are willing to give me some advice, and anyway cheers to you, I am certainly subscribing!
Hey thanks for watching! It’s tricky to be honest. If I follow my reasoning, I’d stick to an adapter. The 24-105 would be a 35-150 which is super versatile and being someone who doesn’t really shoot wider than 35mm I would be fine with that. And if I really needed something wider I would use the lenses I have or buy the 10-18 to fill the gap (or the sigma 18-35). But if you would replace all your kit with just that lens, then yeah, maybe I would use the speedbooster knowing that I would have to then only invest in EF lenses in the future (and it would then come to maybe one lens, the 16-35?)…and there’s not a really good alternative in EFS or EFM mount…if you want to talk more about it, head over to Instagram it’s maybe easier ;)
@@Tvennet Thank you so much for your response! Yea, I was thinking the same thing, up to now I don't have much need for wider than 35 ff eq, and I already have a Sigma prime for that. But I will have to think of some ultrawide solution later, right now I think I need normal and telephoto lengths more. I might join your instagram too, although I don't use that platform, but I see it also might be useful. Thanks once again, keep up the good work!
@@getfmlr I might be consider it, it will mean much to get a wider shot and more light with this lens but the downside is losing telephoto reach which might mean more to me. Is the soeedbooster reducing image quality, does it make sense to have an L lens and speedbooster? Thanks for your comment!
great video., does the adapter effect the performance of the dual pixel autofocus?! I'm between m50 and 250d and I'm little concern about the m50 because of the lense.
I personally have no issues with autofocus when using the adapter... Both cameras are pretty similar, the main difference is mirrorless or DSLR. If you don’t invest money in EFM lenses, you don’t have to worry much. Oh and, I want to thank you. I had a shitty day, and your comment just made it better. So thank you very much !
@@Tvennet yea I realise they are very similar cameras , just on m50 I can find better deals atm , so trying to make a decision since I try to not spent much money , since in not s professional. oh thank you !!!! im glad , and keep making videos!!! and don't worry about a shit day , we all have that sometimes , just keep positive!!!!
If you look at budget only: m50+adapter+EFS lenses. Your EFS lenses can always be used in the future on an EOS R for example (with adapter, it automatically turns the camera in apsc mode). Depending on what you plan to shoot, you don’t need a lot of lenses, so your budget will be safe.
I have a simple question please answer me in a simple reply. I bought the Canon M50. I only need a zoom lense to shoot far away pictures of castles or boats in the sea. Which lense should I buy?. Your reply will be much appreciated. I'm not a professional neither do I want to be. I just want to use the zoom in this camera 😖
@@Tvennet Thanks for the quick reply. U thought I will buy it today from amazon as they are on sale but I was not sure about how good they are. Very few reviews about them and none encourages about buying them.
I liked the video. You are also very helpful in the group. I am gonna buy an M50 soon with a regular adapter. BTW, please remove that defocused plant leaves in the foreground from the next video. I have a serious OCD maybe. I found it irritating to my eyes while watching your video on a large display. Thank you, Thomas.
Sort of. There’s no real big benefit to have the speedbooster. Learn how aps-c works and you can do whatever you want. Your censor will always be an aps-c censor, so the image quality will never improve. The speedbooster is just a magnifying glass.
It just « de-zoom » the image. You don’t get a sharper image (on the contrary, it’s even a bit softer), you don’t get any advantage except adapting Full Frame Glass. That’s it. Your censor, still is aps-c with it’s limits and low performance in low light. Even the extra F stop isn’t really an advantage.
Im not convince by the argu for the speedbooster cause you can change the mount easily of efs lens for exemple or even ef m mount, plus the ef mount its not limited at all so 🤔
Guess you didn't understand anything that I said. I never said that the EF mount was limited. I said that the usage of the speed booster was limited to EF lenses. And if you really are one of those people that destroy their EFS mount to put it on a speed booster... I'm sorry but that's totally stupid. The EFS lenses are designed for APSC cameras, why would you put it on a speed booster that reduces the crop factor and get a huge amount of vignetting? That completely doesn't make sens. And EFM lenses can't be put on the speed booster, the mount is super small. And even if it would be possible...you'll get the same result of vignetting.
No. You can’t take the glass out. If you want something without glass, you just buy a simple adapter. And the difference is explained in the video or in the other video mentioned about lenses.
I'm seeing a vitrox speed booster with the red dot for full frame and a white square. Does the white square simplify that you can also use the 14- 55mm kit lens supplied that comes with the m50 kit? I'm new to all of this.
Like I said: The speedbooster only takes full frame lenses (with red dot). The adapter allows lenses with the red dot and the white square (Apsc lenses). The kit lens doesn’t need any adapter or speedbooster.
Great advice and completely agree. I would like to add though with regards to video - the speedbooster is king 👑. With the M50 there's a big 4k crop. So if you use EFS adapted lenses then they work beautifully with the speedbooster with so little or no vignette. Remembering that is you use the digital IS there's a further crop still so using 1080 on the M50 with digital IS works well too.
EFS lenses don’t work on the speedbooster. The mount hits the glass. And I know that people are « hacking » it by cutting the plastic mount but I wouldn’t advice that. The only Crop Lenses that can be mounted on the speedbooster are third party lenses like the sigma 18-35 which has an EF mount.
Plus: The quality of the image will decrease with the speedbooster. The edges will become less sharp than on on a "real" full frame camera like the EOS 6D.
Well said nice and clear, ps the adapter basically misses some of the sensor which is why its not so good for light in comparison. The booster hits the sensor directly getting that F1.2 using the 1.8 nifty fifty 📷
Hi Thomas, where I am a bit confused here is that my problem is the following : I have a canon m50, the 50mm lens and the adaptor and I would like to use this lens as a second camera angle to shoot videos in my office. However, the image is too cropped as my office is not big enough. In this specific case, do you agree that the speedbooster will solve a problem that the adaptor can’t ? Thanks for your help
I would first ask « why don’t you use the kit lens? ». If your issue is that your image is too cropped in, the difference between a 50mm + adapter and 50mm + speedbooster won’t be big if you’re in a tight space. Let’s say you put your camera behind your desk. If you use it has it is, with the adapter, the image will show what? Your eyes, nose and mouth? With the booster, you’ll see a bit more of your forehead and your chin, but not much more. Instead of buying a speedbooster, I would buy the EFS 24mm which is the same price. Or the EFM 22mm which has been reduced in price a couple days ago. Both of these are wider and are around 150$ now...
@@Tvennet thanks a lot for your quick answer. The kit lens at 45mm, the image is dark and I don’t have that blurry background that I like for the second angle. With the 50mm, I have 95% of my head in the frame at that distance. I could use it like this but would prefer to see the top of my shoulders at least. For the main camera, I use the 22mm. Something in between (22mm and 50mm) and affordable would be ideal and I was wondering if the speedbooster could be a solution or if I should better look for a cheap 35mm lens. I will check some videos and see if I can find a cheap alternative Thanks again

