love the DDJ range of products from Pioneer Dj, the DDJ 200 looks towards the fun and have a go side of djing. Inexpensive, compact and simplicity . For someone really wanting to progress and take a real shot at djing I'd suggest the DDJ 400. Horses for courses.
As someone that edits videos for other channels ....what a video this was . Super clear and super helpful
Thanks a lot Naay!
I’m a huge pioneer man and have two of thier controllers and I just bought this for my son and it actually works really good
Excellent and insightful review, Phil, as ever. Thank you!
You're welcome!
This was suuuuper helpful, thank you so much! Definitely going for this for my first controller!
Awesome!
This looks like a handy controller for me if I ever decide to do a mix when out hiking.
I currently use a ddj 800 & iMac at home but this and my iPhone would be great when on the road connected to a small portable speaker.
How cool is this little thing! I've been dj-ing for over 15 years - using vinyl, CD's, timecode, Mp3 / Rekordbox USB, midi controllers, you name it - and I get truly excited about this device. Nice little toy for myself and my 6 year old son to play around with. Definitely getting this.
Agreed! A lot of fun to be had with it
This is the perfect controller , I have been waiting for my road trips and such. Imagine taking this thing on a plane, in a car , to the beach etc. definitely getting this!
Cool :) Send us some photos of you DJing in weird and wonderful places...
For everyone frowning down on this (and thumping their collective "well-I-myself-use-only-turntables-blah-blah"), I think you're missing a HUGE point here. WIRELESS MIDI controller? That's pretty freaking groundbreaking. And I can see exactly why Pioneer has opted to introduce the technology to the casual user. First off, the hardcore, working DJs would normally scoff at this (shocker!). But, MIDI, when mapped properly, can have zero latency. MIDI is what's driving your top of the line DJ controllers (and time code vinyl BTW :) ). Just like rap music in the 80's, and digital DJing now, streaming music is here to stay. And its only going to get better from here.
Good points Shawn,
Thanks for your introduction for beginners and it is the great one easily to understand and full of knowledge.
No problem! Glad to help
Wow! Pioneer is really pushing the industry! This is a total surprise. And coming off the just released DDJ 800. This is an excellent review video. Thanks!
You're welcome!
Dear Phil, to start with, i want to thank you for all your affords and Videos. They were really often help- and useful for me, wether it was just for a comparision or better Information on product(s), dj-ing in General, mixing techniques or also making a choice or decisision easier for me. Respect, and thumbs up (also to your Team, of course). I really like (nearly have to say admire) the way you managed to turn your Hobby, interest, knowledge and "from-the-heart-thing" into a Profession and a professionally running, well informing platform and business. Keep up the good work!
Thanks el Dani, I appreciate those words!
It looks like a pretty neat entry level controller. I remember when I bought the wego 1 years ago and this controller has some of the features that makes it easier to upgrade to bigger controllers. Plus the fact you get rekordbox when you plug it into a Laptop is a big bonus.
Yes, agreed.
I think it‘s a smart move from pioneer to expand and get more people interested in DJing. And if they like it they will probably stay with pioneer and buy their more pro-like gear in the future. The new WeDJ also looks nice. I‘m using turntables but maybe I can see myself getting this as a „let‘s go to the beach and have some fun“ setup.
ive seen a long review on youtube, apparently they might STOP making dj units within few years,
it will be sad if pioneer doesnt progress, but looks like they may fall behind soon . maybe im wrong
only time will tell....
"apparently they might STOP making dj units within few years" - we have never heard this from anyone at Pioneer DJ. Guess the clue is in the name.
@@digitaldjtips if i find the recent video i will reply back withthe link, it is based on a study and a theory of whats been happeing over the years, obviously pioneer will never broadcast their steps ahead, but once you see the theory , it will make sense,or insight into their future with dj equipment
Cool, would like to see.
I like the idea, but not the implementation. Mainly the way everything is connected. Mixer should go to speakers. Why tether a phone? I don't mind the bluetooth though. That was clever.
Awesome video! Very well explained I just bought one and I’m super gassed to get home
I really like it it’s very much adequate to mix if you’re having a get together party, birthdays or any other small events. Thanks for the Wonderful tutorial DJ Carlo 👍🙏
Definitely, it's a fun little controller great for those occasions
Thanks for the review. I just purchased it as my very first DJ mixer. 😊
Awesome, enjoy!
