- How to make a song using loops in GarageBand iOS (iPhone/iPad) - all 5 loop types
Did you know there are five different ways to use loops in GarageBand iPhone and GarageBand iPad?
In this video, I show you how to use al five types and in the process build a song that’s a little different from my usual style!
The five types of loops in GarageBand iOS that I cover are:
1. Imported WAV/MP3 files
2. Drummer loops
3. MIDI loops
4. Apple loops (audio files)
5. Live loops Видеоклипы
Hi Pete
Just finding this in 2024 😂
Thank you very much for a great informative video as always. ❤
Awesome! Welcome to the community. Better late than never my friend.
Online learning got me here
Pretty amazing the amount of free information at our fingertips yeah?!
Pete Johns it is easy to understand , thanks for the info
You’re welcome. 🙏
Cheers man! Same here

Hey Pete! Just wanted to add this bit of info: I used to use a PC program called ACID back years ago, and they had a huge library of loops of all kinds that you could buy on CD’s. I had built up a pretty sizable collection, but they all ended up in storage several years back. I recently found them and copied them over to a usb flash drive - so far about 12 CD’s worth, with lots of room for more on 32Gb flash drive - I connected the flash drive to my iPad with the camera connection kit, and I can import them directly into GB, and they behave just as in the old program, and just like GB loops, with pitch and tempo and beat mapping all responding and stretching accordingly. Just an FYI if there are any old guys like me that may have old loop libraries. Cheers!
Brilliant Kevin! Yes, I’ve heard similar reports of loops that have the ability to beat match and time street like this. Are these WAV file format? I’m trying to work out what is needed to make your own samples like this but information online is light on...
Pete Johns: yes, wav files. They were called “acidized” wav files. They have additional imbedded tempo and pitch information. Must be very similar to the Apple loops. There was another Sony program called Sound Forge, a audio editor, that I believe allowed you to add this info to your own files.
Awesome! Thanks for the additional info. 👍
Thanks for the additional info! Much appreciated. 👍
Kevin Martin amazing! Wish I had that hard drive! Wonder where I can find heaps of loops to do that with
Now check out this old school loops demo from 3 years ago - ruclips.net/video/_Xhe1ga40B8/видео.html

Thank you so much! I was getting so frustrated trying to figure this out, then found this video and had no problem! Damn, I hate the cell things in the Live Loops 😅 it was super helpful to be able to have the track like this and I was actually able to have fun and make diverse music!

@@PeteJohnsMusic thank you. Not used DAWs since early 2000’s; so nice to follow a rational approach… especially like the external sample example! Got a film to ‘Nick’ some stuff from, and mash accordingly. Cheers. Dave

Yes! This video was really informative. I've imported a project with a bunch of loops and needs Live Loops to get everything lined up (gah...had to do a workaround on file import since the usual way only does one file at a time). Everything played back fine, but I had a timing issue when triggering scenes. And yep, had to fix the project tempo (and also set the key in case I want to use Apple Loops). So cool, because I can import the goods into Logic....not just the loops, but maybe a rough arrangement I'd record in Tracks View. Nice, nice. Thanks!
Nice one! Glad it helped. Sometimes a few hacks are needed but we get there in the end!
@@PeteJohnsMusic Ah, the hacks! Yeah, found that out several times, and there's been more than one time that one of your hacks has gotten me out of.a bind. I still think GB for iOS is one of the most useful music apps on the platform, and now Live Loops will get that much more useful as I get deeper into music production. Keep at it, Pete!
Mind blown! I thought I knew how to use loops. I didn't. I've got a long plane ride coming up and you just showed me my entertainment.
Haha! Gold. Yes, it is amazing how much you can do with loops and how flexible they can really be.
And don’t worry, I’m still learning something new about GarageBand pretty much every day. It’s why I haven’t moved on to other DAWs yet - still so much to explore!
@@PeteJohnsMusic I just deleted Cubasis. I tried it. I know that it has lots of cool features and is probably more advanced than GB, but I just don't have the bandwidth to learn something new. If I'm learning something new, I'm not making music. GB just keeps getting better and I don't feel the need. I do play with Korg Gadgets. I don't know how to use it with GB. Ding ding ding! A new video suggestion.
Hey Pete! Yeah, at some stage I feel perhaps that I shouldn’t test out more apps but it would involve pushing my music creation and just not sure it would be worth it.
I will run out of GB videos eventually so I guess then! 😄
Thanks man!

EXcellent!

Thanks my friend. 👍🙏
How do you make loops follow the chord structure of a song?
Thanks! Till now I was making songs in live loops 😅😅 but now I'm gonna make some real music.
Edit:- I just found the right channel for me! Many many thanks from the core of my heart!

