The Freelancer advert 10 years ago was what brought my attention to Star Citizen and since then it's been my favorite ship; really wish they'd give it that desperately needed gold pass, currently it's blown out of the water by it's rivals of the similar price range. Also I've attempted to use the middle small storage room on both the base and the Max, the door is not wide enough for even 1 SCU crates, the only way to do it is by opening the roof hatch and tediously smacking the crate against it until it slides in, it's a VERY tight fit.
YESSS! Freelancer got me interested as well! Had a real "freelance gypsy hauler" feel to it, which really appealed to me. Was the C1 that brought me back to the game THIS time tho. Then I looked for a ship review on it and found THIS channel. So wins all 'round! XD
It's definitely not "blown out the water" by similarly priced ships. While the Cutlass is faster and has more firepower and the C1 is overall more agile and has a tractor beam even the base Freelancer has more (grid) cargo space and is way more durable due to more shields. And I was also easily able to get 2scu boxes through the door into the smaller compartment so I really wonder why you seem to have issues with this. While the Freelancer series sure needs an update it's still to this day a good choice in that price and size range, especially the base Freelancer and the Freelancer MAX.
It's a bit tricky, but getting the crates through the door is not that hard. Obviously loading this little storage needs to be done first and unloaded last. The best way is to first place the crates in front of the door on the big cargo grid to align them. Then walk backwards through the door and take the crate with you, keep it at chest height because the door gets narrower at the bottom and top. That way you can get 1 and 2 SCU crates through there with a maximum 12 SCU space. In zero G you could load from the top through the docking collar but thats more difficult because a wrong angle on the crate blocks the entry
Unfortunately my Taurus got destroyed just after 3.24 went live and before the hotfixes were deployed, and now I can't claim it anymore. Keeps giving the error message "Claim currently cannot be processed" 😞
I'd like to mention that if you buy those Stor-all scu containers that are bought from cargo stores, that you can fit smaller boxes into them while in the freight menu so that you don't have to move as many boxes when taking small scu size contracts. You have to unpack them at the destination, bring them up, then send them down again, but I think this is a much more efficient way to move small boxes. Also, as for the max tractor beam, it has a longer tractor beam range so if you're like me who likes to abuse the pushing and pulling feature to physically move as little as possible, it's very welcome over the pistol.
You also run the risk of small items (drink containers, medpens etc) getting stuck in the cargo lifts rendering them inoperable. Storing the small items in the storage containers avoids that. If you have a large hanger with 2 lifts, you can continue with the second lift. Once you're out of working lifts, you're screwed....

Hello Farrister, when will you make a review for the Peregrine? While I do not intend to buy it, it is pretty cool to watch your ship reviews; also re-reviewing the previously reviewed ships, but with the now current Master Modes would be cool too!

The issue with the cargo missions (no cargo spawning at low earth orbit stations) seems to have started only on day two of 3.24's life; when 3.24 first went live things worked.
Lovely stuff. I haven't had a chance to get into 3.24 yet but I'm really looking forward to it - sounds like it might be worth waiting a bit longer anyway 😂 I'm hoping to combine hauling contracts with a bit of trading on the same routes to squeeze out a bit more profit - don't know if the routes will line up but we'll see.
If you have a metal desk, or any kind of inline direct connection to your PC, and have any issues with static electricity, that's the issue I've been having with all my devices disconnecting and reconnecting. I've also had PC issues in the past where the motherboard was starting to fail causing similar issues.
I've really been enjoying the hauling contracts. I've been using an MSR and the Maxlift because you can back right up to the elevators with it and just stand at the top of the ramp to move boxes. Not as lucrative as hunting panels, but super chill. Also... Obviously done in the PU. There's no PTU text on the bottom of your screen.
@@Farrister I haven't had any issues unloading RMC so far. But I'm also not running every load back to A18 in the Vulture. I'm moving it all to a hauler and only taking it back to sell when it's full.
