Fun fact: waaay back when, some of the early concept stuff stated "The Cutter is an announced snub craft to be included with the Reclaimer." Guess it just got completely repurposed. I'm in love with the idea of a salvage snub though -- let it fill up an internal bay then toot on back to a larger base ship to unload, and that base ship can handle printing boxes. Buddy and I had this idea: have it be Argo and it can print some 32scu boxes and it'll work perfectly with the RAFT. Call the big ship the BEAR -- Break Extract Acquire Repurpose, and the snubs are variations of the MPUV. Call 'em cubs.
Extra tip: When disintegrating, you can get more construction material by being at the right distance from and aiming at the right spot on the ship part you are disintegrating. You can see the % number beside the SCU amount, it goes from -19% to +19%. So by being at the right spot you can get up to 38% more construction materials than if you don't pay attention to it at all.
Love the more casual talking from you, Farrister. Thanks for showing off more of the Salvage gameplay! It's definitely my favorite right now when I need something to do while listening to podcasts.
I only recently got into salvaging and I can absolutely see why it's popular. Especially when I figured out how to use the station pads to spawn a second ship and load the salvage materials to a cargo ship, reducing the trips to and from the planetary spaceport. When I'm not in the mood to seek excitement, I just take a salvage contract on something like MSR or Corsair, turn on the salvage beam and off-center it from the crosshair slightly and let the beam run across the length of the ship while I browse the web or something. Rinse and repeat.
@@Farrister Ohh, okay "using the pads to spawn a second ship" isn't entirely accurate, and I might have just confused you and you already know, but let me explain what I meant. I recently learned that space station landing pads are still in the game, just never assigned by ATC. They can still be landed on and, more importantly, they still have elevators. So after finishing a salvaging run, go back to the home station, *do not request landing*, find and land on a vacant landing pad, use the elevator to get back to the lobby just like we used to do back when landing pads were in service, and then spawn a second ship, which you can fly to the same landing pad that you left your Vulture. The existence of pads makes it really easy to have two ships out at the same time to transfer boxes between them. When finished, just get inside each ship and request landing to store them one by one. Repeat till the cargo ship is filled so that you can sell all of them in one single trip to planetside. My mind was blown when I found out this was a thing because otherwise in order to move boxes between ships you'd have to fly the first ship somewhere, somehow get back to the station and spawn a second ship, and fly back to the first one. But with landing pads, we can do all of it right at the station, albeit at risk of having the ships stolen or pad-rammed. Sure, it's also tedious work to spawn the second ship and move the boxes, but moving boxes is a surprisingly fun and satisfying gameplay (especially witb ship-size tractor beam), much more than going to the TDD every salvaging trip. This also makes me really look forward to persistent hangars which will make spawning multiple ships much faster and safer.
few tips. 2x abrade are the best for speed, especially on larger ships. Secondary I have the tractor and a trawler. The largest ships the vulture can handle are Connie's and MSR's. Press G to gimbal your scraping heads, works better than moving the whole ship just to move your scraping heads. Seems the meta is just to hop around and frac/dis ships but I really enjoy scraping. A connie/MSR is enough to fill your cargo hold (21 SCU) and the buffer. You can use your multitool tractor beam in the hangar.
You have a relaxing voice, legit almost passed out while watching going to bed. Great video. Visuals were stunning. Loved the nebula in the back from one vulture to the other
Ive always thought of the Cutter as in it cuts through the air because its easy to fly both in atmosphere and in space and the Vulture because vultures are scavenger birds
Quick question, hopefully, did they ever fix the "bug" where if you salvaged something (with the vulture or reclaimer) and move the cargo from said salvage ship to another ship (for cargo transport), does it still count as stolen? It was something my friends and I enjoyed doing, salvaging with multiple vultures and filling up a large cargo ship, but it was always a massive pain to sell, and didn't like taking the pay cut to sell stolen goods.
when scraping if you press "G" you dont have to move your ship you can just use the mouse. also if you had used the hangers after the first sale you can use a tractor beam in the hanger to move the box's
I should mention this in each video, my bad. But for me it doesn't work, I think it's because I have had to rebind a lot of the view controls for shooting footage in game. But gimbal doesn't work for me.

