      This comment section is the perfect place to brag about the cute little mini CRT television I just bought! I already have a couple of the big ones, and I'd been kinda-sorta hoping to find a small one, although I hadn't put much thought into it.
      I got it for $18 and I could probably sell it for at least $50 if I wanted to, the smaller CRTs are actually much more sought after than the larger ones. Retro gamers like to use them, I think they prefer the smaller ones because they're so much more portable.
      Mildly interesting fact: a 24 inch CRT is about 4 times heavier than a 12 inch CRT, because of math and physics or something. CRTs are vacuum sealed so they actually have a massive suction force on the inside, and the glass screens need to be thick enough to withstand that force. And because the screen is square-ish, that means that a screen "twice the size" actually has four times as much surface area. That's why CRTs are so damn heavy, and why you never see a CRT larger than 34 inches or something like that.
      Cheers :)

    Your DVD finds at Value Village reminded me of an amusing anecdote:
    I used to work in a movie rental store, and in 2005, a woman came in asking if we had a copy of a movie called "Chowse". We all kept scratching our heads trying to think what on earth this movie was that none of us had heard of. It turned out to be the new Jason Statham movie "Chaos", and she literally just didn't understand how to pronounce the word. Definitely had a good laugh over that.

    Just a random note; I used to work at Value Village in Canada and the reason the stickers are on the spine like that is for the employees to see the colour of the sticker. Each colour is the different days those items come out and they usually cycle through them throughout the week. An employee would go through at the end of the week and grab the colour that was at the beginning of the week and usually, the price decreased based on how long it's been there. Not sure if they still do this, but it also frustrated me how those stickers covered the name. They did it on books too but thankfully it was a much smaller sticker.

  • @TheNobod3
    @TheNobod3 6 месяцев назад +16

    Value Village puts the price tag on the DVDs' spines because they use the different colors to tell how long they've been on the shelf. The tag color for new items changes every week, and if something sits on the shelf for 2 months, it gets recycled.

    The Castle is a classic Australian comedy that was quoted endlessly in Australia by everyone in the late nineties (and continues to be on occasion). I wasn’t a fan of it myself, but I did understand why other Aussies liked it. it would be a lot of fun to go on a thrifting adventure with ian, it just seems like such a chill (but still fun) experience fr. Especially since he visits stores I've never had the pleasure of going to, I saw a book I've been REALLY wanting recently in just his HALF PRICE BOOKS footage, frankly I'm jealous

    Always glad to see a new Ian McThrifty upload! Fun fact for you, Moose. "Australiens" was a film the company I currently work at (Gravitas Ventures) was responsible for distributing! Nice to see our work randomly out in the wild, in Seattle all the way from Cleveland. Too bad most of our movies are terrible!

    i used to live in this area of Everett, and even worked at the tj maxx that's in the Everett Mall plaza from your other video. after covid hit and my dad got sick, my sister and i packed up and drove back home to SC. seeing you go around to all of these stores that i used to visit and pass by everyday really makes me happy and homesick at the same time. i hope you'll keep this series up!

    If you ever visit the UK you'll find a ton of DVD's in our charity shops, there's always a bookshelf or two filled to the brim! Though for some reason our charity shops no longer sell CD's, at least my local ones anyway. But I love a good rummage through second hand shops, you'll never know what you'll find and the money you spend usually goes to a good cause! :D

    This is bringing back so many memories. I remember going to the Lynnwood Goodwill and getting a used, in-box PS2 for $260 or something for my sixteenth birthday. I also remember going to a Value Village when I was way younger, sometimes getting a bag of Hot Wheels cars I think. Great video as always.

      Hope you have better luck there than me it's the worst job I've ever had I operated the donation drive through and the amount of awful people I had to deal with and having to put all the cool items in the online store bin as well as having to scrap all the encyclopedias and educational books because they didn't sell well really crushed all the love I had growing up thrifting there with my mom like one day someone brought in a n64, SNES and sega with a ton of games each and im talking like 10 games each at least worth around 30 dollars each and a collection of action figures based on different famous writers it all went to the online bin that's all the sort of stuff that made me love goodwill as a kid and why I'll never shop there again they figured out how to filter out all the fun interesting random items so all the stores are left with is cheap garbage and all the good items get sold online at about the same price as any other online site like it like eBay for example
