I tried with black Chinese vinegar but it didn't taste quite right so I tried with white vinegar. The white vinegar gave it just the right taste for us ! Thank you for your great recipes !!

Likewise, used black vinegar and it didn't taste right. I'll try white vinegar next time.

I tried black vinegar and the soup seemed to be overall too vinegary. I got all the proportions correct. I added a pinch or 2 of sugar to each bowl of soup and it was perfect, it balanced the black vinegar out.

I made this last night & it tasted better than what I have in the restaurants around here! Thank you so much! I modified it just a bit; although I love meats- no pork (Pescatarian), I didn't use as much white pepper and I actually used amino in place of the soy sauce & apple cider vinegar in place of the reg vinegar... it still tasted amazing.

I made this recipe today and found it to be wonderful!!!! I did however kick up the heat after tasting it by adding a tablespoon of dry Garlic and Sriracha seasoning blend from Tone's to suit my heat level and substituted rice vinegar as I had this in my pantry . With that said I will making this often and put a bowl in the freezer to see how well it stores. When I think of hot and sour soup I already had a taste in mind and this recipe surpassed that. I would put this recipe up against anything I've ever had in Szechuan China. Bravo Seonkyoung!

thank you for the recipe. my husband and I are eating hot n' sour soup now. I will never buy hot n' sour soup anymore now that I know how to make it.
I was pressed for time, no time to order dried shitake and black fungus online. used fresh button mushroom as substitute. I wanted to serve this gluten free so I didnt put flour on the meat. didn't have pork, I substitited chicken. I'm yet to master how to put the scrambled eggs. over all, I give this recipe 10/10.
this is one of my comfort food when I'm sick. I didn't realise its sooo easy to make. again, thank you! :)

  • @silentj624

I added three eggs, 12oz tofu (it didn't come smaller than that and I have absolutely no other use for it) and 6-8 cups chicken broth. I didn't space out the vinegar where it mentions it because I'd never made it before but the flavor was too strong for my liking. There also wasn't enough liquid for my taste. Added broth until it got better. I also added more ginger since I lost it bit once the broth was added.
Sesame oil and green onions are a must.
    Black fungus mushrooms are weird.

I sometimes use red wine vinegar and red chili flakes. I like this soup sour and hot!