@@digitaldjtips thanks I will, looking forward to it. If I have any questions I'll be sure to drop by and ask for some help. :)
Just in time for Pool/Beach party season. Nice move Pioneer DJ. Great review Phil.
Glad you enjoyed it :)
for a travelling DJ overseas, it seems like a really great controller. thanks for the video, it helped make up my mind.
Glad it helped!
I think this thing is so sick! You can literally DJ anywhere! If you are the type of person that just likes DJing for fun then why hate on this? I can’t carry my setup with me if I am traveling 🤷🏻♂️...I am by no means a professional DJ, I just do it as a hobby because I enjoy it, and sometimes when I am visiting family or friends I wish I had my decks and mixer with me, so how cool would it be to just whip this thing out of your bag and start jamming out and having fun? 😬🙏🏻
We suspect there are LOTS of people like you who feel this way about this.
Just to save you some money you can use djay pro with your ddjsx2 and play any Spotify songs
Thanks so much.
@A H unfortunatley djay pro canceled their spotify-streaming capabilities. Maybe cause of lawsuits or something i dunno. (i think, but double check yourself) thanks
Just got this and i have to say its amazing for its price. Great video 😊
Glad you liked it Kevin :)
Looks great. Great presentation. I think I will be buying one very soon.
Phil, one can use a powerbank as a battery for the controller.
Yes, I mention that in the video. Obviously not quite as convenient as just having batteries on board, though.
This is a game changer for ultra portable setups even for more experienced DJs, since you can power it with a standard USB 5v power bank, which other controllers can’t do including the WeGo4. No laptop, outlet, or generator/expensive portable AC power necessary. Just your iphone/ipad, USB battery, and a good portable speaker like a JBL Boombox/Extreme and you can renegade DJ ANYWHERE with a full 3 band EQ mixer at a beach bonfire, park picnic, festival campsite, etc where I’d never bring my pricey laptop.
Take it you like it? :)
I totally agree with this sentiment... my only issue is that its still only iOS which i already have with Traktor and the kontrol z1, (i hate overpriced apple stuff, but I caved and bought a used iPad to run the software which I use with my Goal Zero Yeti 150 to be "portable" in the outdoors). Traktor has a sound interface that sounds great and headphone input but no streaming service integration to my knowledge. But still waiting for Android for both, so it's a waiting game for me...
@@DJMARINKOx Traktor DJ 2 is coming very soon with Soundcloud Go+ streaming and will still work with your Z1 right away. My only hope is they'll make the new version compatible with my old S4 Mk2.
Time will tell...
I have an XDJ-RX2 because I don't like to rely on laptops, but it'd be nice to also have a DDJ-200 to cover requests and access music I didn't think to bring. Fantastic unit! Fantastic review!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
your reveiw was great,i've finally made my decision that i will buy it
Cool, enjoy it!
Theres A App To Connect To The DDJ 200 Called Edjing Mix
"Don't you guys have phones?"
been a dj for 20 years and use mainly vinyl with serato, but this is awesome. im gonna buy this just ot be able to mix anywhere,, especially when im on vacation with friends and family.
Cracking review looks really good for the newbie and price! Thank you
You're welcome Peter. Something you'd be interested in?
looks like a hercules controller, nice for training on the go i suppose
You can use a powerbank to power it,
You've done very well with this video. I want it now.
Thanks Allan! It's a great controller
Great stuff Phil, I've just got one to take round to friends to recreate the Tangled experience of a Saturday night.
Ha ha, enjoy it!
Might need to change the title, doesn't work with spotify anymore
I like the formfactor but who makes a new controller in 2019 without including a soundcard?
Well it's certainly the first for a while.
Quick, fun, and mobile setup. Pretty unique and future guided for mobile djing. Its going to get mainstream for sure with everyone. I used Edjing Pro on my android and it is quite fun and serves as a backup. Not easy for hectic mix sets and long hours, but for that quick setup to get a party going. I love the internet streams from soundcloud, spotify etc...
Yes, we do too!
I've got a dedicated set up at home, but this looks great to travel with or just bring over for informal fun parties and whatnot.
Definitely.
It definitely looks like the DDJ-400
Smaller version, cut down some buttons, remove all the jack and you got the new DJ Controller
Bringz a all new meaning to mobile dj mobile get it lol 😂 doh
Wow! Three minutes in and I’m sold!
What appeals most to you about it?
It's compact and you can stream a massive amount of tunes from a lot of sites!!!!
Yes! :)
really great review, i was comparing Numark with this one, and I think this one wins it as it has pioneers rekorder software too, many thanks
Glad we could help!
