Really cool that Ian finally got the budget for an official English dub.
Must have been tough localizing from the distant Ianglish
Neat'o Bonitos!!
I actually thought my computer was dying lmao
I kinda prefer the original Korean dub
@@midniteGMG I literally lol'd
i bet when he realized the mic wasn't recording the entire time a heavy sigh was heard around the world.
I was wondering what that noise was. 😂
so thats what that was
I thought that just the wind
Hm.... No wonder it was windy this week...
I was curious why the lip syncing was kinda odd, almost like a dub. Still a great video though
As an FYI, Ian, despite H-Mart being a primarily Korean market, most of the chips you reviewed were not Korean.
VeggieBites, & My Pote are made by Calbee which is a Japanese company
Chiz Curls & Rollercoaster Potato Rings are made by Jack N Jill which is actually a Filipino company vs. an Indonesian company
Curvee Puffs is made by Shirakiku which is another Japanese company
Clover Chips is made by Leslie which is a Filipino company
The Salted Egg Lay's is a flavor made for Thai markets and the language on the front was Thai and not Korean
Potato Fries is made by Oishi which is another Filipino company
Of all the chips, only the Honey Butter chips and the Turtle chips were actually made in Korea. However, this did lead me down an internet rabbit hole where i discovered Honey Butter Chips were actually introduced first in Japan before they rebranded and became popular in Korea.
As a sum up, 3/10 were Japanese, 4/10 were Filipino, 1/10 were Thai, and 2/10 were Korean.
Hope this helps and was interesting for you to know!
My wife is Filipino, and she introduced me to Clover. I love it
Goddamnit, all these time i've been eating filipino snacks
Correct. I’m Korean so.
Wow when I think of Korean snacks the first thing that comes to mind are those honey butter chips. I feel like they’re the most famous one. The fact that they were in Japan first is cool but strange
@@nierro2664 Pretty sure it's a joke. It's probably a play on how a lot of white people can't tell Asian stuff apart, and how they often forget that Asia isn't just East Asia.
I like that ian reviewed a Japanese chip that he thought was korean while playing Italian music and doing a British accent
Mr worldwide
Also, with the insanely Chinese opening. Ian is a man of many cultures.
i think this was the best audio work yet mr. moose, i love when your mouth moves and different words come out
its a learnable skill
omg I spent the past 20 minutes fiddling with my audio setup because I thought it was a bluetooth latency thing on my end...
@@SHADOWKNUX1 fuck me too
7:49
I honestly thought I was losing my mind at first when I noticed that tidbit lol
the travel budget for this episode must be insane
The chip dimension is closer than you think
He gets around easily thanks to the Fresh Mech.
He travels instantly through Ianspace
I like how Ian keeps on confirming that this is a “Korean chip extravaganza” while the Calbee has a big label on it that says “Product of Japan.”
Which if we're looking at the map shown in the beginning of the video, Japan is obviously a typo for "Westernmost Korea."
@@gurvmlk true, america is actually a typo for ‘eastern korea’
Brutalmoose's ventriloquism for his Ian puppet is getting better every video!
Especially how he sometimes seems to transition from desynced, back over to synced in the same statement. Making it all the more perplexing as to whether or not one is actually even seeing it correctly.
The slight off-timing of the post footage dubbing made me feel like I was living in a timewarp this entire video. Truly the best way to experience Korean chips!
(Also hilarious how only one chip was truly Korean)
I was wondering if I was going insane watching it or it was some type of metacommentary on bad dubbing for Korean media.
Oh thank God I thought either my internet was bad or I was going insane
I thought I was having another stroke
@@Hawkster52 that's what I assumed he's going for but you never know with the moose
At first I was like “oh that’s funny. He desynced the audio to make a dub joke”
Then I realized something still wasn’t quite right. No. In true commitment to the bit, this man actually fully dubbed his own footage
He had to, apparently his mic wasn't recording when he originally did the thing and he realized it only well afterwards.
Same
@@Tiavals oh my god. it makes it infinitely funnier that it wasn't even an intentional joke
@@shortking-vp9vv i thought it was on purpose
holy shit me too, i love that desynced audio is an on brand joke for ian, truly a man of all time
H MART is a Korean grocery brand (in the US) and stock a lot of Korean products but also serve as a general 'Asian market' in the US with products also from Japan, China etc. It's also hard to tell when the package is the English version. The chips from CALBEE are Japanese, but are extremely popular in Korea. No criticism of Ian here, just writing as a fun fact!
