  • MBTA Commuter Rail (operated by Keolis) Middleborough/Lakeville Line Trains No. 012 (inbound) and 009 (outbound) arrive at Brockton station. Brockton is the approximate "midpoint" of the line and this station is also the location of the central hub for Brockton Area Transit (BAT) local bus routes. The Middleborough/Lakeville Line is the former Old Colony Railroad Cape Main Line, which historically extended all the way to Provincetown, MA. Commuter service has been cut back to Middleborough since the earliest days of the MBTA, though summer tourist service further south to Hyannis was restored in 2013 under the CapeFLYER brand.
Both of these trains consist of bilevel coaches and an HSP46 locomotive, which are the MBTA's newest engines. Most of the commuter rail lines operating from South Station run with either an HSP46 or an F40PH-3C, as these are the only two locomotive models that are EPA Tier III compliant, which is necessary due to air quality restrictions in many of the tunnels along the Old Colony Lines and the Southwest Corridor.
