I am envious of you. Watching him salvage whilst I'm in a vulture is awesome, but I'd bet my last aUEC that doing it in a reclaimer would be even better
I love that aliens vibe on the inside of the reclaimer even the outside dark intense the steam coming down on the middle console computer terminal is just awesome
For one thing, please get a MaxLift - it will save you tons of time and frustration moving the big crates around. You did the right thing printing only 16scu's - the smaller boxes take significantly longer to print especially once you consider the lag involved. And second, if running solo and considering the time sink, don't scrape. Cracking takes 1/10th or even less time and provides about 1/2 the value. Filling a Reclaimer with CMC on my own takes a little over an hour (stacking boxes is the slow part) and it nets just over 10 million. Oh, and the landings... Definitely keep VTOL on but ultimately it's a huge, heavy, monster and you just learn to roll with the weight and inertia. The legs can take a huge landing speed with zero issues so I've started trying to come in faster with some varied success lol. It's difficult to maneuver once stopped or even slowed because you lose height with every horizontal maneuver so I try to use that weight from my approach to help get me lined up.
Power triangle to engines and use SHIFT to regain control every once and a while, shift even uses stored thrust to help you stop quickly. No backward thrust to speak of but angling back and using spacebar gives you vtol stopping/backup power to go in reverse before flattening out again and continuing back down to land.
First of all, thank you very much for your videos. I'm planning on starting the game but I was always very unsure if it was the right game for me. Indeed it just adds more to an area of gameplay you already love, the ships themselves. I personally get huge enjoyment from using the larger ships even if it is solo.
I believe if you have the big ships you should try and become familiar with them and try to do a lot of it on your own so when you do get a crew you are not lost in helping them to learn on your ship, practice makes perfect and if you can turn a profit while doing it then more power to you.
Eventually the game will make it unfeasible, people will try but these huge ships will be much more expensive and money will be more difficult to earn, the risk won't worth it. You imagine a large ship under attack. A solo crewman having to pilot, man the guns which got separate controls and also the engineering part, repairing the ship that will have all sort of malfunctions even fire. All at the same time. Because of this the specs of each ship have a min and max crew consideration. There are also medium size ships that only are for 1-2 crew members.
Perfect timing, thank you, just picked up a Reclaimer and got that wonderful Hadinite paint pack for all the 4 ships ,Mole,Roc,Prospector and Reclaimer, very expensive ship to buy out of game 400 USD and really not to bad in game for its potential profits in game cost of 15,126,400 credits.I got mine at Star Hanger after a long stressed deliberation of the pros cons and my need to add to my fleet a major salvage ship and also the paint pack very good deal total but if anyone is contemplating this purchase from a second hand market remember if you do this you can not gift it to someone else, because it is being gifted to you already, you can only melt it in the future if you no longer want it,so know that going in.The advantage of buying it from CIG is it is giftable or sellable later if someone wants to buy it,I look at it as I am in for a penny in for a pound already lol and I am having so much fun in this game already that it's worth it to me.Great video and as always keep up the great work.look forward to your next anything video they are all so well done and yes that Q drive sucks lol.The Erebos is 126,000 credits at ARC-L1 with a 12.75 spool time and the Echo is 13.5 seconds spool time for 112,600 credits at area 18 and both are at max speed of 101301 and range of 221.83,But the Pontes speed is 188,698 with a max distance of 89.9 and a cost of 117,118 at CRU-L1or Port Olisar or Port Tressler.Have a great day everyone take care in see you in the verse.Deep Runner 1.
Felt inspired by your videos to try salvage, got myself a Vulture and went out there. Noticed that I need to upgrade it asap because it is very slow stock but also quite nice and relaxing. Unfortunately my first run ended rather quickly. I had 13 boxes in the back when the vulture just spontaneously exploded. A bit disheartened but I will give it another shot asap.
I'd still recommend having a tractor beam on the vulture, just to stop your target spinning if you accidentally bump it. Great video. Will be working up to a reclaimer.
