Ostehøvel, as we call it here in Norway is absolutely goated. I was genuinely shocked when I realized that the rest of the world just use a knife instead. Also a fun surprise to realize that the cheese slicer is a Norwegian invention :)
regarding that mayo and butter topic, i never really thought about it as i never talk to my friends about their sandwiches, but as a polish who grew up in america i have never seen the mayo on sandwiches besides in restaurants and purely used butter for sandwiches. More recently though we switched to a polish specific brand of butter and its soooo much better than american butter. Meaning that there is a chance that most americans may only have tried butter for cooking and not sandwiches due to the worse butter that there are. Just my random thought and experience regarding that topic
