I loved this reunion so much! I can't believe its been 24 years since the show ended! I just wish in this reunion they would've talked a bit about Michelle. Myra was a memorable character and its heartbreaking how young Michelle was when she passed away, she deserves to be remembered!

I didn't realise it back then but that Jaleel kid was really talented. Playing multiple characters with such ease is impressive, and at that age... nearly impossible.
The chemistry with all these folks it's absolutely amazing. Even off the set it's like watching family matters all over again. CBS couldn't have picked a better cast.
This is what is missing in society today! Family Matters was a show that everyone in the family could sit down together and watch and enjoy. The 90s was a good time ❤️
One of my favorite TGIF shows back in the days! It doesn't matter if you're Black or not, the topics they covered on the show (bullying, gun violence, regular family matters) resonated with everyone. It portrays a regular family and not the stereotypes. Even my dad who doesn't speak English can say and understood "Did I do that?" RIP Grandma and Myra.
@@dinky101 Richie aka Little Richie is that fine light skinned one sitting right there by Harriett in a blue suit. Gwendolyn was a little girl from the show. They were both little kids on the show. Bring shows like this back. You know the one's with the moral of the story. It was nice seeing beautiful Black families like ours on t.v. the ones we could relate to.
I still love watching this show. I wish this generation of kids could experience the type of wholesome shows we had back then that included great life lessons
Wow I just noticed … all the have is Bag Girls Club Love & Hiphop and Heavily Influenced & Suggestive shows they don’t have anything Just Wholesome & Loving … knowing how Tv influence people minds no wonder they are the way they are jow

