I've had my leather racer jacket for years but only wore it on special occasions and only with a shirt because it was rather snug. Your video on how it should fit made me realize it was tight. Your video on how to expand the leather made me wear it more often (albeit it was soaking wet and me with way too many layers to help expand it). Another underrated mearuement is the shoulders, you would be surprised how much that opens up the back to allow for more layers, so when you do the hug test it does not feel tight.
Thanks for the video, I have several leather jackets, some are a little bigger for the winter when I layer up. My others are smaller just for t shirt underneath, thanks again
Hey dear Duds, this is really a very helpful and inspirational video, what you can wear under these cool perfecto leather jackets! Appreciate it Mark! This is exactly the kind of advice that seems obvious if you're already following it...but lots of folks are missing out. Have a good one man
I’ve been watching these and hop I purchased the right size! My Vanson should be arriving next week. I ordered the MK2 but it doesn’t come with the belt.
I have 2 Eastman A-2s. One 44 for Tshirt or even a light shirt over that but that’s it. I have a 46 I can really layer, thick hoodie but still doesn’t look over sized when wearing with just a Tshirt. They’re both beautiful and wouldn’t sell either. Great video to justify having a layer jacket and non layer one. I’m older so I think the A-2s are more appropriate for an older guy🤣
This video proves that sizing/fit is as important as a beautiful jacket. And, if it ain't comfortable, it will rarely make it ot of the back of the coat closet. Leather jackets are notorious for great wind and water protection but not great for temperature regulation. Your Cal will allow you to layer up in really cold weather. I know this is anathema to leather jacket purists, but I frequently wear a down sweater underneath my leather jackets when the temps dip into the teens.
Thanks man! Yes…if you don’t reach for it, why keep it?! I get there are collectors, and no problem with that. But most folks I feel are buying things to use em I’ve seen Karsten wear what I think are technical down vests under his jackets. I’ve used fleeces and all sorts of different wool items under my jackets too. Will be curious to see how my jacket use has to adapt to the cooler North Carolina weather!
With my leather jacket (large) I can wear a hoodie and t shirt under it comfortably but it’s slightly tight in my biceps. Other than that I can still move relatively comfortably.
Good video! I’m currently struggling with what size leather jacket to get as I normally wear a medium or a 22.5 pit to pit in a non leather jacket, and with my 44” chest they fit great, but they are also not leather and have some give. With my chest, most places say I’m an XL and that just doesn’t seem right.
@@jasonkrasowski4673 if youre a 44” chest, you may consider 48” (or 24” pit to pit) a trim fit. Smaller may work depending on features like action back, armhole placement, etc. Generally around 4” ease for trim and 6”+ ease for layers is a decent starting place
Yeah this is one of the harder decisions to make for a jacket. Ive done slim fit for most of mine, but sort of regret it because when its cold i rarely have just a t shirt on.
Hi, amazing illustration. Could you also do the same for a loose and baggy bomber jacket? I bought one online and realised its two sizes bigger. Its a loely Schott IS-674-MS which I don't want to let go. Thanks.
@@obeasthead you need the extra space to move around in, else the jacket would be painted on and too tight. So with a 44 chest go for a 44 if you like the trim fit you see on me, or a 46 if you want more room for layers. This sizing advice holds true for all the 25” perfecto models. I was wondering about it, also, because I'm thinking on buying a taylor made biker leather jacket. 1rst leather jacket I would own, actually. So, I pretty much love slim fit on jackets, but also love layering; so this kind of help. But I just think why would you double layer 2 thick garments under a leather jacket though. If climate is that cold, I guess you would want to wear a thicker jacket that already offers the warmth you need at the moment. The layering in that kind of jacket is usually a hoodie over a shirt and under a jacket. Or a shirt under a jacket. If you need more protection, maybe a scarf for outside temperature. I wonder if there's a video that would help to know how much a leather jacket would stretch out in the arms after some months. I saw a video of a guy wearing a really slim fit biker jacket, and it seems like he was moving pretty comfy. He was only wearing a t shirt under that jacket, though.
About the layers demonstrated here: you could imagine one thick layer instead of both of these to get an idea of what you can wear with this amount of space in a jacket. If you check out my other recent sizing video I discuss “chest ease” and how it relates to fit. I’d check that one out. Leather jackets don’t really impart warmth on their own. The lining matters a lot. But the thickness of the leather has almost no impact. So what you’re wearing underneath matters a lot for how warm you’ll be. A good example is I have a thick wool sweater from Woolrich that’s too thick to wear under my Schott 618 but is very comfortable under my Cal As to stretching, so much depends on both the hide used and the particular cut. I agree it’d be useful but hard (and expensive) to get good comprehensive data about it
