This is by far one of my overall favorite soups. The owner of my local Chinese restaurant heard congestion in my voice and said "you need Hot and Sour Soup to break up your chest"......She was NOT lying after eating this soup my chest and nose opened right up and I began to feel better. Been eating it ever since, especially when you feel a cold coming on
This wasn't even hot and sour soup. Where's the mushrooms? Where's the tofu? The sour part was cooked out of the soup, as the vinegar goes in at the end.
I tried it couple of times and everything it turns out so yummy...I don't usually comments on RUclips but the authenticity and taste of this receipe compelled me to comment ❤
Quick and easy to make. A lot more hot than sour. I will make it again and half the white pepper and siracha, and also add the vinegar at the end as others have suggested
This thing turned out to be my favourit soup. Very delicious and thanks for the receipe. What i do different is, that I boil a whole chicken, with carrots, selerie, leek and spices for at least one hour. Afterwards I remove the meat from the bones and skin and pressurecook the soup with the meat in 1 litre glasses (appr. 6-7 glasses). So I have always "the real thing" available and I dont have to use stock cubes, which makes a difference in the taste.
I tried this recipe and it ain't good. First, don't use chicken cubes, they don't have good taste, and they contain MSG. Second, this soup has too much sweetness to it, don't add sugar. And there isn't good sour taste, you need to use black vinegar and more of it. Sriracha sauce is also wrong as well as chili garlic sauce, don't use anything but white pepper. Bell peppers don't fit in my view. But bamboo and mushrooms are a must. And by golly, no chicken, you can add slightly marinated pork.
Hot tip: Wait with the vinegar until just before you take it off the heat, or even until just before it's served. Also forgot to mention the obvious: it's incredible. Made it 3 times last month. But I can recommend using just under half a teaspoon (or to taste) of cayenne instead of white pepper. Maybe it's just me, but the white pepper smells really bad.
@@fitnessclub3865 Cayenne pepper is a spice that has the heat of chili's, without it burning all the way down to your stomach. It's great if you want things to be spicy, but not the long burn of chili peppers.
It is Sunday, and I usually do not cook on Sundays, just a good breakfast. But, after watching this video, I am making this soup now. I have all the ingredients. The only thing is that I will add sliced pieces of tofu and pieces of ginger. I am vegetarian and I do not eat meat. It looks very easy and tasty. Thanks!
Just cooked the soup: Best recipe ever! For years I searched for a recipe which is comparable to Chinese restaurants (in Germany). NOW I found it! Please allow these changes resp improvements (just my taste): 1 liter Chicken broth instead of water, and 7-8 TBSP starch (tapioka). Only 1/2 minute waiting for stirring the egg.
I can't wait to cook the vegan version of this ! I'll substitute fried salted & peppered oyster mushrooms and broken silken tofu with a bit of black salt. I'm looking forward to this. *.*
Make it a few times and adjust the ingredient amounts as ou go. You'll find your perfect bowl of Hot and Sour Soup. Mabe I missed it ..... the creator used Siracha sauce and please realize that is not traditional and will add heat and change the overall flavor a bit. MAybe I missed this .... White Pepper. In traditional Hot and Sour Soup the heat comes from White Pepper. At about 02:30, we simmer the soiup for a couple of minutes. Add the white pepper and and Vinegar right before you take the soup off the heat. White Vinegar is sharp compared to Chinese Vinegars. [ you can use Chinese Dark Vinegar or substitute Balsamic Vinegar ] Taste. Adjust. Stir. Taste Adjust, Stir, Taste .... and you will get your perfect bowk of Hot and Sour Soup.
Absolutely gorgeous soup, thank you for this recipe, very easy to follow and im not the best at cooking at all, im eating this almost every week now, cant get enough of it lol, Thank you very much
Spilled ever bit of this soup into the bowl and danged if ever bite wasn't eaten. So good, hot soup on the coldest day of your life. Yes, it's worth it, yes, it's good, yes soup is good, but one taste of that hot and sour soup, you could've done broke the mold🧃
If I make chicken soup from scratch, can I use that instead of water and chicken stock cubes? The chicken meat would be in there too so that sounds like a good base, no?
Chinese soups are very delicious like Turkish, Kurdish soup. Turkish and Chinese products are best like Pakistani products. They are cheap and affordable for everyone.
How can you praise adulterated products of a beggar country like 🇵🇰..??? Cheap doesn’t mean that it has quality…. Pakistani products are all adulterated & are of very bad quality….
Made this today... First time through precisely followed the recipe... Except when it came to Sriracha... Said to myself, two tablespoons is a lot of Sriracha... Put in one... I like spicy food but still way over the top... Will use two teaspoons next time... Otherwise good... A bit more savory than typically found in Asian themed restaurants... A little disappointed there... Oh, and I did use my own homemade chicken stock... No bullion cubes...