I had lost my Covalex rep from having 3 "abandoned" contracts in a row, and the reevaluation contract was always orbital station to city. I wasn't able to do this contract because of the issue with cargo at orbital stations, but after the hotfix yesterday it's working again for me. I did lose my junior rank back down to rookie which is frustrating but at least I'm not locked out anymore
I love the Max,it flies well, easy to land and very stable and has decent shields as well as 4 size 3 weapons not to mention a lot of missiles, looks cool with the black paint or the Foundation festival paint.I tried the cargo run with Gold and had 900 plus k in the purchase and got a glitch when loading it to the cargo hanger and it ate two SCU on the cargo deck ,just fell right through the floor of the cargo area and the sale wouldn't go through due to missing items and I lost the whole 1.1 million so until these issues are fixed I will stick to the small cargo runs and not risk anything but time.Thank you for the video and how to not lose your ass in cargo lol,Best of luck to everyone, hope you fare better than I did and see you all in the verse.
you can squeeze a 1SCU box into the lancer through that hatch on the top! Best in zero-g, and not for cargo missions. Maybe just 1 or 2 scu of stor-all cargo boxes for your own loot - and a comfy chair or two!
@@Farrister it DID wiggle pretty violently - it resisted going in there pretty hard! I swear it only succeeded through luck. A few chairs should be easier than the 1scu box was.
The other day I did a bundle of hauling missions from orison to seraphim and back with my c2. Loading all that with a pyro was a nightmare. I'm gonna try the caterpillar, if I don't like that Taurus it is
Yet to go into contracts, only so far delivered cargo through a Vulture and through the C1, picking up a batch of mined goods. I don't feel like I'd want bigger and more SCU's of cargo. But we'll see.
I had my Freelancer pledge refunded in 2015. It's fantastic seeing it finally in action just the way I envisioned it back then. Once the game becomes more reliable I'll probably start with a cheap starter and try to earn back my Freelancer by playing. I feel I'd be quickly frustrated if I started playing right now with all the technical issues. Anyways, just flying through space from planet to planet hauling cargo is really why I'd like to play Star Citizen. I'm waiting for the day I hear more good news about the technical state of the game.
@@Farrister Right after this video I watched a video about soaring quantum fuel prices in SC. It seems they'll do about anything to prevent people from enjoying this fictional universe.
You can fit 1 and 2 SCU boxes in the inner hold. But it's a PITA to get through that door. I love and have the Freelancer, but the C1 is probably more efficient for this stuff and is way faster. The big Maxlift tractor gives way more range and speed while moving stuff. Stacking multiple small missions is more cost effective than on medium mission. Just my observations.
I said it was a PITA. What I do is stand in the door, then pick up the box, keeping it straight. Then I try to line it up with the far part of the door and just back up, pulling it through the door. If I bump the door, I snap it back on the grid to straighten it up and try again. I keep a 2 SCU box in there as my ship storage. I would not bother to try and get the fill six boxes in. That'd be frustrating.
Your USB ports might be turning off and on randomly due to Windows power settings. There is a setting in "additional parameters" (power settings bar) that allows Windows to turn off USB ports to save power. If the setting is on, it may be the cause of your problem.
Right now, I own a Cutlass Black, Freelancer Maxx, and finally....after a few weeks of playing, a Vulture. I was gonna take the vulture out tonight, but New Babbage tells me I have permission to take off and they just will NOT open the hangar bay doors. 😂
lovely thank you!!! I'm still struggling how to move gear from a city to a space station i can't figure out or maybe it doesn't work atm!! would be with nice a video :P
I have a Carrack and i dont think there is a way to open the cargo hold at the moment so unless you stack the boxes in the vehicle garage or the landing bay i dont believe you can do much cargo but i might be wrong.
The only problem with cargo hauling is that the missions are the only way that cargo hauling is currently working. Freight elevators at places like Scd-1 are still broken and stuck and almost never work. And then after the update I’ve had problems with 9tails randomly being in the armistice zone and are unkillable for that reason but are able to shoot and kill you. I’ve started a mission of spamming CIG with tickets about this until they fix it.