Yes. It’s true. And not only with the 50mm, with any other lens. You’re putting an extra piece of glass between your lens and your sensor, reason why you lose a bit of quality.
The answer is in the video. If you’re only going to use the 50mm with the speedbooster and not buy any other EF lens, then there’s no reason to invest in that. Learn how APSC works, and buy lenses accordingly.
1) EFS lenses don’t work on the speedbooster 2) if you still “mod” your EFS lens for the speedbooster, you’ll lose your warranty and get super extra vignetting..
Do you know if exist a speedbooster for ef/ef-s for canon 77D? I want more F step and fix the crop ,my camera accept apsc and full frame lenses but this viltrox only works on M50 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Not for the moment. It’s a Sony/Fuji/Nikon, but at some point I’ll make more lens reviews. You can always check my Instagram if you want to see pictures taken with it. Or the POV video.

I bought the adapter first, and then added the speed booster.
@@GunnarsMassageoPizza exactly what I did.
Does that also include Metabones Ultra?
thanks man .. i was so confused before buying this adapter and you just gave me some clarity .. i am rethinking now
Thank you for making an honest info, yes everybody is praising speed booster so as a beginner I bought one and now I bought Sigma 18-35mm art for my Canon M50 and found that it is vignetting.
Thanks for taking the time to comment and watch, I really appreciate it.
wow this is the first time i've heard that the speed booster is limited to what lenses it can use!! thank you!!
Thanks for bringing up the drawback with the speed booster. Wasn't mentioned in any of the previous videos that I've watched.
100% agree with this. I have the viltrox adapter and speed booster.
Such a good point! Great video. Thanks!
Thank you! I was about to purchase the speedbooster in spite I already have the Canon adaptor. I'd better off get a good power light (I use my M50 just to shoot videos
You’re very welcome.
What kind of light? Because the Godox SL60 is pretty good for simply RUclips things. Or their new VL150...

