NBC didnt want to do Fresh Prince, No network did. So QJ got sponsors to back the show, and went back to NBC saying all these companies will advertise if you put this show on. Thats how it got done. Thats an important part.

Alphonso Ribero actually got fired from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air but Will stepped in and told the new boss of NBC he was crucial to the show and Alphonso was the person that often clashed with the first Vivian Banks not Will.
The first mother was better in my opinion. There was nothing wrong with a strong black woman and a strong black man but I think the show's producers didn't want that.
Will smith saying “I’m not an actor” has to be the wildest statement I’ve heard all year. He never knew the true talent he had back then 🥹 Will smith is definitely one of the 🐐 of black actors.
Nothing wild about that statement, every character he embodied, so it was extension of him. When you’re able to make a craft become YOU, it becomes more than the title we give it.

They wanted a patriarchy not a matriarchy. I appreciate the strong father figure in the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Women may have liked the mother knows best outspoken Vivian but I believe the role is common in every black sitcom. Uncle Phil’s stronger male role was important for black men.
The 1st Vivian was the best one. I didnt like the 2nd Vivian. I wouldve hit on Hilary too lol & Ashley lol. I dont like the reboot Fresh Prince. The characters were too different, too opposite. Uncle Phil was skinny, Hilary was dark skinned & Carlton was too dark (evil).

The show was one of the funniest shows ever made! 😂 and I actually only think of this show with the first mom who was great! Love all the cast with the first mom, especially❤
Friends with Benny AND Quincy before twenty five??? I don't want to know those stories. A lot of black artist had stories of which and HIS freak offs!! They were a little more individual experiences.
Did you even watch the video? They literally said %70 of his checks from the show were being taken for the first three years. She left after the three years, meaning while his money was still being taken. So NO he did NOT have the money.
8:30 Anyone that refers to themselves in the 3rd person has a God complex. When Janet Hubert started her sentence with "Janet Hubert", that told me all that I need to know
You left out a key detail... the show was really written for EAZY-E in mind. But he turned down the role. Quincy Jones also really wanted Eazy-E because they wanted a real hard and respected serious rapper to take the role and make jokes around that premise. They actually thought Will Smith was a corny bubble gum rapper and his career as a rapper was fizzilling out during that time. But Will Smith was still famous at the time for his previous albums as a comedic rapper and he made the TV show work because he was doing a comedic rap style in the first place, which transcended into the show which made it successful. Despite his rap career going down the toilet during that time.
What are the great shows out there that started out great but continue to get better and better throughout the years. I know a lot of shows that started out really good and fizzled out around the middle and just hung on until the very end. This show kept strong

Exactly! He sold out to QJ and got put on. Sold his soul for fame. The symbolism is literally in the theme song intro video at the start of each show.