Ian: compares a chip smell to a toilet
also Ian: A+
Can't wait for volume 4 for expired chips
And for that Ian will have to wait. Heyooo
Y’all, get to sending the chips wayyyy in the back of your pantry to his P.O. Box!
This channel is a great example of quality over quantity
MANLY MUSCLES!!!
Not that we would complain about more videos
I don't understand this statement he didn't like a lot of the chips
cant believe i have to preface that this was a joke
@@Aliens2Exist OP is referring to the channel as a whole not the quality of the chips in this video. brutalmoose puts out less content less frequently compared to some other channels but the quality of their videos are amazing compared to those who pump out videos more frequently. basically, their videos are worth the wait.
Yeah it is. He doesn't post much but when he does it's well worth the wait.
The fact that you made a gigantic effort to match the random studders and flubbed lines, makes me appreciate the work you put into your videos even more
oh man Honey Butter Chip was so popular in Korea when it first came out it was hard to even get one on hand! There were scalpers who would resell it at 10x price and there were even people who would sell empty chip bags just for the sniff 😂
Ah, so that's why American food packages are labelled "this product not labelled for retail sale".
thats a great story grandpa
Scalpers for chips may be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. And considering this is the internet, that's an impressive feat.
I feel so cultured now. Like a well-seasoned chip.
I find it funny how Ian keeps saying how these are "Korean Chips" when almost half of them are Filipino lol
Or Japanese.
Some of them were Japanese.
I think the Lay’s egg chips were either Thai or Lao, the glyphs are kinda similar if you don’t know better
the uh corn things withh chili
@@RobCamp-rmc_0 That is true, extremely similar, especially with the san serif font.
Though this one's thai.
Brutalmoose is like that fever dream you sometimes get. So vivid and intense. Yet so mystical like it may have never happened.
Imagine watching this video for the first time with a fever or a violent hangover. I would fully lose my grasp on reality.
I imagine that all the audio being a voice over wasn’t the original plan, but they lend a very uncanny feeling to this episode that I love. It almost feels intentional in places.
I cant believe you went all the way to Korea to film this video, thank you!
Jack and Jill brand are Filipino chips and the chips are notorious for having weird flavours that people aren't used to the first time they eat them
i wouldnt call it weird but more like
very "artificial" flavor
Cheese Piattos kinda slap though. Funnily enough, they have a similar flavour to Cheese Pringles.
I was gonna mention this! When I'd visit the Philippines as a kid to see family, my tito would always give me free snacks from the sari-sari store he owns; I'd recognise the Jack and Jill brand anywhere!
it makes me think that he thought of clover chips are kinda bland, as for me they taste so salty hahaha
also i feel bad that he didn't get to see lays seaweed flavor
@@Sonen10 Road House BBQ Piattos is a slapper, too
The oddest thing about this video isn't the foriegn chips, it's how Ian opens them.
The way he opened those bags was driving me crazy haha
I feel better assuming it's on purpose to bother as many people as possible lol.
yeah that shit is wild and triggering
Why have you burdened me with this realization
some of those bags are almost impossible to pull open. i’d like to see you try
This is obviously secretly a Televoid video and we just need someone who can read lips to understand it. Well done, Ian! Very immersive!
Love that the only 2 Korean chips were the only chips he liked lol
Nah gimme Japanese chips any time of the day lol
The bit where Ian breaks the fourth wall and makes us realize he's doing a voiceover LOL
Yeah, the audio was very weird with headphones. Many times that the audio wasn't right amd I was "wtf, this is trippy"
I only just started watching and was like “this is out of sync but in the most confusing way…”
@@Kazooples literally, not out of sync but like purposefully done bad and out of sync to confuse you. Don't know if Mr Chips just lost the audio, or if he just did this as a design choice. Equally could see either one and love that about this channel.
@@cadenwatts1773 I watched it a couple different ways and all of them were weirdly desynced pretty bad. Worst part is it fluctuates also
@@cadenwatts1773 I think it's on purpose due to the fact it's about Korean chips. Like poking fun at the old dubs for movies we got from Japan and Korea where it was never synced well to match what they were saying. But that's just my guess, it could also be that he lost the audio and had to record over it.
It makes you realize how good of an actor Ian is when you realize that despite how natural the audio sounds, it's a redubbing.
Makes you wonder what else he's acting about.
I just would like to know what Hello Fresh thinks when Ian sends them the sponsor segment. They must always be super excited because the Hello Fresh sponsor segment always Slaps and works surprisingly well.