Hey Pete, thanks for the video. I was wondering: whats the difference between the drummer loop and using drummer the 'normal' way?
Hey there. Thanks my friend. This is a good question and one that’s going on my list for a future video.
In essence, there is no real difference. Drummer loops just lets you use the predetermined “intro, chorus, verse” etc rather than needing to dial in appropriate settings and changing these for each part.
This guy needs more subs but I hope this helps I subed and likes
Thank you! Really appreciate it.
Pete Johns welcome hope you reach 50k
Is there a way to follow tempo and pitch on a merged track?
Hey there. Audio recorder (blue) tracks don’t allow for following tempo and pitch unfortunately .
Can you use your imported loops in the piano mode instead of the sampler or do you have to use your midi keyboard?
Hey there. You can use a MIDI keyboard to play a Sampler track or the Sampler instrument. But you can’t import and use samples on the regular piano.
Thanks peteski
Very welcome. 🙏
thank you!
Very welcome my friend. I hope you get value from the other videos here on the channel Carol, and consider subscribing.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Hello Pete! Subscribed! I really enjoy your videos. Very informative! I'm looking at your Vids now.! I also have a question about connecting equipment. I have the Zoom L8 and want to use my ipad mini (for garage band ) to create music. I have the Presonus Eris BY 3.5 monitors that have: a pair of balanced 1/4" TRS line-level inputs as well as a pair of unbalanced RCA line-level inputs (unsure where to input and cable). I have a surface pro 4 that I would like to use but have a mac if needed. I please need your help with setting all this up.
Thank you
No worries Carol. Perhaps shoot me an email with some more detail about exactly what you’re looking to set up and record? pete@studiolivetoday.com
I use my Zoom L8 with my PC but haven’t had much luck using it with iOS just yet.
Hello Pete. I sent the email. Its coming from Carolscreative7@gmail.com. Thank you! Please feel free to ask me any questions.

hey! i just want to loop one section of my track one singular time and then have it shut off, how can you export your audio with it only looping once?
i need a way to not manually turn it off
You’ll just need to copy and paste the audio if you want it to play twice. ruclips.net/video/qUW6mD5EdQw/видео.html
Hey pete, please make a video on how to create backing tracks specially on guitar.. 😊
Hey there my friend. I his is definitely something that’s on the list. Thanks for your support.
Hi Pete, decided to try using loops.I knew you must have a video somewhere , :-) but I have NO green loops ...??? any solution ? I have the latest update from Apple
No loops at all under Apple Loops? Never come across that before. Make sure all the filters are off and try again. Should be several hundred there even with just the base version installed.
Pete Johns hi Pete. Thanks for the prompt reply, will get back to you on this.I do have loops ..but..not the green bass midi loop that you used ?
I will play around with the filters and see what I can find, take care now
Do you have Arabian loops for garage band?
Don’t believe there are a heap of those sort of loops on the sound packs. You might need to find and download some.
ruclips.net/video/PBTz8J5LxeA/видео.html
Since when was there a whole loop section for slide guitar? I can’t find it. Has it been removed?
I’m not sure sorry? Make sure you’ve downloaded all the sound packs - ruclips.net/video/Frw2VPSJhB8/видео.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic Okay. Thanks mate.
Thumbs up if pete is a Genius.
Haha! I won’t thumbs up personally because that would be weird. 😁
Thanks for being awesome. 😎
Thank you but how do I loop a n acoustic guitar track?
Hey there. Go in to the settings and turn on looping and you should be able to loop your own audio tracks. Or use copy and paste. studiolivetoday.com/garageband
@@PeteJohnsMusic awesome I was hoping you had a link leading to beginner tutorials and everything. Thank you so much!!❤️
Sir try to make remix acapella using loops only
Hi there my friend. I have been meaning to try some a cappella songs at some stage, so I will keep this in mind!
Do I HAVE to get loops from there? Can’t I just make my own? That’s what I’ve been trying to do. I’ll record some base and then I’ll loop it then the loop is completely off. You can listen and tell where the loop is. It doesn’t sound nice and smooth at all.
Hi there. This video might help you with some tips to do this - ruclips.net/video/0O3UczxtkqU/видео.html
Pete Johns THANK YOU 🙏🏽 HAVE A GREAT DAY
How to live loop free handed guitar and keyboard ????
Yeah not sure exactly what the question here is? Live loops is very much geared towards virtual instruments and loops.
I’m having trouble. When I grab an apple loop and drag it lands on another track. What am I doing wrong
Hey there. It should stop wherever you drop it. Just hold it down and drag all the way to the bottom.
I think the problem was on my iPhone there isn’t that much room as in the iPad. I tried what I was doing on my iPhone on my iPad and no problems there. Thanks.
Nice tutorial but what are you doing after 16 bars and with modulation. With that kind of loops you are usually only in one key so at the end it is quite boring.
Yeah. It’s an art form to add enough variation with just loops.
This is the problem I have (as a newbie). To change key or have the loops correspond with a tune I've created on the keyboard etc (not sure if it's possible)
Do you have a link to the drum break sound
Not sure o have a direct link to exactly that sound sorry? Pretty sure if you just search “drum break” on freesound.org you’ll find it or something similar.
@@PeteJohnsMusic oh ok thanks

thumbs up if you wanna see Pete at ultra music fest 2020!
ok gonna have to watch this a few times, have no idea what happened
There’s a lot of info in a short time there so have an experiment and then come back to review.
Hi there Pete!! I designed a “GarageBand Visual EQ Chart”, which lays out the frequency spectrum and where some instruments & sounds fit best. It has been immensely useful to myself and my partners. I’d like to share it with you and your other viewers! Where can I send it to? It’s a jpg.
Regards,
-Aldrich Z
Hi there Johnny iam terry from Grand Rapids. I would love to get that visual EQ chart. It will definitely help me in fiting the best instruments in the right frequency spectrum thank you
Already got a request there Johnny! Make sure you get in touch. 👍
Wow! Let's see
@@peteandpuy Where can i send it to? I don't think RUclips allows personal messages