You’re right but we can still improvise thanks to the Internet. My hubby and I have shown our kids shows such as My Wife And Kids as well as Sister Sister, they watched every season. These shows can be found on RUclips or cable.
This show was a touch of gold. I could always remember watching this with my mom for year's,she's not here anymore but I know she is watching in heaven smiling down laughing. Love ya mom
We just finished watching the whole show on Hulu with our kids. They're 17 and 10, and they completely loved the show!! We would play it as we had dinner. And we laughed so much. Love showing our kids with shows we grew up with ❤
Man o man was this show so amazing to watch as a 90's kid. Even as a non African American this show brings back some many awesome memories and was truly one of the best ever!
"even as a non African American" - the fact that you even felt you had to say this is a sad state of affairs about our modern society. When this show was made we were well on our way to getting past racial divisions, as a white kid watching this show I never once thought "they're black and different", I just thought they're human beings like me. I always compared my own dad to Carl, my grandma to Estelle, and didn't think anything of it.😢 I wish our world today could be more like that
Love Jaleel...he was/ is extremely talented. Didnt realize it as a child, but having rewatched this show now that I have a child (she is 4- she is in love with the show just as O was) Jaleel played the hell out of his roles. And I hear/see the confidence he has now talking about it in this interview. He was a very confident kid back then and knew his craft.
Tell them to bring back Family Matters!!! We want them back! I grew up 4 blocks away from their house in the intro of the show. I played basketball at Wrightwood park across the street from their house on Wrightwood and Ashland on Chicagos Northside. This show is my childhood and relate to a lot of what went on in their show. Please bring them back!!!
@@debrasloan5541 I wouldn’t say better than the Crosby show but just as good. Both shows had the same family feeling. That’s your opinion and you’re entitled to that but why do the two shows have to be compared, they both bought their own uniqueness to tv show about black families. They were in no competition with each other
It was such a great portrayal of the majority of black families. The topics were on point. The love was real. Great programming. Congrats to them all on a job well done. Some are no longer with us but they are not forgotten.
I genuinely feel me and majority of my non-Black peers grew up not only non-racist but anti-racist because of shows like Family Matters, Fresh Prince and Cosby. From the age of 4, I watched Black families be moralistic yet hilarious: doctors, lawyers, judges, policemen, jocks, A-students, preppies, nerds, annoying siblings. Just like me and my family and every other American family. It was so formative to my feelings and ideals regarding social parity.
The introduction of Stefan still has me hot today! That was just awesome. The transformation of character was so real. Taking the elixir and looking at the change for yourself was great. You actually saw Steve disappear. To this day, season 5 episode 8 is my first favourite.
James gave the best rendition of how deep emotions can be even through acting. That is why it is important to be cautious of the roles young children are given.❤
I look at Devon and I'm like I can't believe that's little Richie lol.. cause I don't feel that old but when I look at him, I'm like damn that was a long time ago he was a toddler
And Michelle Thomas who played Steve’s girlfriend Myra Monkhouse. She died a few months after the last episode aired on December 23rd,1998 at the age of 30.
Reginald and Jo came out the gate with the amazing chemistry and hilarious comedic timing and delivery. Family Matters was destined from the demo to be iconic.
Whatever. I am getting sick and tired of these actors coming together on a set... and calling it "a reunion". This is a cast meetup, not a reunion episode. Stop trying to change what a "reunion show" is. They are not in character, they are not acting on the show. Its cute to see the actors being friends on set, and talking about their JOBS. But this is not "a family matters" reunion. Hollywood truly lost all the good writers with these types of productions. These people are sitting here pretending like they are not friends off camera. Its crap, the Martin reunion as well... Who cares about seeing all you people together on a set? You are getting clicks from people who want to see an actual continuation of the damn show. This is a bunch of actors sitting in front of a camera, getting paid to talk about something they did to make money. Stop clicking this bullcrap. Amen
That was THE most beautiful reunion show I’ve ever seen. The love and respect they all have for each other is moving. You hear stuff from the media that there was jealousy and problems when Urkel was introduced but you see none of that here in this reunion. Again, so moving and absolutely beautiful to see and watch. 😎💖
@yvetteg.5067 you just had to see thr Key&Peele spoof on Family Matters. That's actually based on truth about Reginald's and others' dislike on Jaleel
@@seanlauer9222 How wouldn't it be the same? In later years, Mother Winslow was written out of episodes and hardly seen, so it was like she wasn't there anyways. After the 4th season, half of the family was written out or put on the backburner, and would show up every now and then.
This was one of those defining 90's show for me. Along with Fresh Prince, Sister Sister, Step by Step, Charmed, Sabrina the teenage witch, Buffy, The Nanny and Ally McBeal 🧡😌 I'd give anything to relive pop culture and tv in the 90's again 🙏🏻
Thank you People magazine for featuring a Family Matters reunion. The entire cast looks amazing! It's beautiful what the show gave us & sad that we don't have ones like it anymore. Would definitely watch if they did a reboot.
Loved this show! After I moved into my own home, my parents came over on a few Friday evenings, and we roared with laughter. Now, both parents are gone, and I have fond memories of TGIF on ABC.