@@Farrister I had reports from my org that the Hull-C is not auto-loading or unloading in current hot fix sept 7th 2024. I have been doing a lot of solo haulage, but without planning to do it, I’ve been doing a lot of hauling contracts with team mates and the Cat. With multiple entrances multiple beams (max lift), can be scooping in cargo. So I’d been wondering, if Hull-C can even be used for hauling contracts, apparently not. Unless of course it’s hitting ground station landing pads and another team mate is in another craft with the shared hauling contract to operate the cargo lift. As the Hull-C’s tractors are pretty good. Taurus tractor beam absolutely rapid.
A friend bought me my first ship in the game in2014, one of the Aurora's, and then alerted me some number of months or years later that the Freelancer was on sale for like 20 bucks or something, I hadn't given the game much attention but I looked over the ship, watched that commercial, and picked it up and it was my ship when I started playing the game about a year ago. Its not a bad ship. I dont like the mini cargo room because it just seems like theres not a good reason for it especially when it could just be added to the main cargo grid. I always thought that the Freelancer Max should be the base model. The regular Freelancer should become a medical ship. And I cant remember what I thought about the other two. Its a decent ship. I ended up replacing it with the C1 as my pledge ship but its a good ship.
Is there a way to auto load hauling mission cargo onto ships? I can see when buying commodities how to do it at the Admin terminals, but I can't see anywhere to send mission crates. Thanks! Thanks for another nice video. I'm enjoying 3.24 and have been setting up all my ships around the hangar,
It will be cool to have robots auto loading and unloading your cargo in nice places but you would have to do it manually in remote places. Could be a balance between the boredom and still having to do it
In the past I have put a 1SCU "looting" box in the middle bay. Then later put 4x 2SCU boxes there in my Max. It is a bit tricky to get them to squeeze through the door just right. I feel C.I.G. need to re-work that door to more of a double sliding door [_|_] !!! Much like the "TOS" Star Trek {swoosh}
Man, so it's my fault if the crate falls off the floor or when accidentally or not, opening the hangar doors would just make the cargos on the floor disappear... I'm not sure what partial deliveries do, if you lose rep and/or lose some payment
It's funny, when you say your USB devices disconnected and reconnected I have the same problem when I play where it's like suddenly my USB devices are ignored - but only when playing SC never anything else. I assumed it was my computer but seeing you have the same problem makes me wonder.
Max lift can carry more and project a longer beam, but it's min range is further from you so is not very good in tight places where you need to drop the box right at your toes while you back is on a wall as well as it has a slower trace speed then the multi tool.
The reason your USB devices did that is because of Windows Power Management. It will use more power, but you can turn off USB Selective Suspend in the advanced settings of Power Options. This will keep them from being turned off by Windows to save system resources.
i really REALLY wish they just told us how many boxes, instead of x amount of SCU, or maybe a mix of everything together, cause you dont tell a truck driver he's shipping 354 thousand skittles in boxes that are 4 by 4 meters,
@@jimmy5322hk I know you can see the the size of the boxes but when you have 80scu it's nice to know how many boxes you have in total for instance 6x8 scu and like 8x4 scu boxes so when one goes missing you don't need to math you just need to count
I've only tried the new system a little bit, but I DO NOT like it. I flew my Cutter to Wala to buy diamonds to sell at Area 18. I landed, had to put the cargo on the elevator and then had to leave my ship sitting open while loading the cargo. My problem is, what's to stop someone from wandering over with a tractor beam and stealing my cargo? What's to stop them going up into my ship while it's sitting there open? Don't like it.
been playing since 2020, backer since 2016. right now im super sick of star citizen, just sick of all the bugs, every single time i login, just not putting up with it anymore, il come back in 4.0 to try stuff but until then its just not worth it anymore. gonna go play wow and space marine.
It's a shame the payouts are so low, none of those contracts would have fit in the smaller entry level ships that a newer player might have and if you've got a bigger ship like a freelancer or renting one you can make more money for your time running other cargo with less flying and fuel use, It's easy money I guess, just feels it could be adjusted, It's not something that's going to help you progress to buying another ship without a grind of flying back and forth for days at a time, I'm not sure the total time it took you to make 30-40k in this video yet the video is 20 minutes long and that doesn't cover the cost of renting the ship iirc?