I completely agree when you said the Tractor Beams treat the Salvage Containers like they're nothing. IMHO, the bigger the crate, the more fine-tuning you'll need and the more inertia you'll have to deal with if you're trying to move crates quickly. It's frustrating, but hey, we are dealing with several dozen TONS of raw material here, rather than mere Kilograms. Also, I would absolutely LOVE to get into mining more, but my major gripe with it is that it's time-gated. I can earn the same amount in half the time with one Vulture run than I can wasting 8hrs waiting for the same amount of material to be refined from a full Prospector load.
It's really useful, I've got a Reclaimer but haven't used it in ages. A friend said he had been doing Duo reclsimer missions & had earned 5Mill. Asked if I wanted to take mine our. Thought I'd have a look for videos & found this really useful. I might even take it out on my own now that I've seen this. Thsnks
Farrister, u finally salvaging with reclaimer.. tho i used to be only using that straw and not actually hull scrapping, but that was old me when money rush was my purpose.. but now i try to enjoy salvaging by doing a hull scrap, but with vulture ofc, maybe i'll try coming back to my reclaimer next.. interestingly, I noticed the salvage material from contract is vary depending on the ship we're salvaging.. my favorite on vulture was MSR, they gave me full 26 RMC, along with 13 con mat.. thats for a price of 20k.. while other ship only gave me like 8 in avg.. and that vulture gameplay is perfect cz it takes like 1-1.5 hrs to complete that MSR.. what more interesting is, instead of selling it right away, i tend to transfer all those on vulture into my C1 on station landing pad, risky? Yes ofc, it gave me anxious but feels like mining isnt it? Sell it after that C1 is full.. haha
Watching so I can have a good start with my reclamer. I was able to buy it today but haven't flown it yet. I Want to upgrade the systems tomorrow and then I'm going to take it out.
I did a solo run with my reclaimer I got on Sunday, wasn't about the money but I maxed out just shy of buying another in a single run lol also i found a good optimal range to pull up is between 40-50m however depending on ship and how it breaks (stuff bouncing off your ship and out of range)
Another great video 👍 It would be so nice if they would fix the bugged QT so we don't get thrown out of the ships en route 😒 Then we could actually utilise the travel time to juggle cargo etc instead of just sitting there staring at the stars 😅
Even in the Vulture, the tractor beam comes in handy if you underestimate the length of those prongs and send your target spinning. (I have heard from somebody.) Talking about crashing: I wonder if your landings become easier when using VTOL.
I'm not sure if you touched on this in a review of the ship, but you didn't here: Like the 890 Jump, the Reclaimer takes a long time to thrust up, even with maximum thrust, so it may be a moment before you see any visible movement when getting out of a hangar on a planet.
Best position I found for solo is between 50-60m of the target centre of mass (when you target it), then bring up the nose so that the aim is in the middle of your radar. Here you are almost perfectly placed for the claw.
It did not take me long to learn where to position and align the CLAW while soloing it and I stay about 80m away when using the Straw/Claw. I enjoy soloing in the Reclaimer BUT if I have time it is easy to get it crewed.
I really wish for the claw to one day work like in the one cinematic video, like an actual claw and the turrets then perhaps having a laser module cutting the ship up with tractor beams feeding it into the muncher. I'd appreciate that more than "space magic" especially with the heavy industrial design of the ship.
Honestly scraping just takes too much time for the profit it gives. My best solo method so far is to just take c2/m2 missions, Fly to one and just immediately fracture and dissolve the 1 main ship piece which gives 240 construction scu and fills up the depot. While you quantum to the next mission you empty the depot and usually finish by the time a 15mil km quantum is done and you repeat the process (Takes longer gradually as the hold fills up). it takes about 10-15 minutes out of quantum flight to fill up 1.5mil. I spent about 2 hours tonight (including takeoff and selling) and fractured 5 c2/m2's filling the cargo hold, salvage hold, and salvage deck. made around 7.3 mil.