I agree. So many new photographers don't know that a speedbooster can only be used on an EF (fullframe) series lens
I know right...and then you have people telling them to just hack their EFS lenses...it’s really a downward spiral...
People who just bought the camera as a first camera and asking advice in Facebook groups etc…
thanks, I was looking for advices before buying an adapter for my Lumix
Really clearly explained, thank you. Also I am just starting learning all about shooting better portfolio / interview video, and I really like your lighting set up in this video, thanks for all your advice.
Wow, well explained with basic english just in a few minutes. Thx.
I watched this after watching a 24 minutes videos that left me still confused 😂😂😂
No hate comments here, but I do think there is space for the speed booster in a beginner's arsenal as well. Just buying it
on that 50mm f1.8 is a great way to experience that focal length range - my speed booster stays on that lens, and I can always get a regular adapter to experience the 80 range. Thanks for the video.
I agree with you...
Instead of buying another lens you can get two focals with one lens...
I'm the cheap guy and have ef/ef-s lens so the booster is for me, but the problem is not all ef/ef-s lenses will work fully with the speedbooster adapter
Only EF lenses will work.
Get the adapter. Smarter choice 🤷🏻♂️

Buying the adaptor is a really practical decision for anyone interested in adapting EF/EF-S lenses to the M lineup, I think speed booster is more of a hype.

I subscribed to your channel thanks to this video! Keep up the great work
Thanks a lot!!! Appreciate the support!!!
The real question is. Do you buy both? Only 30-40 more than the speed booster price and you get the benefits of both!

As for what lenses to get…
With full frame cameras, the best is to build the « holy trinity » first : 16-35, 24-70, 70-200
Those lenses come in 2 versions : f2.8 or f4 (cheaper, less depth of field).
Best of luck.
perfectly explained. Thanks.
Thanks for the shout-out!
It was my pleasure ! And thanks for making an incredible M42 adapter for my helios, great quality!
I've been searching for information about the BMPCC 4K. Im just trying to make a simple video podcast and I can't figure out which lens to purchase with it or if I need a speed booster or not.
Great advice thank you.
I'm sick that the rear of the speed booster is plastic versus a polished metal. I've already been down that plastic road before, and I don't care for cheaper crap. Give me quality, or give me nothing.
please make a video about Speedbooster or adapter for sony a6500 ??
Buy me the camera and I’ll do it. But my opinion will pretty much be the same.
For me I've got both. I get 2nd hand EF lens and having both booster and adaptor means i'm getting double the amount from my lenses.
Hello, i hope you still doing great this year
Lens: Canon EF 17-40 F4 L
Camera: Canon 5D mk ii & Sony A7ii
Adpater: Viltrox EF Nex IV
If i use canon FF sensor lens on canon FF camera and i shot on 17mm fl, the image output will be exactly 17mm wide.
It should be if it’s a full frame lens.
Maybe there might be a very slight difference but I can’t tell you 100%.
@@zheljkokojchic2300 I use the 24 105 lens with speedbooster. Definitely get the speedbooster if you're wanting to use full frame lenses on m50.

Both cameras are pretty similar, the main difference is mirrorless or DSLR. If you don’t invest money in EFM lenses, you don’t have to worry much.

@@Tvennet Looking forward to seeing your amazing final setup. All the very best.
You showed the viltrox. Does metabones add vignette also?
Yes. It’s not the brand that matters, it’s the fact that an Apsc lens is build to work with smaller sensors.
So, if your on a budget, sacrifice the benefits from a speedbooster, and get to use more lens?
Sort of. There’s no real big benefit to have the speedbooster. Learn how aps-c works and you can do whatever you want. Your censor will always be an aps-c censor, so the image quality will never improve. The speedbooster is just a magnifying glass.
@@Tvennet So, it's just acts to burn in the image, but at a much more wider image, but losing quality in that process?
It just « de-zoom » the image.
You don’t get a sharper image (on the contrary, it’s even a bit softer), you don’t get any advantage except adapting Full Frame Glass. That’s it. Your censor, still is aps-c with it’s limits and low performance in low light.
Even the extra F stop isn’t really an advantage.
@@Tvennet So, you get a usable softer image, like a filter effect?
If i use 50mm in crop sensor it gives me 80mm . The adaptor does not add extra crop again ? For canon m50ii