I have to say it: For me, entire MISC brand needs an aesthetic rework... Those ships looks like terrible for me, so "old fashioned design style". Like people imagine starships in the 1960s. So awful ;(
To some, that's the appeal, maybe a graphical update but I like that "airstream" design choice personally. It's the outdated function that shys me away like the freelancer hump and unintuitive layout of the starfarer
Don't buy a freelancer. Literally every other middle class freighter is better. The Small storage is not useable for anything but dilivery boxes. 1SCU is too big for the door.
Never change Farrister. Your videos make me want to come back to the game but also chill me the hell out.

If you have a metal desk, or any kind of inline direct connection to your PC, and have any issues with static electricity, that's the issue I've been having with all my devices disconnecting and reconnecting. I've also had PC issues in the past where the motherboard was starting to fail causing similar issues.
I think it may have been Windows power management!
The issue I have with panels is selling them...
Ive been using my Taurus, man loading and unloading is great. Im up to Junior. Only had one issue with an on planet terminal that was locked up.
Taurus is wonderful!
you can squeeze a 1SCU box into the lancer through that hatch on the top! Best in zero-g, and not for cargo missions. Maybe just 1 or 2 scu of stor-all cargo boxes for your own loot - and a comfy chair or two!
Not for the faint of heart!
I'm gonna try the caterpillar, if I don't like that Taurus it is
Taurus is great!
The Taurus tractor experience is the best for me.
Taurus is fantastic!
Yet to go into contracts, only so far delivered cargo through a Vulture and through the C1, picking up a batch of mined goods. I don't feel like I'd want bigger and more SCU's of cargo. But we'll see.
I love the Freelancer. It's fun to fly, despite the narrow cockpit view. I do with we had runways though.
Love using the Hull A for hauling. Shame it can't hold more than 64SCU. This limits what hauling missions unless you want to make two trips
Hull A is fantastic for the price!
Earning in game is a smart way to go!
@@Farrister Right after this video I watched a video about soaring quantum fuel prices in SC. It seems they'll do about anything to prevent people from enjoying this fictional universe.
I heard that the larger tractor beam has more range, or the smaller tractor beam range was shortened.
14:54 You just can't. The door in Carrack is too narrow for any kind of boxes.
Sounds about right...
Thanks for letting me know!
How do you get boxes through that door?
I've tried changing it, thanks for the suggestion :)
I have a Carrack and i dont think there is a way to open the cargo hold at the moment so unless you stack the boxes in the vehicle garage or the landing bay i dont believe you can do much cargo but i might be wrong.
yeah carrack and hull C both dont work
Awkward :(
It would be nice to give the patch a go but if the cargo contracts aren't working too reliably yet I can wait.
It's a bit rocky
Nice info.
Thanks
The only problem with cargo hauling is that the missions are the only way that cargo hauling is currently working.
Freight elevators at places like Scd-1 are still broken and stuck and almost never work.
And then after the update I’ve had problems with 9tails randomly being in the armistice zone and are unkillable for that reason but are able to shoot and kill you.
I’ve started a mission of spamming CIG with tickets about this until they fix it.
Thank you for showing this i ll wait few more weeks to jump on it 😅
Does the Mule now can get 1SCU boxes with the front hardware? So we can move on a more fun mode the boxes to the ship and from the ship?
I'm not sure, need to test it
I’m wondering not if the Hull-C works now, but does it work with Haulage contracts?
The issue is how you would load or unload it, it doesn't land when extended
Interestingly my USB keyboard keeps disconnecting while playing SC quite regularly too, resulting in frames freezing for up to half a minute
I'm enjoying 3.24 and have been setting up all my ships around the hangar,
Not that I'm aware of :(
It will be cool to have robots auto loading and unloading your cargo in nice places but you would have to do it manually in remote places. Could be a balance between the boredom and still having to do it
In the past I have put a 1SCU "looting" box in the middle bay. Then later put 4x 2SCU boxes there in my Max. It is a bit tricky to get them to squeeze through the door just right. I feel C.I.G. need to re-work that door to more of a double sliding door [_|_] !!! Much like the "TOS" Star Trek {swoosh}
You may have been on 1 of the servers running the new Networking thing
Man I miss your vids
Press the bell icon to not miss any ;) :D
Will you be doing a Post Hotfix(s) Hauling video/tutorial/infomercial?