Exactly. Sometimes I really like to have the Buldak 2x Spicy ramen as well cos as I say, that soup gets the evil spirits away. 😀

Not just you. I’ve the same problem. White pepper stinks

Cayenne pepper

Correct about the vinegar. It can break down the corn starch into smaller units, diminishing its thickening capabilitiy.

Replaced the chicken by very small tofu cubes, no meat at hand. Very delicious!
That’s one of my “must order food” in takeaway 👍🏻
Recept vypadá jednoduše, ale o víkendu jej zkusím :) Dík za tip
Needs some dried shiitake for sure. Looks delicious

Awesome soup, added some cabbage and mushrooms to the mix.
Substituted tofu for the chicken. Very good recipe. Tasty and opens the nasal and sinus cavities. Yum!
Just what we are craving! Really hits the spot on these cool damp days.

Thank you ! my fav takeaway soup ... made at home ... simple when shown how!
Yum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please make prawn soup ..
only question is why to use stock cubes, when you still have to bois your chicken? Homemade stock is muuuuch better
It’s a really good recipe. Thank you 😊
yummy
It looks like my favorite takeaway version, must make it.

Yes that will work wonderfully! 👍
What were the green chillis sitting in before adding at the end? Are they just in water to stay fresh or is it white vinegar?
It is white vinegar. You can add some at the end for more heat.
A flexible recipe, you can substitute a lot of other different ingredients.
Uffff looks so delicious MA 😍
Thanks a lot!
nice! carrots to replace bamboo shoots. I can find carrots

A question in place of chicken could i use tofu? Please confirm.
Yes you can.
I dont have dark soy sauce and sesame oil. Any alternative?
Skip them.
When the recipe says vinegar what type of vinegar is used please
Here I have used white vinegar.
What is the serving size? You have not mentioned it anywhere.
What is the instrumental sample you used for this?
Not quite the same as the original. But an excellent time saving alternative.
If i want to add prawns ?
Yes you can.
No straw mushrooms or tofu? No French cut string beans?
Delicious 😋
Thank you!

Does anyone know what vinegar is used?
White vinegar
@@chilitochoc thank u so much
I have bronchitis, just made this.
All the vinegar cooked out. You don't add it nor the sesame oil till the end/before serving.
tofu? prawns?
No mushrooms?
Just all sauce mix water basically
Everything was good with the soup except the spice was over the top spicy. Would be better cut in half.
I stopped at the bell pepper
Hot and sour soup does not have bell peppers in it!
dont use starch, just cook the thing longer
You forgot the tofu strips
No mushrooms? I'm so lost.
Interesting, no fungus or tofu
I payed f ing 6 pound for this off my local china woman
💞Wow💜💜🤍💜💜💜💜💜
Where are the bamboo shoots?!?!
95% liquid
cat get your tongue
no schrooms 🤔
SEEMS YUM!!! AM WAITING TO GET MY TEETH INTO IT.❤
Too much white pepper ruins it for me.