@@Tvennet Thank you for your answer bro
Thanks. I agreed. I bought both the adapter and the Harry Potter.
I guess you meant the speedbooster...but calling it the « Harry Potter » made me laugh so much that I’ll start calling it like that from this moment!
@@Tvennet LOL yes the speedbooster
Thank you for good job 👏 😊
Can you use the viltrox without the glass and what difference does it make ? To lenses
No. You can’t take the glass out. If you want something without glass, you just buy a simple adapter. And the difference is explained in the video or in the other video mentioned about lenses.
my fear is that the weight on the lens could break the mount on the camera side , it looks like they made it plastic
I'm seeing a vitrox speed booster with the red dot for full frame and a white square. Does the white square simplify that you can also use the 14- 55mm kit lens supplied that comes with the m50 kit?
I'm new to all of this.
Like I said:
The speedbooster only takes full frame lenses (with red dot).
The adapter allows lenses with the red dot and the white square (Apsc lenses).
The kit lens doesn’t need any adapter or speedbooster.
@@Tvennet thank you Thomas. Your video was very helpful

awesome Vid
Dude you totally look like Evan McGregor!
Well…hello there.
I will check some videos and see if I can find a cheap alternative
Thanks again
i bought m50 in last week
now i want to buy an adopter
but can't affort canon adopter , it's costly
which third party adopter will be better in turms of autofocus speed for videography
They’re all the same. All the adapters listed below in the description work perfectly fine without any autofocus issues.
@@Tvennet thank you sir for reply. Does canon EF-S lenses fit to this adopter ? I want to buy EF-S 55-250mm for my canon m50
If you buy a regular adapter, EFS & EF lenses work
I JUST NOW REALISED! You had the video another youtuber I followed recently linked in his description of the Canon color profile installation. Even more reason to sub haha! Makin plays out here for us soon to be m50ers
Really? Who linked that? I’m really curious because I’m always surprised when I see my stuff pop once in a while :D
@@Tvennet Joris Hermans "turn your canon m50 into a cinematic beast" from 5 months ago (was watching that while ordering my m50 haha) then he linked your video in the description because he said you were better at explaining it haha
ruclips.net/video/tSr8F5_kYZU/видео.html 7:00 mark he mentions he linked below and its your vid! :D
what camera you used to record your self?
A7iii
Thomas Vennet nice 👍🏻 I like the quality of video, am shifting from canon to sony a7iii but am confused about adapter on my canon lenses, people said they will be pain for auto focus!

And people are right. Don’t use Adapters. The AF is really really not good. Save some money, and buy the Tamron lenses.
Thomas Vennet will take your advice seriously, thanks a lot
Is it true that you lose image quality video when using speed booster with 50mm??
Yes. It’s true. And not only with the 50mm, with any other lens. You’re putting an extra piece of glass between your lens and your sensor, reason why you lose a bit of quality.
@@Tvennet so I better leave the kit lens then.
Well not really. Because the kit lens is not real quality…
@@Tvennet So any suggestions? thanks
The answer is in the video. If you’re only going to use the 50mm with the speedbooster and not buy any other EF lens, then there’s no reason to invest in that.
Learn how APSC works, and buy lenses accordingly.
Why avoid full frame look for ef s lens?
1) EFS lenses don’t work on the speedbooster
2) if you still “mod” your EFS lens for the speedbooster, you’ll lose your warranty and get super extra vignetting..
If i dont want to use ef s lens then can u buy?
Buy a regular adapter. You then can buy EF or EFS lenses. Or stick to EFM lenses only.
@@Tvennet i dont want to use efs lens then why should I buy adapter . Should I go for speed booster?
The question is : why don’t you want to buy EFS lenses?
Does the speed boosters damage the focus mechanism on a long term use?
No it doesn’t.
Do you know if exist a speedbooster for ef/ef-s for canon 77D? I want more F step and fix the crop ,my camera accept apsc and full frame lenses but this viltrox only works on M50 🙄🙄🙄🙄
No.
Let me explain it: your camera is an EFS mount camera. You don’t need adapters.
If you want more F stop, buy faster lenses. Just simple as that...
What can I use to add more stops to my lens when I already have a full frame camera and do not need an adapter or a speedbooster?
You can’t.
The only thing you can do is invest more money in faster lenses.
@@Tvennet Do you have a review on the Viltrox 85mm v2?
Not for the moment.
It’s a Sony/Fuji/Nikon, but at some point I’ll make more lens reviews. You can always check my Instagram if you want to see pictures taken with it. Or the POV video.
@@Tvennet Thanks, man.
Most ef s lens are apsc
Please...
EFS lenses are for apsc ONLY!
Thanks for trying...
