My dad bought a slightly larger version of that same Wilton vice, used, at an auction in 1968 where we used it on the farm until the early 1990s. I now have it on my workbench in my shop. I LOVE my old Wilton vice.

A rebuild/restoration has been on the to do list for a while now. Mine came from the railroad and it is a little worn out.

Concerning the "floppiness" of your gas pedal, that's normal. On my '78 Super I simply removed the entire metal footpad part of the pedal and push the gas using my foot on the roller. It works out MUCH better. But, if you MUST keep that flat foot pedal thingy, then you'll need to install the spring correctly to get the pedal to come back up. You do that by installing just like you have, except ADD-IN one more twist, or rotation, to the short end of the spring so that it's actually forcing the pedal back toward you. Right now, as you have it, you haven't pre-loaded the spring correctly. It doesn't just slide on the shaft like you have it. You have to slide it on, but pre-load it with one more rotation of the short end to get it to tension the pedal back.

I address this in a future video. Still not sure if I got it right, but you will see soon enough and can let me know. Thanks!
