    Although that grouping wasn't ideal, that load "as is" could work for hunting, but you might be able to tune the load with some seating depth tests. The SD wasn't bad so there is hope. Also, I like seeing the reloading info and range footage in a single video. I'm looking forward to seeing you dial this in.

      The chrono numbers weren't too bad and we can still go up about 1.5gr as per the book data. I'm going to try some other charges and see if it will tighten up at all. I was just trying to pick a safe load and get some trigger time in. That goal was achieved, but now it's time to actually dial in a suitable load. Thanks and happy Sunday!

    Don’t give up on Hornady 150’s, my son just shot .75 at 100 with my 308. I love hornady 150’s for a good cheap 150fmj. All other fmj suck, especially 147 m80. If I had a group like that, I would clean the barrel and back down on the powder and do a ladder test. I know most powders do well towards the top of the charge range, but I have had a few that like mid powder charges. Good luck , and like the vids.

      Yep, we just landed on a bad charge here. I already have a batch loaded up to actually test. I went higher on the charges but have heard a few times the lower ones might perform better. I guess we'll probably have to test that if I don't have any luck higher up. I do like this bullet and have had good results with other powders so I'm sure we can get something going with this combo. Thanks for watching 🇺🇸 👍

    You remind me of some of the dudes at my range trying to sight in their rifles with factory ammo. They will sit there and burn up a couple boxes of cartridges and then finally get up and say, "That's close enough!" [Laffin' 😄]

      That's what happens when you pick a random charge, I suppose. Going to do a real work up with other charges and shoot some groups, there was plenty of room to work up per the book data. Can only get better from here, right? Thanks for stopping by - have a great week!

    I used CFE-223 in my Ruger Scout .308 with several 150 grain bullets. Never very accurate but I got consistent 1.5" groups at 48.0-48.5 grains of powder. At 49.0 and up groups opened to 2+ inches. This was with Lapua brass. Sure is frustrating when things go haywire.

      Oh, wow. Maybe I'm a little hot. I'll have to try going the other direction, although I just loaded some going hotter 😅

    I have not tried CFE223 powder. Fed210 and Hornady 150 grain FMJ are familiar to me though but much slower in the 2600-2700fps range. I need to fine tune my 150 gr 'ball' loads as well for my M1A. I like your humor of trying to measure the group. I make fun of my groups at times too.

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  Год назад +1

      These rounds were moving pretty quickly, but no pressure signs. I do remember these bullets shooting much better right at 2700fps with a different powder. Sometimes you land on a good one, most others, not so much 🤣

    Have not loaded CFE using 150's but have done a lot of ELDM's 168's and 178. 168's for accuracy likes around 45-46. Have shot .75" groups in this range. The 178's liked around 44.5 to 45.3. The hotter you go the more the pattern looked like buck shot, have gone as high as 48.5 with 168 and 47.5 with 178's. This was done in short barrel semi autos. Heavy charges also started to create too much port pressure prematurely unlocking the bolt. Never chrono'd the loads but my elevation dial tells me the velocity is higher than I can get out of 4166, 4895 and 4064. Very brass friendly. Maybe with a heavy match barrel the groups would tighten?? But I think a thin barrel is going to whip too hard to be consistent.

      It might be too slow a powder for a bullet of this weight. But, there's also 1.5gr before getting to the book max, so we can keep working up. My barrel is 22", I believe. It's not a heavy barrel, but it's not a pencil, either. We just need to find the proper charge weight, and if that doesn't work, a faster burning powder. I'll have to give it a try with 168 and 175s at some point, too. Thanks!

      @@DummyRound Appreciate the video. Btw I was using FC and LC case which weight around 177 grains and have about 2 grains less h20 weight than thin walled cases. I believe hogden does its testing with thin walled brass and why it has the highest charge weights. Good luck and look forward to future videos!

    Ha ha! Even when you have, as you said a dumpster fire the sound effects are great! Crappy shooting is still shooting. Way to stay positive. Keep it up dude. Great video. Ha ha.

    Man 150gr load, definitely not a plinking round. That will go through a bottle of powder quickly !

      150gr bullet, but only 50gr of powder. Still goes through the powder quickly!

    I do hope you persue this. I have done random loads before with similar results. Trying to tune them in with a tuner-brake. If a load is bad enough you can't even fix it with a tuner. I would like to see someone with good results with something other than a 223/5.56. I do like the powder for that rifle but never had a chance to try it on my 308.

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  Год назад

      I already have 5 groups loaded up for actual testing. We can go up or down in charge weight until we find a decent accuracy node. Then we can do further testing with OAL adjustments, and finally the tuner break after that. It started as a random charge, but I think we can find something more usable with all these tools and techniques available to us. Thanks🇺🇸👍

    I'd rather go with 2700 - 2800 fps loads that will group them in there . CFE223 might be too slow burning for your 308 ?

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  Год назад

      It's definitely a slower burning powder and might work better with some heavier bullets. Working up towards the max load and seeing if it will tighten up at all. Thanks!