This was so fun, I love all the tone shifts and the editing was so entertaining as always! You take food reviews and turn them into a surreal experience, well done! I'll have to look out for those churro chips!!
they really are amazing. The lime chili ones are good too, not just good for the dessert chips.
The sweet corn turtle chips are incredible
If you want to treat yourself, put those churro chips in a bowl and add milk and eat them like cereal. Not an every day thing but trust me, you will love it.
Found your channel almost exactly a year ago to the date through the food review type of videos, was going through a horrible breakup and the lowest I had ever been mentally. Binging your entire channel was was one the few things that got me through that period of my life and I don't mean that lightly. Im doing so much better now and seeing this notification on this date made me super happy, thanks Ian I love your channel.
Your videos always feel calmly chaotic and slightly cursed. And it's the exact vibe I need to soothe my nerves before bed time, it's incredibly therapeutic.
I can't explain it, but "gently cursed" is the most chill type of video to me. It's like the creepiness is there, it's manageable, it's not hiding anything from me. Very comforting
"Much like a toilet, they are stinky and they are smelly in a way that I quite like." - Chef Ian Brutalfoods, 2023
Lmao I like how Brutal does a whole buit about the incoming korean chips and then shows a japanese chip brand xD
I'm most familiar seeing many of these chips at filipino import stores so I consider these filipino.
Japanese, thai, and filipino 😭😭😭
I would like to thank you Ian.
I had recently bought a bag of tortilla chips but had tragically lost them, and they were nowhere to be found.
Distraught and wrought with grief i cried and sulked and mourned my precious tortilla chips, until you released this video.
It allowed me to channel into the mind of my chips and i was able to recover them after some telepathic nonsense.
You have saved me from eternal grief and for that i thank you.
Also we have the same name
doing the whole thing as a voice-over is very on-brand. It just naturally fits Ian. I bet he even talks in voice overs irl
It wasn't intentional. His mic went out when he was recording, and he had to do everything in voice-over.
I'm honestly so glad that we got some Filipino staples in this episode, been recommending them for this great series xD
Yep, and tbh if he picked cheese, I think he would have liked it more because its way less overwhelming than the ham and cheese flavor he got in my opinion
There's something about Ian's vids that always puts me in such a chill, happy headspace. A warm cup of tea and the snacktastic knowledge of Mr Chips is just what I needed tonight!
Honestly, despite how rough it must have been to redub all that audio, this came out SUPER well, beautiful brutalfoods as usual
im screaming i thought there were just some audio sync issues, it took me until halfway through the video to realize you were dubbing all of your lines holy shit lmfao. this channel is a gift to this world.
Your pronunciation of “oishii” will replay in my head till the end of time.
I like how Ian went all the way to the Seoul Tower in Korea to get all two Korean snacks
God I love brutal moose. Just had one of the hardest days of my life and this is just so calming .
You should try the Tako shaped Tako chips, the Shrimp flavored 새우깡, and the Ramen snacks you crush up. There are a lot of actual Korean snacks that are really strange, but delicious
I don’t know if it’s a bit or if I’m early enough that RUclips is having a stroke but your voice not matching up with your mouth and it never getting better or correcting itself is kinda funny
What perfect timing. I desperately needed a new brutalmoose
Agreed though.
No fr I had been thinking about this for the past like 4 days 😭
I’ve been binging his videos for the past week just waiting for the king to return
Your editing and humor is outstanding as usual. Thank you
I'm having one of those guilt free lazy days, this content is perfect
Ian Brutalfoods, you're by far my favorite RUclipsr. Can't thank you enough for the hours of entertainment you've provided. From a fellow Texan to PNW transplant, I hope you're able to get your hands on kolaches when you most desire them.
But did you ever then return to Texas, then return back to the northwest?
@@gurvmlk We're doing that in a few months. Med school in the south, practice with the pinwers.
@@evey0259 After all, it wouldn't be ethical to treat your own kind as the guinea pigs. Gotta go elsewhere for that part. lol
I thought the audio was wierd at first, but then I realized this was the 4kids! dub.
*Me who has been studying Korean for years and watching Ian for even longer*
My time. Has come.
The audio design of this video is immaculate! It really lends itself to the surreal nature of your editing style! Amazing!
honey butter chips are my fave and i feel strangely validated that they got an a+
I love Brutalfoods in general, but this is easily my favorite of its series. The presentation is so professional, and the Bureau of Taste adds a lot! Looking forward to Vol. 4, in any case! I wonder if a regional US tour might be in the works...
Edit: I have been informed that this was dubbed over due to issues during recording.