What happens when you get a call? :D
Ion Petre Georgescu really tho
may it has cue option for a call
Flight mode is there buddyy ;)
Exactly.
or how do you tell your friends you're playing? :))
I hope WeDJ updates to an iPad version with better user interface
Yes, but comparatively of course, there are far fewer iPads than iPhones out there...
Android at any point
It doesn't work on iPad???
Yes, but the WeDJ app is written for iPhone so would look a bit clunky. djay works on iPad.
Love your reviews Phil 🤘🤘🤘
Thanks Carlos
Hello,
I just bought this mixer and I would like to start streaming for my friends online. Do you know how to set up a stream on youtube with this particular mixer? I looked at your other video on how to set up a stream but the info. there does not apply to this product.
Thank you!
Incredible !
The DJ Industry keeps producing smaller, compact coontrollers for a low price.
Maybe in the future there will be another company like in the mobile industry "Huawei", which produces DJ Controllers with many functions under 100 bucks.
Maybe!
Looks like this is replacing the DDJ WeGo
That’s what I’m thinking too. No WeGo5 I guess.
We would hazard a guess that there will be no WeGO 5, although we have no insider knowledge on that.
WeGo is way better..it has audio outputs for a start...just get a WeGo4 and and iPad pro and the latest Djay for an awesome starter setup. For those wanting to play put you should invest a bit more in the dj400 or the dj1000 where you can use record box and familiarise yourself with club gear
being able to stream the songs you want to dj live. game changer...
We agree!
Reminds me of a cut down Traktor Kontrol S2 running off an iPad. That's the first kit I ever used, it was great fun and got me hooked.
Great proposition, but the lack of an audio interface is something horrible! If this thing had a basic audio interface and a midi cable it would be so much better. I was hoping it would be something like the wego with the tiny audio card, the usb midi connection and the basic outputs (headphones and speakers). I think itwould be much more usefull and people would keep it more time once they learn the basics and fall in love with this dj world.
Personally, I dont think it is a great product, just a good idea. Pioneer shoul be thinking more about the future of their new djs like they did with the wego. That controller could be mapped for other software and had separation of audio for you and the crowd. Sorry pioneer, but you didn't knocked it out of the park this time.
Yeah I agree with this.
The sound output is NOT STEREO
It's a toy so what?
Exactly. For that reason it’s not good even for a house party
Nobody ever dissed a house party because the music was in mono. If they did. I'd ask them to leave if it were my house! 🤣
Pretty much every club mixer, outside of the top clubs in the world, is set to put out in mono anyways.
True dat.
Nice for beginners! My question is what does the sweep fx do? Is is it just a bandpass effect? I have a DDJ-1000, and I just don’t understand when I’d want to use it in my mix.
this looks sick as cant wait till it comes out
It is out!
I'll pass for this one. I will wait for the DDJ-600, its a 4-channel mixer with a footprint of the DDJ-400....
There is now a '600 hole in the range, isn't there...
Thats what am waiting for the hole to be filled
Wait what really? 4 Channels for a reasonable price should be great option. But I will probably save for a DDJ-1000 instead.
Ddj 2000 for me 👌👌 after owning the 1000 for a while im interested to see how far pioneer will go with this 🔥
Jamie Maher-Pringle i think they might do it! A 4-channel XDJ-RX2 will be called DDJ-2000
OMG!!! I would kill for that transition effects pack on Traktor!
Even with my dodgy demo of it? - Phil
Digital DJ Tips Yup!!!
Those x fader effects ahaha it's like hey mate have some free skillz! It's a bit more fun to to that with an rmx1000, filters, eq's and faders but yeah, press a button and slide your finger, we'll do it for you... Great tutorial btw Phil as usual! Still waiting for a Rekordbox full integration with spotify. That would be a real game changer and possibly surpass all competitors...
It's coming...
Anyone know why there no sound when I connect my phone to speaker set but it only happens when I use wedj app but on all of the other apps it works fine
Affordable, decent and functional controller from the looks of it. Personally I was intrigued by for PC use. But having no audio interface on-board throws me off. Great video and review 🍻
Thanks for the thumbs up! :)
Hey Phil very good review as ever...to complete your info, this console now is supported plug & play by Virtualdj 2018
Good news, thanks Massimo.
Buying this today, because boris lockdown in November and finally practice djing. I did viynl for abit, some people thought I was good, so I am going to get it today.
Glad to hear it Lee, have fun!
