    My first camera is the M50 with 15-45 kit lense. My second lense was the Nifty Fifty with the viltrox speed-booster. Having that set up taught me about frame blocking, aps-c to full frame conversions, shooting wide open using Nd filters, white balancing and how focal length can be used to tell a story. This is a great lense and good step forward for those interested in film making. Probably looking for wide angle lense next so maybe the Sigma 16 1.4 or Sigma 18-35 1.8. Great video!

    Have owned my M50 for a month now and love it. I just happen to get the 50mm 1.8 about 2 weeks ago and purchased the speed booster should get it tomorrow. Can't wait to try it out as I love taking sky photos especially sunrise pics. Love those NC afternoon thunder showers, then boom sun is out.

    I like the depth of field view you illustrated, however what's the difference in quality between the nifty fifty and 22mm which I already have and often use it for my talking head videos instead of the kit lens? Speed Booster vs Commlite CM-EF-EOS M..is there any difference?

    I bought my Canon M50 in 2019 from B&H Video and when I bought that it came with a deal to add on the Canon EF/EF-S to EF-M adapter for $12.98. I also now own the Speedbooster but I never hear anyone comment about this deal from B&M. I am not sure if they still do that deal but what a great deal it was. I also have the Nifty Fifty and I agree, it is a great second lens.

    I recently bought the M50 and a Viltrox EF to EF-M adapter for my RUclips channel (Home Theater Gamer if you’re interested). I have the 24mm 2.8 and 50mm 1.8 and they both work well, though the nifty fifty I have is the older version without the stepper motor. Autofocus still works flawlessly, it’s just noisy. Thanks for all your M50 content! I’ve learned a few things about the camera!

    Definitely my favourite second lens, as well. The sigma 17-50 2.8 is my main shooter, then I use the nifty fifty and a sigma 70-300 to fill in the gaps. This combo has been all I ever need 👍

      The Crowley Crew it’s made for APSC DSLRs, I can’t remember what crop factor that is tbh. I know that zoomed in all the way to 50mm on the Sigma is a bit wider than if I were shooting with the nifty fifty, if that makes sense.

    Yup just got the nifty 50, it's my main instagram shooter now, I have a speed booster for true 50mm and a standard adapter for 80mmish equivalent, between that and my sigma 16 for vlogging it's a great set of lenses that will cover a lot of work.

    I totally agree, I've got several other lenses for the M50 now but the 50mm f1.8 was the first lens I purchased for my camera and the combination of increased sharpness and its much lower light capability compared to the kit lens really changed the M50 possibilities. There is no lens that's perfect for all situations and that does include the Nifty Fifty, it's not the best walk and talk or desktop vlogging lens available but that aside, the value for the $$$ spent is outstanding.

    • @TheCrowleyCrew

    I was very lucky to get the 50mm and adapter in my kit for the M6 mk2. Such a great lenses to have. Though don’t forget you need to apply the crop factor to both your framing and f stop if your looking to anything on the technical side of lighting in photography.

    Nice vlog CC. The nifty fifty was the second lens I got for my M50 as it's cheap n cheerful. I also got the Viltrox M & M2 (sppedbooster) which the gave me a choice to use the nifty fifty as a 56mm standard prime or an 80mm portrait. Thus demonstrating your point that the 50mm is the best second lens, but also it isn't necessarily a 2nd best lens because of its flexibility, if you see what I mean. Thanks for your vid.

    Hi thanks for the Vids! I just have a question, i just brought 50mm lens and a viltrox adaptor for my M50, but it seems like it has zoomed and when I’m holding the camera I can’t even make my face fit, is this normal for 50mm? Or was it my Viltrox adaptor? Thanks

    Hey man love the vid . My Kit lens has always been a disappointment for me and to say that my Drone camera footage is always way better than my M50 footage. There's a wide difference of quality between the two and the drone is always superior. Do you think the sigma 16mm lens would fix the problem and come to somewhat closer to a better quality? Help me out here ,I very sad for the quality that the kit lens is giving out ,even tho I do have the nifty fifty which works fine for clos up shots. Will the 16mm help me achieve those cinematic wide shots ?

    • @TheCrowleyCrew
      @TheCrowleyCrew  3 года назад

      Thanks, what is it about the kit lens that you don’t like? Unfortunately comparing it to drone footage is difficult since drops usually shoot in 4K or are just sharpened more. What picture style are you using? That can make a difference. I never use standard because I don’t like the way it looks. If you have dialed in the settings to be perfect but are still thinking it is the lens then you need to figure out the aspects of the lens you have a problem with. Is it sharpness? If so then the Sigma should be a good option. If it is low light then the Sigma should be good for that too. If it is the field of view that is holding you back you probably need to look into something else. If you can let me know specifically what you don’t like I can make some suggestions.