It definitely is. I've been trying to decide if it's a joke about the bad dubbing or a mistake that happened lmao
@@Ellidorah it is definitely an intensional joke, maybe it happened because of an audio mixup originally but he probably decided to roll with it, i think its really funny when you accept the dissonance between audio and visual
@Micah Bell lol dude its definitely a gag. Half the time the words don't even match what he is saying so it can't be a syncing error
I believe he said in a Live Stream of his that the Microphone was off. So he decided to just dub the video instead.
@@JazzyTheRabbit That realization must’ve been a major pain in the ass for him.
It’s funny cuz Austin reviewed the honey butter chips and wasn’t a fan at all, yet you gave them an A+. I definitely agree with you; they’re super good ❤
Either Hello Fresh is the coolest sponsor of all time, or they are simply too scared to tell Ian his advertisements are scaring the children of Planet Fresh.
Turtle chips are the best! The 'sweet corn' variety is very good also, and so is the 'soybean flour' flavor. That's the bag that looks like a coffee cake on the packaging, but soybean flour has a nice nutty flavor so even that was good!
Man those Chocolate Churro Turtle Chips are dangerous, finished a bag in one sitting, and was contemplating literally going back to the store to buy another one. They're super good!
I like that Mr. Foods preferred the South Korean and Japanese branded chips without realizing it, then proceeded to call Thai Lays Korean
The beautiful soul that edits these videos deserves their name flashing in the top left hand corner of every video that this channel releases.
If it's Ian, this policy stands.
As an Englishman, I'm eternally grateful that you so insightfully explained the geopolitical ramifications of our shared border with both East and Even Further Korea.
I'd be remiss if I didn't also make honourable mention of Equatorial Korea, Guinea-Korea and that one Korea by The Maritime Islands (I'm always forgetting that one!)
10:42 I can't believe iAN went on a rampage in Seoul, _again!_ You'd think from the backlash he received the last time he went all Kaiju on a city he'd have learned his lesson by now.
This video made me feel like I was slipping into insanity thank you for another banger ian
If brutalmoose read this, the best way to eat Roller Coaster 4:50 is to put the ring on every finger on both your hands and eat it one by one
I'm utterly OBSESSED with those honey butter chips. Better than the rolls you get at a steakhouse. There's an occasional limited edition version of them released where they're made with maple butter and they're equally as good.
Thanks for the comments, I have a gift for you subscriber🎁
I am never disappointed by your versatile knowledge of the potato chip. Keep on the good Korean ambassador work.
Came for the gaming content, stayed for the weird food reviews
Love those videos
At first I thought I was trippin', casue the audio was all wack, yo!
But then I realised I was chippin' cause the content was still enjoyable as frick, man!
Ian, the way you open a chip bag from the corner like it's a condiment packet is actually driving me bonkers. Love you!
Thank you Mr. Chips for what feels like a yearly upload
You should review the new kid cuisine meals, idk if they’ve really changed from what they used to be but they’re branding has definitely changed
Best audio. "blah blah blah-- I don't know what I said here" Pure cinematic genius 10/10 Love it
are you voice overing yourself with words you think you remember saying? Ok, that is absolute mad lad genius
Salted Egg flavour is super underrated imo. It's salty, it's eggy... what's not to like!
I don’t remember what brand it is, but there are these salted egg yolk chips in a yellow bag with I think a duck or a chicken on them or smth, and they’re all smooth because they have dried egg yolk on them
They’re like godly.
@@tisvana18irvins?
Just me or is the audio off a bit? I’m on mobile so not sure if that makes a difference
It’s definitely off a bit
it's off for me too
Same.
He said in his last stream that his microphone was off when he recorded so he had to dub over :)
Here’s a story.
It was 7th grade I believe, we were watching a movie [can’t remember what movie it was] , and we were allowed to bring snacks. I didn’t bring any, but one kid in the class brought a bag of foreign cheeseballs. The cheeseballs were pickled flavored, and were from Russia. I don’t know anything else, like how they taste, but I thought it would be an interesting story to tell about some pickle flavored cheeseballs.
This channel is a great example of quandary over quality and quantity

can bet you Ian desynced the audio by a miniscule amount to mess with us. love it.
The most I've been betrayed by a RUclipsr since that one stabbed me
I figured it was an allusion to old Chinese movies that got dubbed over in English and had hilarious amounts of audio/visual desync because of it
Pretty sure he accidentally didn’t record the audio, there’s the section in the video where he says “I don’t know what I said here”