How do you get your hands on that little cargo transporter, looked like a forklift thing?
The MaxLift? Buy it from a refinery deck - 19k aUEC iirc
Man, so it's my fault if the crate falls off the floor or when accidentally or not, opening the hangar doors would just make the cargos on the floor disappear...
I'm not sure what partial deliveries do, if you lose rep and/or lose some payment
:(
i just started 2 months afgter this video was upladed and i cant seem to even get a dock at the stations to get my cargo
My cargo didn't got accepted for the sell order i made for copper. Now the 291 scu of copper are gone.
Is auto loading available at this point? If so, how is that initiated? Is it size dependent?
I think it's just for buying/selling cargo, and not hauling - unless I missed something!
@@Farrister thanks for taking the time to reply 👍
P.S. The video shows only two contracts in the top right of the screen??
do you have access to a KORE? I'm wondering how much you can put in 'off grid'.
man, I want to get back to playing this game but I have serious PTSD since the last time I tried it
It's funny, when you say your USB devices disconnected and reconnected I have the same problem when I play where it's like suddenly my USB devices are ignored - but only when playing SC never anything else. I assumed it was my computer but seeing you have the same problem makes me wonder.
Max lift can carry more and project a longer beam, but it's min range is further from you so is not very good in tight places where you need to drop the box right at your toes while you back is on a wall as well as it has a slower trace speed then the multi tool.
i was hyped for 2 seconds and of course my mission was bugged immideatly and none other woould work
:(
agreed freelance max is the better choice for new players cause its a multi roll ship you can cargo or roc mine
The USB issue might be power or motherboard. :-(
We need a forklift now
I played in the first hour and a half after the patch dropped. It was great! What on earth happened? Feel so sorry for everyone else.
Yeah :(
wait, port Tressler is back?
Yes
The reason your USB devices did that is because of Windows Power Management. It will use more power, but you can turn off USB Selective Suspend in the advanced settings of Power Options. This will keep them from being turned off by Windows to save system resources.
Will give it a go, thanks!
Every time I try this, I get to 3009 error
:(
i really REALLY wish they just told us how many boxes, instead of x amount of SCU, or maybe a mix of everything together, cause you dont tell a truck driver he's shipping 354 thousand skittles in boxes that are 4 by 4 meters,
Check mission title. Extra small means 1scu boxes. Small means 4scu boxes.
@@jimmy5322hk I know you can see the the size of the boxes but when you have 80scu it's nice to know how many boxes you have in total for instance 6x8 scu and like 8x4 scu boxes so when one goes missing you don't need to math you just need to count
I want the rework!!
Not first, but maybe first
been playing since 2020, backer since 2016.
right now im super sick of star citizen, just sick of all the bugs, every single time i login, just not putting up with it anymore, il come back in 4.0 to try stuff but until then its just not worth it anymore. gonna go play wow and space marine.
Shockingly low payout
It's a shame the payouts are so low, none of those contracts would have fit in the smaller entry level ships that a newer player might have and if you've got a bigger ship like a freelancer or renting one you can make more money for your time running other cargo with less flying and fuel use, It's easy money I guess, just feels it could be adjusted, It's not something that's going to help you progress to buying another ship without a grind of flying back and forth for days at a time, I'm not sure the total time it took you to make 30-40k in this video yet the video is 20 minutes long and that doesn't cover the cost of renting the ship iirc?
You would think when releasing a "Cargo Patch" that you'd fix all the things cargo related, like, IDK... the Mule. But no, it's still useless!!! FFS!
You would hope...
I have to say it: For me, entire MISC brand needs an aesthetic rework... Those ships looks like terrible for me, so "old fashioned design style". Like people imagine starships in the 1960s. So awful ;(
So old fashioned!
Me and my brother tried hauling lastnight, it was the worst star citizen experience I've had in the last 10 years, absolutely soul destroying.....
man this game is just so broken
This gameplay looks exceedingly boring. Also note that all your efforts will be wiped.