    Great video. Good recommendation. Lately I've thought just a little about how everyone is talking about shallow DOF, which is understandable. But sometimes, less often you might actually want the opposite. One of the things about DOF that is not always mentioned is that DOF varies by distance to subject. And, it's seems, DOF it literally a function of the size or 'scale' of the lens and sensor. Obviously bigger pupils let in more light, but always at the 'expense' of less DOF. I keep wondering if there's an optical way for larger lens (vs a smaller one) to regain that DOF, if you want it, while still gathering more light to the sensor. Something like a speed-booster, but that doesn't change focal length, just 'concentrates' light at the same magnification (from a larger image circle to a smaller one). I know that sounds like a contradiction. So far, I've not heard of anything, and I sorta think the physics might be against it. But at least, I think it's interesting to think about optics from different angles, to help understand it.

    • @TheCrowleyCrew
      @TheCrowleyCrew  3 года назад +1

      In terms of sharpness they’re both good low light both similar so it comes down the focal length. That depends on what look you’re going for. The 22mm is more of a mid range walk around lens, (good for street photos or wide portraits shots) The 50mm is a tight lens for more detail shots, tighter “pro” portraits and interviews. Figure out which focal length you like shooting at on the kit lens.

Other than those though unless size is more important to you that image quality (which is fine) I wouldn’t get the EF-M mount lens at least the ones with auto focus.

      I’d second that. I have 4 batteries total, but I have never gone through more that two. Though there have been a few times I forgot to charge, so having 3-4 is the way to go.

    I have a question. Why do I need to use an adaptor on Canon M50 if I have original Canon lens? Like I have EF 50mm f/1.8 STM and EFS 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM. Do I still need an adaptor?? Also what is the cheap adaptor I could buy please which will set on M50 and both my lenses? If some one could answer me please as I am planning to buy Canon M50? Thank you...

    • @TheCrowleyCrew

      The EF-S lenses are made for DLSR cameras that have a mirror between the lens and the sensor. When you mount a DSLR lens on a mirrorless camera you need something that makes the lens the same distance from the sensor. That is where the adapter comes in.
      Here is Viltrox’s version. www.amazon.com/EF-EOS-Electronic-Auto-Focus-Converter-Mirrorless/dp/B07P2CH43B/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=ef-efm&qid=1630063803&sr=8-3

    Hii. I just owned the m50. And of course after this video I’m planing to buy 50mm lens But I don’t have the adapter.
    So Should I go with speed booster instead of regular adapter? Please suggest me.
    And also I want to use 10-18mm lens on it. So what’s your suggestion?

    • @TheCrowleyCrew
      @TheCrowleyCrew  4 года назад +1

      If you’re gonna get the 10-18 definitely start with the regular one. The 10-18 won’t work with the speed booster.

    • @AnandaGarden
      @AnandaGarden 4 года назад +2

      Just an unsolicited shout-out for the 10-18. I find it's a beast for the M50 - wonderful image quality and sharpness at any focal length, and you can show a main subject and let viewers see some context, too.

  • @naturalback

    Great as always....I'm thinking why not just the native 22mm f2, (is f2 not fast enough?), which for me in uk would be cheaper than 50mm plus adaptor. Am I missing something or is it just if you have existing glass. Still love everything you do.

    • @TheCrowleyCrew
      @TheCrowleyCrew  4 года назад +1

      It really depends on what focal length you need. The 22mm is great for wider to mid shots, the 50mm is for tight shots. What are you shooting?

Your channel has really helped me out and why I chose the M50 despite all the reviews saying it's an entry level camera. The exposure triangle is the exposure triangle whatever you're using. You learn something new everyday 😂! I wasn't aware that the nifty fifty and the 15 had the same thread size. I just bought a variable and filter for the 50. But I have the 50mil from Yungnuo. Slow to focus and loud when it does anything. In my opinion, it's better to use the speed booster. Takes away the m50 1.6 crop factor. This way you get closer to 50mm.

    • @denmarksoul1184
      @denmarksoul1184 4 года назад +2

      I have this lens also. It is extremely noisy on AF. MF is the way to go. Also, an extender on top for a mic will reduce noise in video. How's the speed booster? (I've heard a lot of negatives.)

    • @dwsvlogs97
      @dwsvlogs97 4 года назад +2

      @@ectwins8128 The Yongnuo 50mm 1.8 has a 52mm ND filter size while the m50 kit lens has a 49mm ND filter size. So the Yongnuo ND filter will not fit the m50's kit lens. You have to buy a filter for the kit lens...sucks!

    • @dwsvlogs97
      @dwsvlogs97 4 года назад +2

      @@denmarksoul1184 I actually have wireless mics. You can't hear any noise with those. The speed booster widens the focal length and offsets the m50's 1.6x crop factor, allow you to shoot at or below the 50mm focal length of the nifty 50. It also magnifies light which means your 1.8 lens goes down to a 1.2. I haven't notice any problems with the booster communicating with the camera's autofocus but the booster bring in too much light for you to shoot at 1.2...so I bought a 52mm ND filter for it. Speed booster also allow you to use the m50 like a full frame camera. It great...except the more expensive lenses.