Yep i’ve had the same realization, you can get much more than double the material at less than half the time, so the half cost of material really doesn’t matter for me, plus you can sell at pretty much any station also makes it a huge time saver
Farrister, thank you (once again) for this great tutorial. As many other players i'm a solo citizen as well and i was wondering what you would do in situation where you might get attacked during a salvage operation. I had this happen during salvages with my vulture and considering the defensive capabilities of a vulture, i was the one who drew the short straw...Some advised to just fly away and come back at a later time when the attackers might have gone while others just abandoned the contract. But that would result in loss of money since salvage contracts aren't free. So how would you go about it in a situation where you are attacked while operating a reclaimer?
for anyone wanting to do this, this is just an example but to maximize your money do the personal > hammerhead missions. you get a full load + 250k per hammerhead.
You should take the reclaimer to a neutral location to avoid people seeing your ship and trying to board it. Half way between last job and next job is where I do it. IF the job is far enough away, I'll just go and unload boxes from the machine while traveling to the next job in quantum. At least 25M away for enough time to empty full buffer.
insurance i believe, theres a terminal in the main hospitals (planet side) that is to do with insurance, i'll check it in a bit to see the company name
Question. i have salvaged 3 scorpius but I only have collected 3 SCU +/- but you have almost have collacted a full SCU of storage after doing 3 ships. Am I doing something wrong ?
Did you do the structural salvage afterwards? The RMC would probably be about that amount, but I'd have thought the structural salvage would be more... I have a guide here which goes into more detail: ruclips.net/video/edBuH5HNegM/видео.html
This has basically become my daily ritual on SC. It is very relaxing, minus coming in for a landing lol. A single C2, fully hull scraped and munched, nets me about 2.15mil, though I've debated just munching for speed, considering munching a C2 hull alone nets about 240scu of construction materials. I could probably much 2 C2s quicker than I could scrape and munch one.
I noticed on your first ship you were way to far...close it up to around 50 meters...same for the second you are too far from the target, you can even tell when looking at the meter that show you are in the red. Move closer to get i at least in the green. the closer in the more material is gathered.
Area 18 is the best I find...also when you can, buy and swap out the scraper module to a Cinch...wider faster and overall better. Area18 also saves time as the v. Short travel time to the selling points, which are side by side more or less in town..By the time you you get Personal contracts on C2s and M2s...scraping is not always worth it...saving time transferring any salvaged cargo (usually a crate of gold)...then just disintegrate and move on...3 jumps will net circa 6mil
I hope they add the ability to switch operation modes from different seats. The whole "pilot seat" does one thing, "copilot seat" does a different thing is just bad. I agree you shouldn't be able to do everything at the same time from every seat, but you should be able to change function. Like... what happens if the pilot is incapacitated? Why can't the copilot start moving the ship? Or in this case, why can't the pilot stop piloting controls and switch to salvage controls?
Sadly the idris at least in live build has no collision box and thus can not be salvaged from a soft death state. Most you will get out of it is the bit off the mpuv inside it.
Stock drive in the ship is pretty bad. Pontes is a good match for this ship. Area 18 has that drive I believe (Dumper's Depot) Ship needs that. A18 also has FR89 shield. and a descent Powerplant too.
Dare for u ,go to a18 and do ert with reclaimer on a moon. If u want to scrape put galdergreen repeaters on your manned turret.for fracturing only use ballistics. Renner landing gear must be up to use claw . So u get paid for bounty and free salvage . Ps go to a ert bounty by caves.
I am debating if I should buy one, I do have the money. I fear losing 15 mil when the next patch drops. I have no luck keeping my salvage ships. I noticed that you lost all your hair too. I am also bald for some reason.
Used to have a reclaimer but I melted it, mainly because it's just I thought I'd love salvage, but it's just too slow for me, more of a cargo or bounty guy. It can make a ton of money though, I won't deny
Fun video to watch but in response to the comments at the end of the video about it being quite a lot of profit for the time spent, hahahahaha... that's cute. If you follow the meta in that amount of time you could have earned 8-10 million if you ignore scraping the hull and just fracture big ships. Solo I can do 7-8 hammerheads from illegal contracts and each one if you get close enough can give you more than the full 240 scu you can hold at once.
