www.justonebadc... ethervision.net This audio found in the trash of Harry Caray recalling a not so enjoyable moment where he did not get a crackerJack Prize.
He's hilarious he was a baseball commentator and he said here's the pitch and didn't even tell you if it was a ball or strike just went on with his story like their isn't a game going on..the best.
When I was younger I loved baseball but I was not a fan of the Cubs. BUT I did watch Cubs games on TV just so I could listen to this crazy old man. Haven't watch baseball in years but still like to listen to these videos of this legendary broadcaster!
Grew up in Minnesota, after school I'd go to my Grandparents house right after school and watch these games on WGN at like 2:30 in the afternoon... Die hard Twins fan but this brings back memories. Go Cubs!
“You talk about a congressman being crooked.” Lmfao I’m a lifelong die hard Cardinals fan but every afternoon I’d watch the Cubs on WGN with my grandpa (who passed away last year) because we loved listening to Harry Caray lol
There'll never be another Harry. Massive drinker who spoke his mind. I seen him drinking many times in Chicago. He was, like a lot of us, an all day drinker. Paced and spread out just enough to mostly avoid hurting yourself. Cosell said "Tell it like it is". Harry sure did do that. Here's to ya, Harry!!! Wish you were here.
If you have any interest .. I have a ORDERED, CHRONOLOGICAL and perhaps the most comprehensive CUBS/Carey playlist of games that are on YT... Still adding as they reveal themselves
Here's the deal, Harry had his phone number listed for anyone to phone him. Met him many times on Broadway. Chicago, and it was a gift to shake his hand, Let me make that clear, it was a gift to shake his hand. Another great, White Sox Tony LaRussa AND Bill Buckner. Chicago rocked and Harry was the real deal!
Oh my... That's right, I hadn't thought of that until I just read that again. That's a great place to be, where you can pick up your phone without letting it go to voicemail or some damn message. Not afraid of creditors or bad news, just OPEN, ready to deal with whatever. I have no problems publishing my phone#... The only difference is no one is going to want to call...ha. I bet he would have played right along with Will Ferrell, and more so 'got it' & played along.
Harry you slay me. You are insane. In the greatest way. I grew up a Cardinal fan and lisened to you Joe and Jack on KMOX. Thanks for a great childhood. I miss you.
I always got my surprise in Cracker Jack. My favorite was the little magnifying glass. The worst prize was the little paper book was something written in it. But there was no collecting the prizes because they always got lost the day you took him out of the box.
Harry you were one of a kind. You are baseball to every kid from St. Louis in the 50s. It sounds like you had a couple of Buds. Misss you man. Keep on keepin' on.
Hey, Norm!!! Remember Cracker Jack's? Would you eat Cracker Jack's if they didn't have the little prize? Don't jerk me around, it's a simple question...I wouldn't. I'd feel like they cheated me!
Man, this is great!!! A typical Harry tangent about "who knows what" during the broadcast... What great memories of coming home from school, firing up the Cubbies game, eating a snack and listening to Harry go off on Lord knows what... Miss ya Harry!!!
Sorry you weren't here too see your beloved Cubbies FINALLY win the World Series in what was possibly the greatest series of all time (definitely the greatest game 7), you deserved it's much if not more than anyone else. I'm sure you were looking down and singing Take Me Out to the Ball Game while having a cold one. This ones for you Harry!!
As much as Harry would’ve loved to see the Cubs win a World Series, Harry was always a St. Louis Cardinals fan at heart. Being born in St. Louis and calling Cardinals games for 24 years, Harry actually did get to see his true beloved team, the Cardinals, win the World Series in 1964 & 1967 and actually blow a 3-1 lead to the Detroit Tigers in the 1968 World Series. Although Harry was known before becoming the Cubs announcer, he gained most of his popularity & fame as a Cubs announcer. And yes, he did love the Cubs too.
I miss him so much. Used to watch him on WGN and used to listen to him on local FM radio while shooting hoops or swimming in the pool all summer. Had the privilege one time of attending a game and seeing him hang out of the press box singing the 7th inning stretch. What a national treasure

