  • The MX5 is going standalone with the Motorsport Electronics ME221 ECU. In this episode I'll be removing the MX5's stock ECU from beneath the passenger footwell, lifting out the OEM chip board & swapping in the ME221. This will require some modifications to the ECU chassis before reinstallation which I will also cover in this video. After this is done I'll be running a MAP line from the inlet manifold of the engine, through the bulkhead, and connecting it to the ME221 ECU. Finally the ECU can be secured back to the car in the factory position. The ECU in this video is a Gen 1 ME221 (black board), but this installation proceedure will also apply to the Gen 1 ME442, AND the Gen 2 ME221 & ME442 (white board). Many parts of this install will also be applicable to other popular standalone plug & play ECUs for the MX5, for example, the Megasquirt MS2 & MS3, and Speeduino boards.
✔️ In Part 02 of this ECU install I'll be uploading a basemap to the ME221, & after some sensor checks, will be attempting a first start up. Link to that video here : • Basemap Upload, Sensor...
✔️ Between these 2 Parts I'll also need to install the AEM Series X AFR Gauge and Wideband Sensor. If you want to see that process click this link : • How to Install an AFR ...

It takes a vacuum/boost reference back to the ECU.

how would you go about replacing an ECU when you have an immobilizer? can you just buy a new ECU and program it to your immobilizer?