can't wait till UEC can't buy ships anymore sick of sharing my air space with RENTAL plebs i make a passive income just munching 3 starlifters or hammerheads
I know many won’t agree, but I’ll be excited for when these ships are really difficult to buy in game so that it’s more optimal to go on the world chat and ask for crewmen for these industrial ships, including cargo. So that it’s the best way for everybody to make money. Shucks, I hope there are real money sinks that force us to constantly grind just to survive. Maybe I just can’t see the future well, but based on how the game has been, it’s too easy to own all of the ships. I want to feel a real need to grind to make profits when I’m on the low end and want to feel like a literal boss when I have the expensive ships and have to hire a crew
You got your wish, in-game prices are going up! I also welcome it and hopefully it's just an incremental step and the prices climb higher as we creep closer to 1.0.
@@obaniehia yeah unloading this ship will be a nightmare, unless they add a feature to the middle elevator to raise it and open the door so you can lob them down the shaft and out... suggestion time 🙃 6 years later
it is an elevator, it can be opened to outside with command from pilot opening all doors, however it raise up to the processing floor. i wish they would greybox it as it a nightmare trying to get 16scu boxes thrown down it properly, hitting invisible walls lol@@Skyeefo

The claw.. You mean the microwaving magic special beam. We got something for the Rec, but it ain't the claw.
alright I give up...how did you move the salvage near and far with the tractor beam on the reclaimer???
Even in the Vulture, the tractor beam comes in handy if you underestimate the length of those prongs and send your target spinning. (I have heard from somebody.) Talking about crashing: I wonder if your landings become easier when using VTOL.
You should absolutely use VTOL when landing, especially with the Reclaimer.
I work in sandblasting. Using the hull scraper reminds me of stripping mill-scale or galvanizing off of steel, always has been strangely satisfying.

Every time I salvage I feel like smoking the ships. The animation is very similar to a cigarette burning.
How do i deploy the claw ??
I love to run that ship solo !
If there is someone in the ship can you salvage it?
Stock drive in the ship is pretty bad. Pontes is a good match for this ship. Area 18 has that drive I believe (Dumper's Depot) Ship needs that. A18 also has FR89 shield. and a descent Powerplant too.
So we don’t get that 250k credit anymore?
Good stuff. Vulture sucks 3 SCU of RMC and 3 SCU of construction mats from a scorpius so the amount of waste from a reclaimer is not insignificant.
So strange, we were doing some ERT bounties at the weekend with the Reclaimer!
Thanks for spending up the important part of how to deploy the salwige arm😑
I have a complete salvage tutorial video which aims to cover how to do everything. This was more of a gameplay video :)

My source of money! But I doubt CIG will let us profit so easily in 3.23.
This guy sounds like Steve Mould
Afraid I don't know who that is!
@@Farrister Science youtuber, very very good!
I did solo yesterday just to be raided by pirates but they were friendly enough to keep my cargo if I donated 250k to them😂

Fun video to watch but in response to the comments at the end of the video about it being quite a lot of profit for the time spent, hahahahaha... that's cute. If you follow the meta in that amount of time you could have earned 8-10 million if you ignore scraping the hull and just fracture big ships. Solo I can do 7-8 hammerheads from illegal contracts and each one if you get close enough can give you more than the full 240 scu you can hold at once.
made the credits now you buy better Quatum drive and cooler as you'll need both
can't wait till UEC can't buy ships anymore
sick of sharing my air space with RENTAL plebs
i make a passive income just munching 3 starlifters or hammerheads
lol
Trash truck meta hope it keeps its value
it's going to be a bitch once freight elevators come to fruition.
@@obaniehia yeah unloading this ship will be a nightmare, unless they add a feature to the middle elevator to raise it and open the door so you can lob them down the shaft and out... suggestion time 🙃 6 years later
@@CommanderJPSI really do wonder if that dark scary hole at the far end of the salvage hold is meant for something like that.
it is an elevator, it can be opened to outside with command from pilot opening all doors, however it raise up to the processing floor.
i wish they would greybox it as it a nightmare trying to get 16scu boxes thrown down it properly, hitting invisible walls lol@@Skyeefo
First, but not last.
