To top it off, he only got community service for his actions...wtf??? This kids parents and the justice system have done nothing to show this kid appropriate consequences for his actions.

As a bipolar 1 sufferer, therapy is definitely helpful. If you don’t mind pharmaceuticals, then with a doc and faith in yourself you can medicate and tweak it until you have a second within yourself to be able to decide how to respond instead of instantly reacting. Which is where the flying off the handle comes from, is that lack of a second of hesitancy to be able to decide how to react/respond than just that knee jerk response.
It’s taken me either 9 years or a whole decade to find a balance and better way to live. Key is not to give up on yourself even if it’s hard as hell. Be stubborn and keep on it because that might save your ass later.
As humans, no matter the disorder, we are responsible for our own actions, words, reactions/responses, opinions, and etc. No disorder should be able to absolve someone from a socially deplorable behavior. Like Karen rage-outs in the middle of Walmart where they throw a fit like a behaviorally challenged 3rd grader. They’re still responsible for their choices no matter the supporting disorder. Disorders aren’t an excuse to behave badly but a challenge to be a better person than you feel you can be.

You obviously know nothing about bipolar. I dated a man who was bipolar so I'll fill you in on a few things. It doesn't make you lose your morals but one of the consequences of a manic episode is wild impulsivity. It absolutely will make you lose your manners people become can become incredibly agitated during manic periods for seemingly no reason. Another key part of manic episodes is grandiosity and egocentric behavior. They have a very hard time taking accountability for their actions during an episode. My ex who's bipolar and doesn't gamble at all once had a really bad manic episode booked a flight to Vegas and cleaned out his bank account at the casino. Bipolar disorder isn't an excuse for bad behavior but it certainly is the cause of it in many many cases. This disease commonly ruins peoples lives and makes it very hard for them to fit into society or keep people close to them. Of course they are responsible for their actions. They're also living with a disease that periodically destroys their impulse control and inhibition. They often have serious issues with guilt, shame and, depression because they realize in hindsight how shameful their actions were. They deserve compassion not judgement.

For the last story, OP is thinking too hard about being the one to "fix" the situation. After all, they weren't the only one to get money. Their brother also got an inheritance, and from how they make it sound, other cousins will as well (at 18 yo), and I don't think anyone else is gonna give away their inheritance to fix the situation. Besides, the money could also help them as well, to help pay a place of their own, or even college payments (if that's something they plan to do)

    • @JadeCaro

Also... Why are the parents thinking of adopting when they're financially struggling? That makes no sense. People shouldn't have kids when they can't afford to raise them properly. It'd be different if they'd gotten pregnant accidentally, but actively wanting to adopt when you can't afford it is just wrong. And no matter how bad of a relationship you have with someone, getting upset if they get money for their cancer treatment would make you a terrible human being.

    2. Your grandmother has cancer. It is a life and death matter so tell her or your grandfather to keep you in touch so you can help with the bills if you want to (and it seems you want to.

Story #3. I'm not sure if the tax code is still on the books but in the U.S. there is (or was - if it has changed in the last 10 years) a sort of inheritance loophole. A person can leave their monies/property(s) to a Grandchild or Great Grandchild and the inheritance tax is greatly reduced. It could be that the Great Grandmother purposely divided her money to the GGs to save the money from high taxes if it was given to her children. Also, she obviously knew about the animosity between her daughter amd Granddaughter and thought it could be possibly safer to just leave the money to the next generation down to keep them from fighting.

Just because you're bipolar doesn't mean you can go as insane as the nephew. I've been dealing with it for the last twenty-three years. It's best to keep a steady routine, cuddle sessions with plushies and a good therapist, and keeping activities that makes you truly smile and happy, around the home. No chances of losing control when your hands and mind are occupied. Still though, sounds like the nephew wasn't raised properly at all, but great that the youngest ones matured and are doing better.

This is why you love them and teach them compassion, this is why they learn the consequences of their actions, this is why you tell your kids no instead of promising them everything.
I could go on, but from the sounds of it this nephew could easily have avoided this behavior if his parents just cared for him.
The fact that he lacks remorse for his actions and blames other things when given a scap goat is proof enough to me that he has never been taught compassion. Here's to hoping he isn't an actual psychopath because he sounds dangerous if he is.

First story, when she got home I’d tell her the next time she left her kids without my permission I’d call dcs to pick them up. Don’t let this woman abuse you. Her complete disregard and disrespect for you with her probably verbal abuse is ridiculous. As a home health nurse I used to help my patients get rid of parasites like her.

Isnt the first story some type of elder abuse? like there's no way she can just drop 3 kids off with a 75 year old woman for hours on end and not pay her at all , also wouldn't that warrant some type of child services call cause that's gotta be some type of neglect leaving kids with a stranger (neighbor or not) that has obvious health issues they could endanger the kids.

The Karen on the first story is absolutely ridiculous and selfish. Imagine telling someone to get out of an ambulance saying they need to watch your kids, absolutely entitled. I bet if the patient had gotten off and something happened to her later on she wouldn't even feel a tad bit sorry and will just complain about how she now does not have a baby sitter. She needs a hard reality check and i hope that taser was a starting point and maybe a few more for good measure too ;)

The nephew has issues but ostracizing him from the family is unacceptable. Those grandparents should be ashamed of themselves. That’s not gonna help him it’s not his fault that he was the Guinea pig child to shitty parents. I think he needs love patience understanding prayer and forgiveness.

Cant the Karen from story one be charged with child abandonment because she left them with someone they barely knew for long periods at a time? Also can’t she be charged with reckless endangerment because she was trying to take the ambulance cot out the ambulance and could have killed her?

Story II: Those parents are obviously incapable and ill equipped to give their oldest what he needs in the way of discipline and their oldest has alienated the rest of the family to the extent that the repercussions are harmful to the oldest son. He needs to be sent to some sort of boot camp/academy for a change of venue in order to get the rehabilitation that he needs. It's the only way he's going to have a snow- ball's chance of becoming a respectful and respectable human being.

    To all the OP's:
    1. You sid the right thing calling the cops, and hearing that she got tased is honestly so satisfying. Maybe she'll leave her neighbor alone now.. I hope she does!
    2. I can't believe he threw the hammer in your window. He clearly was in blind rage and didn't think about it hitting you. I'm hoping he leaves you alone when he grows up, but I do feel a little bad that he's kicked out of the family traditions and holidays... I mean, he is still a kid after all, but it could alos make him resent people even more which is what I'm worried about..
    3. I would probably do what this guy said, and keep the money. You should save it for future endevors such as college, or if you suddenly need quick money. Just be sure not to spend it all in one place.

In stead of giving the money offer to help pay for treatment for your grandparents cancer and to put a fraction of the money towards your parents fund raiser that way you are giving some and keeping some that way nobody will feel hurt, but what you decide to do with the money is completely up to you and what feels right to you.

I think the best way for the inheritance thing is dividing, if you wanna give to the both of them, split the money into thirds but not equally, the most amount of money for your grandparents for the cancer treatment, the least money to your parents and the rest for you, and only for your grandparents and you then 50/50, is your choice anyways and it's your money if you wanna keep it to yourself completely.