Growing up, this show was great on any day but the best on a hard day. This family helped shape me. It consoled me. A huge thank you to everyone involved. Especially to Reginald and Ms. Jo Marie! Jo Marie Payton - strong and calming. Thank you.
I was born 1992 in Toronto. I think I started tuning into this show when I was 4 or 5. This show will always have a special place in my heart. So much comedy, love and meaning in this series. Urkel is inarguably up there with Kramer for the most iconic Sitcom character.
I was born in 86 but I remember vividly as a young kid looking forward to new episodes of Family Matters each week. I grew up watching the Winslow's and loved the show. Great to see them all together again.
I cried like a baby lookin at this I miss family matters they made my child hood better and I wish I had a beautiful family like them when I was a kid yall took my pain away thank you 💜❤️
I LOVED this show as a kid. Ms Jill Marie has obviously stopped aging. Wrinkles are obviously scared of her face. It’s so good to see everyone together. They all look so healthy and amazing. I wish Jamie Foxworth was there. She’s so gorgeous and doing so well.
There were so many wholesome funny sitcoms in the 90s. It truly was a golden age and Family Matters was the best of all of them. I enjoyed this so much.
I LOVED me some Perfect Strangers I didn't know that's how Family Matters started. I absolutely loved both theme songs and Family Matters is one of my favorite shows ❤️
This was a phenomenal cast. I watched Ms. Thelma Hopkins in "Gimme A Break" and as one of the "Dawn" in Tony Orlando and Dawn trio. Loved Jo Marie Payton on Perfect Strangers. This cast was wonderful.
@@bloomque5691 Loved Telma in Half and Half. She and Rachel seemed so believable as mother and daughter. Can't believe the show ended on a cliffhanger due in part to the writers' strike.🤦🏽♀️
@@bloomque5691 Right?! Let's say that the producers had taken a viewers' poll to let fans cast their vote for either Chase or Lorenzo. I preferred Lorenzo for Mona. He seemed more easygoing and laid back than Chase. But still even after all these years, I wish the entire series was available on DVD. As for Dee Dee and Brett, I only saw that as an office fling. Were you for Chase, or Lorenzo?
I remember all the cousins would come to grandma’s house on Fridays for the weekend and we would lay on a pallet of blankets on the floor excited to watch TGIF. The good ole days.
I can’t help but notice the contrast of Jaleel White’s self absorbed commentary versus everyone else being humble, grateful and praising of each other.
There is a line between believing in yourself and becoming conceited. It’s a very blurry line and all in all I believe Jaleel just believed in himself from being raised by very smart parents. He was a child in an adult business and he turned out pretty well compared to a lot of kids whose childhood were based on careers in the tv business.
Not sure how the interview was edited, however it would have been nice to hear more commentary from the other cast members as a they each played a significant role in the success of the program.. in particular Reginald Vel Johnson and Kelly Shayne Williams
Jimmy Walker was the exact same way during his years during and after 'Good Times.' The crew didn't like him. And like Urkle. Jimmy Walker's character 'J.J.' became the focal point of the show. That turned both crews of these two shows, off.
it wasn't in this video but there are clips of them talking about Michelle Thomas and how sad they weren't able to say goodbye during her final days because she was very sick
I remember every Friday we'd be outside after school and soon as it atarted getting dark everyone rushed home to watch Familly Matters and all the TGIF shows at 8pm. What a freaking time to be a kid! Playing outside and allll the TV shows, music and movies from the 90s ❤
First and foremost thank you People Magazine for bringing back my childhood again 😢. Brought me so much joy and memories to see these wonderful amazing people come back and tell their stories all over again. I don't know them personally but I'm proud to say they are my imaginary family. I will always remember the 90s for my childhood, innocence, mischievous ways and of course Family Matters 👪 for teaching morals to a kid who needed guidance and love. I love the cast of Family Matters. And may the Great Rosetta aka Stelle rest in wonderful slumber peace. 💖💝
The best show ever filmed. Lots of fun and emotional feelings. These are real actors and actresses. They kept me happy and laughing. I still watch them on cable TV channels.
One of the greatest shows ever, I need a boxed set!! Still comforting, relating and Hilarious to this day!! Much love to them all , rest in peace Michelle Thomas and Rosetta Lenore.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾
Jaleel White was being very professional in this interview because he is spoken numerous times about how the cast treated him bad because he became the star of the show. Even when she said we were a good show but he came in and threw that salt that it needed he was looking like "yeah right you didn't feel that way at the time"
Yes even when he mentioned wanting to be in the pie scene they looked like “of course you wanted in smh” but to want to be in that scene is a little selfish on his part
I think in a past interview he mentioned JoMarie and Reginald had put pressure on him when he did the Myrtle character. They felt that he was doing African American people a diservice being put in a dress. That's when his father said that Jaleel won't do that character again for to the pressure from other adults views. Even though he was just a young teen.
@@lisacox3750 Totally. I mean, he WAS the secret ingredient that made the show so popular, no doubt... but I can't IMAGINE how full of himself he was back then, I mean, look at him here... he ONLY talks about himself. Everyone else's favourite moments were meaningful moments with each other, but his were all about himself, he doesn't even mention anyone else.
This is one of the reasons I loved Friday nights so much as a kid. The school week was over, and it was time to watch Full House and Family Matters, then later Family Matters and Step by Step.
I couldn't stop smiling during watching this, along with laughter and emotion. 💗💐😊💚😔💙💐😆💛 Brings back a lot of memories lol, and still love their theme song. Everyone loved and still love this show.