My trouble is that I bought a C2 Starlifter last year. Bloody thing prints money. I can make over 250k in one run from Bajini to Area 18 in 15 minutes!. I did buy a Vulture in game though. I’ll do a couple of cargo runs in the C2 to make some fast big bucks then I’ll spend the rest of my time in the Vulture or just bugger about the place in a Cutter. Another champion video though mate. I definitely like your gameplay videos. The reason why is because I've had a ship(Avenger) since what? God knows when and have sort off cooled of SC. However I'm still sort of keeping up with the development and having a gentleman such as yourself explain the progress definitely helps with keeping up so I may get back into it when it's in more of a finished design. Thank you. Great video. Makes me want to help give people a lift again...lol.
I find it hard to scrape with the lights on. When it is pitch black, I will flash the light on then off to get an idea of the geometry since the back sides like to highlight you cannot get to unles you move around the ship. Good video, thanks.

When scanning doesn't want to work right off the bat, try reducing the scan angle from 360 to anything 180 or below. That often triggers it to actually scan the ship in front of you.
I usually like to switch the second module's mode, but turn on both salvage beams at the same time (cinch on the left, abrade on the right). It'd be nice if there was the option to have a tractor/abrade module on the left. I have seen someone steal a salvage head from a reclaimer and put it on a vulture, I wonder if that still works with the 3.22 PU release.
Just got the vulture some days ago, so im here to learn a bit 😛. I salvaged one ship, still havent gone and sell anything, so thanks, now i see how. Cos i did found it odd i went to a place to sell, and no option to do it. Now i realized some places wont buy certain things, while others will 🤗. I've not played this game, only been looking at ships and specs etc. for now.. Personally, i'm not that into the whole PVP thing, so how likely are you to get jumped doing these contracts?
I have been playing since around 2017. Between mining, cargo hauling and salvage I think I've been jumped maybe 3 times. It's not as prevalent as some make it seem. It also helps to learn where the safer areas are to operate out of.
Not likely. It does happen, and when it happens, it's widely discussed. But for an experienced player who knows when to make a run for it, it's really not a big issue right now.
i will say backup from what you are scraping to the furthest you can be and still see well enough, to cover bigger area on the hull. but sweet thanks for another vid
I just wanna know how you used your ship tractor beam on the other vulture WITHOUT GETTING A CRIMESTAT. Literally every time I've done it I get slapped with a cs2
Should've checked what sort of heads were on the other Vulture ;) Also, RMC scraping is slower than it was before 3.22, yield is lower too, but to balance that out (more or less), the value has gone up from 7.699K / SCU to 14K+/SCU
I think the name of the cutter comes from old sailing ships were smaller and more agile than something like a Corsair sailing ships, with the hull type designated "cutter". I'm pretty sure they were used by pirates often, so it would fall neatly into the rest of Drake's aesthetic. There is a more modern ship that has the "cutter" hull designation, but it's a modern Coast Guard patrol ship. I don't think the inspiration came from that one, given Drake's whole pirate theme and ship names like Corsair.
A bit late to the party, but I didn't get around to watch your video until now. I've always thought that the name "cutter" refers to a class of smaller ships (I believe originally with 1 mast) that often is used for patrol or SAR duty in navies coast guard etc. Probably also by pirates back in the day 🤔😆
There used to be metal ( parts looking like wings or such ) salvage around n these asteroid fields but no more I guess. they were very profitable to salvage.
@Farrister ya but if you are grabbing in zero G it can be easy to float near the door rather then try and stand. Then you can sit without the spin, crash thing the game does.

Cutters were used be the revenue cutter service. Which turned into the coast guard. We still use the term cutter on our ships 65 feet and larger.
so for the vulture i try to ge1t double abrade and double tractor beams on the salvage heads but this patch it's being wonky
