- The twelfth full moon of 2023, sees the release of the final track to be revealed from Peter Gabriel’s album i/o. This final song, the last to be written for the album, is called Live and Let Live.
This is the Dark-Side Mix by Tchad Blake.

The song is accompanied by the striking ‘Soundsuit’ artwork of Chicago based artist Nick Cave.
Written and produced by Peter Gabriel, Live and Let Live is a song about forgiveness, tolerance and optimism. A joyous, rousingly-positive closing note for the album.
‘Music can be like a box of mood pills that we can use to treat ourselves and a lot of the work of the Reverberation project is focused on that sort of idea. When someone suggested that forgiveness might be a topic to write about, at first, I thought, ‘that's not interesting to me,’ but then I remembered two things. Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who was the chair of The Elders and a real mentor for me, led the Truth and Reconciliation Committee in South Africa and that really allowed people to expose, report and maybe feel again some of the horrors of the apartheid era. I remember he always said that listening made a huge difference, just making sure people felt heard and recognized. Then, sometimes, it created a space for forgiveness.
There's also a description that Nelson Mandela gave when he was released from jail after 27 years in prison and found himself about to become president of South Africa, standing next to some of the people who'd been responsible for keeping him in jail all that time. He said he felt some of the old fear and hatred swelling up inside him but when he thought hard about it, he realized that he needed to find a way to work with these people, to build what he called his rainbow coalition. He needed to feel their humanity and ultimately to find a way to forgive them. He was quite sure that if he couldn't forgive them and find a way to work with them, that he would remain their prisoner for the rest of his days.
Now, I know if we look at what's happening in the Middle East now or in Ukraine, all sorts of places around the world where there's still violence and brutality, to walk around with a bunch of flowers, preaching forgiveness seems trite and pathetic, maybe. But in the long run, I think people have to find a way. ‘Peace only happens when you respect the rights of others’ is a quote from the Peace University in Costa Rica and I think that's a really important message for me and for my life. You either belong to that hurt or you free yourself and forgiveness is clearly a super effective way of freeing yourself.’
Live and Let Live, the last song to have been written for the album, features contributions from many players already heard on other songs, such as Tony Levin, David, Rhodes, Manu Katché, Brian Eno, Melanie Gabriel, John Metcalfe and the New Blood Orchestra. Notable other contributions come from Steve Gadd ‘wonderful grooves created with brushes’ that are looped at the start of the song, some beautiful trumpet by Paolo Fresu ‘soulful and poetic’ and the return of the singers of Soweto Gospel choir ‘great voices and this deep soulfulness, their additions are always wonderful for me.’
These November full moon releases all come with artwork ‘Soundsuit’ by Nick Cave.
‘Nick Cave does a lot performance, movement and dance work, but these extraordinary figures, for which he is best known, ‘Soundsuits’, are amazing. They are like armour. Beneath all this exuberant colour you can’t actually sense the race, the class, the wealth or the gender of the person wearing the Soundsuit, so, you have that sense that you are not going to get attacked for pre-conceived ideas about who you are or what people like you are like… it’s a very positive spin on a negative situation. Nick’s work is very interesting and unusual and I am very glad that he was happy to be part of this.’

A fitting End to a journey that began this year and took us through the process and progress of a great artist sharing beautiful, timeless art with us as he always has. Quicker, we of course always hope, but you can't rush perfection. This is an amazing collection of songs as a result of a true labor of love that also encapsulates the experience of living and aging in this increasingly chaotic world, yet at the same time provides contemplative space within the sounds for much reflection, both outward and inward. Sharing these songs with us, along with updates on their progress along with the different collaborations with artists of various media, has been a blessing not easily taken for granted, and I look forward to owning this creation as soon as I am able, hopefully in time for the holidays.
It’s amazing how we all in these times take solace in the music. What Peter delivers. Brings a tear to your eye doesn’t it!?!

Thanks Peter for this new album and all this music through the years... This song is probably my favorite one form the new album even if it still has to grow on me. The lyrics are so powerful and the music so optimistic. Another hymn like Biko or In your eyes for sure !!!

I grew up in the 80s, so I knew Peter's MTV hits. I've only recently discovered early Genesis and Peter's solo career between then and now. My oh my. This man's music and performance has touched my soul. I'm enamored with Watcher of the Skies, Supper's Ready, Dancing with the Moonlit Knight, and so many others. Mr. Gabriel, your music is so beautiful, powerful, and really important. I'm indoctrinating all my friends and family, most of them really love Selling England by The Pound, and your first self-titled album. (Car).

ahhh, this version feels like it has room to breathe.. the expanse that is created towards the last third gives room for the appreciation of the trumpet’s mood, the guitar at the opposite end, & the choir is more heard, appreciated w/their depth granted sonic exploration through to its end, like a slow finale bow as the entire piece takes slow steps back into the silence of the end.. thank you!

Hoooooo que ouiiiiiiiiiii. Ça a été un moment tant attendu de vibrer sur les chefs d'oeuvres musicaux de PETER GABRIEL ! Toutes les créations de Peter Gabriel ont été d'une importance incomparable durant toute ces années ! Lorsque qu'un artiste comme lui, dès son premier album solo reçoit le grand prix de l'Académie Cros j'ai su que l'œuvre après le dernier album avec Genesis serait monumentale. Et ça à été le cas ! PETER GABRIEL marquera à jamais la musique contemporaine du 20eme et du 21 ème siècle ! Beaucoup ne se rendent pas compte qu'il a conquis la position d'un très très grand, comme l'a été Mozart et tant d'autres en leur temps ! C'est un génie ! Un créateur immensément grand, qui sera totalement reconnu comme cet état ! La maîtrise totale des technologies pour la création musicale parsinonieuselent et avec un talent d'utilisation tellement évident ! Il ne peut en être autrement ! En un mot, c'est un vrai génie !

Fan depuis toujours, je suis venu vous voir et vous écouter à plusieurs reprises et même eu la chance de vous saluer alors que vous faisiez votre petit tour de vélo avant votre deuxième show au Zénith de Paris pour le Secret World Tour.
Énorme déception lors de la dernière tournée I/o , j’ai eu des places très mal placées et je n’ai pu que vous écouter sans pouvoir profiter du show (live nation et ticket master n’ont eu aucun scrupules à vendre ces places, shame on them 😉 !)
Bref en général il y a une tournée européenne , puis une tournée Us, et vous remettez le couvert pour d’autres dates en Europe …
Alors je me mets à espérer que.vous viendrez à Lyon (en 2014 une extinction de voix nous a privé de votre concert qui a été annulé le matin pour le soir, vous imaginez notre deception !)
Lyon a désormais la LDLC Arena avec une capacité de 16.000 places … alors si vous en avez encore l’envie et l’énergie, on vous attend Peter !

What a great song for our times or any time. Ive been going back and forth for two days between the bright and dark mixes. This is only one of a couple of tracks where i like both mixes equally but for different reasons. It's a perfect last song after a year of full moons