@nemo pouncey I actually had to go back and look at the thumbnail, I think I know what you’re trying to say. She does look a little different, but either way they’re both beautiful. Blessings.😊
@@alexandradillard2077 oh yeah, Ms. Payton really took it hard when they cut her out. Her being the type of actress she is, she really embodied the character of being their mother. She felt as if she’d lost a child.

We met Reginald VelJohnson and his family at Disneyland. My son was a huge fan. He and his family could have not been more gracious and friendly.
Wo that's cool wat year?
Reginald said in an interview that he doesn't have any children of his own
What family tho he had no children so ill take things that never happened for 2000$
Unless he has necessary or nephews or went with immediate family
Except he never married or had any kids, so what family
This really was such a great show. Family-friendly and hilarious, while also working in serious moral lessons. Growing up with this was great!
💯
Miss these family friendly shows.
Great show !
I didn't realise it back then but that Jaleel kid was really talented. Playing multiple characters with such ease is impressive, and at that age... nearly impossible.
He also was the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog too.
I'll tell u who else was talented, the girl who played Myra. That was good acting. Sadly she died in 98
The chemistry with all these folks it's absolutely amazing. Even off the set it's like watching family matters all over again. CBS couldn't have picked a better cast.

We Need a reboot of this show! I miss this show
Jo and jaleel didn't like each other during the ahow
Yes they have amazing chemistry!
@@StonerKitchen really? I didn’t know that
This is what is missing in society today! Family Matters was a show that everyone in the family could sit down together and watch and enjoy. The 90s was a good time ❤️
I just commented similar to this! It’s very true.
One of my favorite TGIF shows back in the days! It doesn't matter if you're Black or not, the topics they covered on the show (bullying, gun violence, regular family matters) resonated with everyone. It portrays a regular family and not the stereotypes. Even my dad who doesn't speak English can say and understood "Did I do that?"
RIP Grandma and Myra.
@nemo pouncey who was Richie? Or Gwendeyn. Was she the aunt?
@nemo pouncey Sadly she’s no longer with us either.
Awwwwwww myra
@@dinky101 Richie aka Little Richie is that fine light skinned one sitting right there by Harriett in a blue suit. Gwendolyn was a little girl from the show. They were both little kids on the show. But she passed a couple years ago from drowning or something like that. I think she was a big star on glee or something so u may know her from there
@nemo pouncey Judy turned into a pornstar and disappeared off into the streets. 3J aka Orlando brown has a drug addiction and has been struggling....he wasn't a main cast member anyways so that's prolly y he wasn't there. Judy was barely even a main character and she was one of the siblings
The ENTIRE cast looks amazing!!!!
They’ve aged GRACEFULLY 🏆
Black don't crack
Look at Harriet!!! Looks just as good as her own show kids
agreed!
Yeah, she looks the same.

Love showing our kids with shows we grew up with ❤
Wow, we’re doing the same and it’s such a great time!
One of my favorites! ❤❤
No reboot is necessary.
Let's leave well enough alone folks.
This was a great show and doesn't need one.
😝Totally & that was so cool he said Martin Short was his influence
You are so right!!!
Definitely was method acting before it was a thing
Jaleel really is talented! Especially because he played MULTIPLE characters but was able to play EACH ONE to perfection.
Awesome!💖⭐💖⭐
The marathon has been on Sundays lately on TV One
One of the best family sitcoms of all times!!!
Way better than the Cosby show
Don’t make shows like this anymore , and that’s so sad !
I started watching this year and I loved the show! Already season 5😂watching very night
The casting couldn't be better. Hearing their back stories and how it all came together makes it even better.
Positive black stories. Not the ratchet trash that runs rampant in todays “Black Stories”.
The introduction of Stefan still has me hot today! That was just awesome. The transformation of character was so real. Taking the elixir and looking at the change for yourself was great. You actually saw Steve disappear. To this day, season 5 episode 8 is my first favourite.
It made the character look and act more mature than he actually was, which was interesting.
Sorry he is just not attractive. ‘Always looks comical. ‘Always Urkel !
James gave the best rendition of how deep emotions can be even through acting. That is why it is important to be cautious of the roles young children are given.❤
King Memories: Amen! ♥️🙏♥️
It's dope that Bryton James built another career for himself by being on The Young And The Restless.

That was THE most beautiful reunion show I’ve ever seen. The love and respect they all have for each other is moving. You hear stuff from the media that there was jealousy and problems when Urkel was introduced but you see none of that here in this reunion. Again, so moving and absolutely beautiful to see and watch. 😎💖
@reyesvaldez2496 If there wasn’t an Urkel then there wouldn’t be a family matters. Period. So they owe everything to him.

But if they’re planning to do a Reboot of Family Matters it’s not going to be the same without Momma Winslow Garland

This show had so much sentimental values that they made you feel like you were a part of there family.
I was born 1992 in Toronto. I think I started tuning into this show when I was 4 or 5. This show will always have a special place in my heart. So much comedy, love and meaning in this series. Urkel is inarguably up there with Kramer for the most iconic Sitcom character.

I can’t help but notice the contrast of Jaleel White’s self absorbed commentary versus everyone else being humble, grateful and praising of each other.
I was thinking the same exact thing!
Same!

His body language is totally showing he was not happy to be there!
Jaleel is full of himself too though to be fair. Every one is adults now and they know how to be professional. That's all that matters.
@@lisacox3750 Totally. I mean, he WAS the secret ingredient that made the show so popular, no doubt... but I can't IMAGINE how full of himself he was back then, I mean, look at him here... he ONLY talks about himself.
