Its wild seeing this like 2 years later and seeing how this whole community has gotten more accessible. you've got Omnitype with in stock gmk (like theres 8008 around 60 usd including shipping when it goes on sale) and plenty of real good kits around or under 100.
This isn't even mentioning how far its gone in the budget space with boards like the Sugar and Lucky 65 being aluminum boards and even the neo series. Insane.

Thank you, I really appreciate it. Yeah if you can't directly buy it due to stock limitations, then there is nothing you can do to support the creator.
It's not that buying the aftermarket set would help the creator, it's that buying the clone helps the clone manufacturers produce more clones :)
@@akarshy Yeah, I get that. However I do think that whenever there is a demand for something, there will always be someone trying to fill that gap (and produce more clones), because at the end of the day if the consumer can't support the original work then they won't feel as bad about buying off-brand items (because their only other choice would be to give up on that item).
@@akarshy supply and demand 101, if they aren't gonna keep producing the original GMK Olivia sets then someone is going to step in and do it for them. It's pretty simple economics, and the fact that these companies run these group buys for ridiculous prices to begin with and then stop is pretty dumb. It only makes sense that someone else steps in and fills the void after they go off market.
I think the only clones that are really harmful to creators are the ones that come out while a real set is in production and hasn’t shipped yet. But even then, most of the people who are buying clones just can’t afford or can’t justify the gmk set. And with sets like olivia being 400+ on a good day, I honestly can’t blame people for buying clones. I will say though, there are sets out there for the same price as the clones that aren’t directly ripping off an artists work, so keep that in mind. Overall it’s a great beginner build, and welcome to the hobby (:

How to piss people in community: buy clones. Dang, not everyone have that privilege to buy the original one.

So maybe don't buy GMK keycaps and choose cheaper alternatives like kbdfans, keychron or litteraly any other brand which are probably better than the GMK clones.

Yeah the people who think that shit are elitists and actually just idiots tbh. If you are going to only make something for 2 months and then after that its over and the only way to get them is from group buys expect people to clone them for cheaper. Probably the worst part about the custom keyboard industry is the obsession with GMK keycaps and gatekeeping people for buying clones when its damn near impossible to get the originals.

My guy I have a good bit of gmk sets and let me say it’s not worth the money and the packaging is garbage literally not worth it in any way. Don’t let anyone let you feel bad about clones cause GMK doesn’t care about ripping consumers off

Honestly how hard is it to design keycap switches colors? Its black, white and pink. If your designing illustrations or fonts then yeah its harder, but most keycaps have the same fonts and shape, they just differ in colour.
clone keycaps are not about the color but the novelties

lmao, I was worried that the keycaps I ordered would be clones as well, but it turns out that those were a diffrent shade of blue than the GMK original set

Its because the designer gets no benefits from the selling of clones. Personally, I think this set is fine because of no novelties but I also don't think he acted that harsh.

Very good Job on the board. that was excellent. Dont mind what he says about clones keycaps. the board looks great and so long as you are happy with it, that is all that matter
for his remarks about the clone keycaps here is what i have to say about it.
when the creators (gmk) already way over charge on keycaps then take 6 months -2 years to arrive and when they do arrive they have defects and or missing keys i cant support them.
1st if you are paying $125-$200 retail for keycaps set they should be perfect. no missing keycaps, no tooling marks nothing. they all should be perfect.
2nd if they take, ( sometimes up to ) 2 years to arrive it should be 100% perfect.
I ordered my first GMK set and they arrived with tooling marks on the sides of the keycaps.
and 3rd GMK are horrible quality. they wear out so fast. i can buy a $60 clone that last 10x longer before they start to shine. my Mecha-1 gmk caps started to shine after 1 week. and not a little shine but complete glossy smooth with no texture and oil/greasy feeling despite me washing my hands very often and gently cleaning the caps.
i will never be buying GMK again. they look nice but not with the money.

please don’t buy clones, there are so many good pbt sets from novelkeys, omnitype, and cannonkeys. Imagine you spending so much time designing a keycap set just to have it cloned.
