I’m so happy to share that my book - The Cottage Fairy Companion - is now available for pre-order!

Also available at my local bookstore, Trail’s End Books: www.trailsendbookstore.com/bo...

Just wanted to share some pros and cons (depending on how you look at it) of living rural and how it has affected me in many ways. Primarily in the area of rethinking what is necessary for comfortable living, and how important it is to have interests and hobbies that add quality to your life. Sending love and light.
A reminder to new subscribers: the visuals of this video is one of my art forms, I love to create a dreamy, peaceful escape into my home environment. I’d love to spend all my days like this but I do need to work most of the time 🤍 as I said in an earlier video I like to portray home life not always as it is, but how it could be from different angles, perspectives, and mindsets. If we don’t take moments to dream of other realities, then we never get to exercise our imaginations, and that is something I can never live without.

Thank you! You are wise for your age. Here I am, an 81 year old widow, and still have not learned what you have learned. I live on the edge of a small town, with open fields on two sides. The highway is 1/2 mile away with leads to the forest. But I haven't learned to take advantage of the joy around me. So thank you. There is still time for me to learn.

You mentioning how new places are only temporary, and how you can’t move away from personal growth really called me out. I’ve been in a slump since the plague started, and I’ve been daydreaming about a life like yours. But in truth it wouldn’t fix my problems. I need to keep working on being happy where I am now, being rooted and supported by my space. Thank you for the revelation, especially in such a warm and gentle package!

I feel exactly the same. My problem is just that I don’t know where to start with working on that. Everything just feels overwhelming and in a way I don’t even really know how to find peace in my own situation, if that makes sense? I've had a self-discovery boost last year and wanted to change something, but since that's gone it's been hard for me as how to start working on that. I have also kind of lost my appreciation for simple things like nature and when I get overwhelmed, there is little that can calm me down (my usual methods just don't work anymore) and there are only videos like these that actually help. It's such a weird situation and it's been worrying me for quite some time.

😉 Traducido google translate: I assure you that the same thing happens to me, I dream of living in the country, at least one thing I know for sure, it would give me the peace that I do not get in the city but it is true, we have to be happy living "the here and now". The rest will come, who knows what it will be? 😉

@@brknpeople I don't have an answer, but something that's helped me navigate some similar feelings is learning more about self-acceptance and self-compassion and making a more conscious effort to practice that instead of focusing on what I feel I need to change. Of really, truly just taking it all in and being okay with yourself as you are and knowing you're doing the best you can. (I recommend "When Things Fall Apart" by Pema Chödrön, she writes so beautifully on this topic.) I have had many moments where I felt that same kind of self-discovery "boost" but then found myself using that inspiration and momentum to just make all these lists of things I needed to do differently, and that gets tiring fast. If you're constantly overwhelmed, putting more pressure on yourself isn't going to help. It's okay to stop, to feel the air in your lungs, to rest and to know that you're already enough just as you are. The trees don't think about how they need to grow and change. They just stay still, and grow anyway. Obviously, I don't know your exact experience so I sincerely hope none of this comes off as preachy. I hope you find some peace. 💛

@@brknpeople For me, I choose one thing that I have control over and liked and then expanded the feeling it gives to me. I find now (not always), so many things interest me, like looming rugs from old clothes. I couldn’t afford a loom, so I pounded nails and screws into lumber.
My mind races, and has been in a steady state of hyper-arousal for so long, never quite satisfied. I found uTube videos like this brings into our awareness just how much we all buy into the hamster wheel. It is a journey to “intentionally” make small changes to actualize a reality you want. Much respect to you sister know most of us here are on a similar journey. I am still on it.💚

when i was a kid i never really understood the pupose of living in a cottage all by yourself in a forest when you can live next to the hollywood sign with your gorgeous modern mansion but now i can really understand why some people would choose being alone and being with nature it is because they know that the main negativity in their life is the environment itself, now id rather live in a cottage on top of the mountains looking up at,the sky seeing the clouds and stars, planting trees and pretty flowers, feeling the wonderful breeze and focusing on yourself and hobbies at the same time.
wish i can live like this in the future, im only 14 which means i still have time to achieve this dream, im so so thankful i had already realised the beauty of nature at a young age very much thankful, maam ur life is a dream

I live in a small house in the middle of main street where all the shops and restaurants are. My favorite thing to do is to sit out on my porch and bring my two indoor cats outside so they can experience the outdoors a little. Haven't been able to do that since summer because the porch turned into a 'storage area', but that is my favorite thing about our current home. Hopefully I'll have it cleared out in time for spring so we can watch the birds again 😊

Georgia, the Peach State. Renovating two properties both over 100 years old. Working towards slow living. We know about not having a shower in your home-ours is in the RV for now. The neat thing about these “inconveniences” is when you have running water, heat, light, or a brand new sturdy kitchen floor you begin to really appreciate the small things. A hot shower and cozy bed become amazing things!

my dad used to live in rural derbyshire in England. When he was a child he used to collect and press flowers with my grandad. It inspired him to become a botanist which he did for 40 plus years. When I was a child when we went out to the country we would collect and press flowers and I've just found all the beautiful books of pressed flowers from my childhood and my dads childhoods. Your pressed flowers are exquisite and stunning, and they reminded me about these books of little pressed flowers.

I live surrounded by forest and hills with deer, wallabies, hares, goanna's as well as an abundance of bird life, cockatoo's that nest across from our home. Their squawks begin our day and end at night as they find their way back home. I couldn't imagine being anywhere else; our rural living within the mountains is so rewarding and every day brings new ventures. Our veranda's that wrap around 3 sides of our home offer us a special place to sit, dream, create, read, listen to the wildlife, or just be. It's a peaceful existence here and I am so grateful to be part of it.

I am now sitting alone after 2 weeks of limited time with others. Each night I speak with my wife (on the phone) as she imagines how nice it must be cuddled up in a blanket in front of the fireplace watching the snow hit the light as it gracefully falls to the ground. It's so detailed. Yet my first project was jewelry again it was my sister who brought beads, wire, tools, and a case. Her friend showed me in one moment the how to make jewerly. Something always leads to more of creating.

Your self-reflecting videos are an indication that life passes on and by so quickly that much is lost in memory experiences to the senses. Connectng with your senses is your fine aspect, and then transforming them into likewise entertaining videos is food for thought to all. You are a person of personal growth learning from all aspects of life and not afraid to live them. Just remember not to take the highs to grandly and the lowes so depressingly. Avoid the extremes of emotions, and then let life lessons to learn take over as you amply demonstrate.

Would love to see your family. It’s so much a part of your story... you remind me of a past boyfriend who grew up in his family’s old farmhouse from the 1800s, middle of a cow pasture in Virginia. He was/is so much like his mamma, collecting birds nests, discarded beetles, sea shells from beach trips, pressed leaves, tree limbs, to decorate mantles and window sills and hang old photos from boughs. I miss his gentleness and curiosity for the natural world - something your family must have passed down to value.