When my wife was a kid, she didn’t get a prize with her box of Cracker Jack’s. She wrote a letter to the company and they send her a whole box of prizes.
Died in ‘98. I can’t believe it. I was born and raised in Houston and grew up listening to Milo Hamilton. I used to watch the Cubs play the Astros back then on WGN and they had Harry on as the color commentator. I liked listening to him, but man does it take me back to the 80s and 90s to hear his voice. Such better times!
I used to watch the Cubs on WGN with my grandfather many years ago back in the 80s during my summer break from school and remember Harry and Steve Stone. I miss those times.
Classic, just classic. Man do I miss him. Listening him progressively get blitzed throughout 9 innings. Watching him almost fall out of the booth during the 7th inning stretch. And poor Steve Stone trying to do post-game while Harry's almost passed out.
Harry was easily the most entertaining baseball announcer that I've had the pleasure to listen to. Baseball is hard enough to get into on TV, on the radio it's even more of a challenge.
TodayWasAGoodDay9 I like to listen to games on the radio. Baseball is a slow enough game that, with a good announcer, I can imagine exactly what the field looks like.
Disagree and Harry was. Why,the saying came from, The best way to watch a game is listening to it on the radio! I had the pleasure of listening to him broadcast the St.Louis Cardinals games. Listening on the Radio in Chicago, then he came too first the White Sox then the Cubs. Most people do not know he announced for the Oakland A's for 1 year
Harry was so unique and different it made the game fun to watch.I really really miss his voice and humor. The WGN game I see in Oregon is always entertaining still.God bless Harry!
I'm a Cardinals fan, but I'll be damned if I said I didn't love this dude. I remember coming home after school and watching the Cubs on WGN because that was the only way I could watch baseball. My grandpa and I would watch and just laugh at Haray Caray's commentary.
as an avid Reds fan I have always hated the Cubs, but I always loved Harry Caray. I would watch more Cubs games than anything just to hear that guy (and cause I live in Indiana and they show every game on WGN). RIP Harry!!!!
Yes. He was just a fan, watching the game. Of course that led to lots of rambling.....he was always commenting on the fans, "look at that youngster over there with the cotton candy! I love cotton candy, but I wish it came in other colors besides pink. do you like it Steve?", stuff like that. He would also have quite a bit of trouble pronouncing Latin players' names.
If you have any interest .. I have a ORDERED, CHRONOLOGICAL and perhaps the most comprehensive CUBS/Carey playlist of games that are on YT... Still adding as they reveal themselves
Thanks for posting this. Harry is an icon.I remember this conversation and how much I was laughing. Is there a posting of his conversation with Steve about seedless grapes?
Root Root Root for the Cubbies, Harry Caray was the greatest. No announcer could come close. Imagine if he was the announcer for some of the playoff games of our day and age..you'd never be bored!
The thing I loved about watching Cubs baseball...you NEVER knew what Harry was gonna say or spell or whatever. Miss those days so much! Don't even watch WGN any longer, haven't seen a game in 5+ years and wouldn't miss one back then.
His colleagues really should have spiked a box of Cracker Jacks with a dozen of the coolest little prizes and trinkets and given it to Harry on his birthday.
I miss Harry. I was born in Chicago, but my family moved to Fla. when I was young and listening to Harry and Steve on WGN was very comforting and made me feel close to my relatives back in Chicago. I don't enjoy the current team of len and bob. I'm not sure why, but they don't enhance my game experience.
THIS IS PRICELESS!!! And by the way.....that has happened to me!! 12 cents a box back in the day! 2 weeks worth of allowance & ya get burned!! BOOOOOOOO!!!

As much as I enjoy listening to Steve Stone ("the professor of baseball" as I call him), there was nothing like hearing Harry Caray and Jimmy Piersall when they were calling the White Sox games together from I believe 1977-1981. They were both bigger than the that organization that only had one winning season in that time, 1977 with the South Side Hitmen. But listening Harry and Jimmy was pure awesome, it was as if they were visitng with you in your own living room.
You wouldn't even be mad that he didn't even announce the play. The game was second nature to him, and it was wonderful! You got more hyped up about the story Harry was telling! You would forget that there was even a game playing!
Hey! if you can find a tape of Harry Caray falling in love with a Bubbie's Kosher Pickel off camera but on mic. It was in 1986. It's a classic, or should be! And while your at it. Brilliant.
2 minutes in and we don't even know who's up.
The man is an absolute legend.

Harry Carey was a Baseball Commentator for WGNTV.
Not the radio
@@JohnkothIf I remember correctly, when he first started with WGN he would do the first 3 innings for tv the 2nd 3 for radio and the last 3 for tv.
Just a question of priorities.
There'll never be another Harry! When he was broadcasting drunk, it was priceless!
I miss those days of Steve Stone and Harry Caray while watching the Cubs when I was a kid in Chicago. GO CUBS!!!
I didn't realize that Harry Caray was an actual person till today.
That makes it all the better.
wtf
As Harry always used to say, "Ah, you can't beat fun at the ol' ballpark"! How I still miss him!
Loved that man. Spent every summer listening to him.
"It's hard to think in laudatory terms of the product". Funnier than Will Ferrell ever dreamed up.
"It's hard to think in laudatory terms." People just don't make statements like that anymore.

Harry's just telling it like it is. Truth in advertising. He was a smart man. They really don't make them like him anymore.
Harry held that grudge his entire life!
Harry Caray is a legend. People said, even when he was wasted he was cordial, funny, and a joy to be around, lol.
The prizes in the box when I was a kid lasted a long time, however some contained lead. Then they switched to plastic and it was down hill ever since.