Absolutely fantastic, welcome all new comers into the DJ world thanks to this 'cute' little 'wonder machine'. Great present form a DJ dad for a DJ son! Well done Pioneer! 👍
We think many kids will be getting one of these for birthday/Christmas...
@@digitaldjtips more than kids this would be perfect for carrying on the road, vacation, etc. etc.
Indeed!
Great comment @DJ Ranx. I’m thinking of buying one for our sons (11yo and 9yo).
And me (8 and 6)!
That's a good way for me to practice while I'm in my car or at work for lunch...
Yeah it's perfect for that!
I actually would like to see these features in the likes of a DDJ 400, eg. Bluetooth midi and streaming support. Just a simple setup that could add som flare to parties, where the only thing you need to bring is the actual controller (assuming you always got your phone with you anyway). This one however is a bit too lackluster and toy-ish to be able to use as anything but that.
Great video! Thank you!
No problem!
Thanks for the review 👌👌👌
You're welcome
Great review, thankyou
No problem :)
An awesome controller! Instant buy!
Let us know how you get on with it...
Thats insane that it is wireless from the controller!!!! Wow
Certainly something different!
Is it only compatible with spotify on Iphones, or Adroid as well ?
I bought this as my first equipment for DJing it's more of a toy then anything worthy of anything else but listening to ur music with headphones only, but for the price it's a nice controller for beginners
Thanks for the lessons
No problem :)
I love you DDJ 200
There must be a way to record as I’m using the DJAY app with my ddj200’s and mixing music off soundcloud but it will not allow me to record via this app . I’m running the decks off my ipad is there any way of recording a set so I can then upload my mix’s . Of course with normal decks you can use a sound card but I know you can’t do this with the ddj200’s . Can anyone help me in any way please . I would greatly appreciate it
I have just ordered DDJ-200, thanks! :) btw, does anybody know what is the full name of the song named "Ready to go"?
Looks cool!
Awesome video thanks !!
No problem!
Great Video Phil :)
Thanks TimmyG
Thanks for the video, very informative. I have bought one for my sons 8th B'day coming up in October. He will have a lot of fun with it, no doubt. Is there a way of charging the Ipad during use?
Not unless you but an adaptor cable - they do exist. I bet he has a lot of fun!
Very informative well put together video thank you! unfortunately I bought this thinking it would be more compatible with android... hopefully coming soon
Hopefully!
Thank you very much.
Great review. I get what your saying about an integrated battery to lose the charging adapter however most bluetooth speakers have a USB power output or you could use a power bank albeit there would need to be a cord. I have had a wego4 for when basically backpacking and currently use a ddj400 at home. When I'm out out the rx2 and cdj's are used. The ultimate turning point is when rekordbox and some of the higher end controllers have the streaming function integrated because as you said this isnt the future it is now.
Yes :)
Good point re speaker USB.
My office / studio doesn't have a lot of space so I think this is the one. It'll look nice next to my belt drive turntable and records
Cool :)
i just bought DDJ200 but when i plug my phone to the input of speaker , the apps wedj completely stop playing the song . Can you help me please ?
Brilliant !
If you connect the USB to a laptop, does it cut out the bluetooth?
can you record music on it from sound cloud and other streaming services as the we go 4 didnt allow this
No, you can't record when streaming
You mentioned a mono splitter cable? Can you elaborate on that a bit? I will be hooking it up to a mixer then out to my Mackie thump and jbl subwoofer speakers. So I would definitely need stereo 👍
This is the super portable solution I have been looking for on my tablet. I would have liked the bigger ddj-400 however I'm not sure if that works with the WeDJ app using a wired connection.
Nice one Samuel :
I love the size! Reminds me of my old Hercules DJ Instinct controller. If I use this with rekordbox on my laptop, how will I get sound out? Will the included splitter cable work on the standard mic/headphone port on macs and windows laptops? This would be a really good backup controller for my DDJ1000. I think the DDJ400 is also a good option but the size of this one really hits the spot for me. Maybe an in-between 'DDJ300' wtih built-in soundcard, same size, but with browser knobs and track load buttons should be developed too. That would be good for managing libraries, playlists, cue points and testing out new song combinations maybe...
Maybe a DDJ-300 is coming...
Utilizzando la micro usb per convertire e sdoppiare per l’uscita cuffia e master, come si carica lo smartphone o tablet? Non puo lavorare solo con la batteria per tante ore… fatemi sapere grazie.
I think you sold me on getting this over the numark partymix or ddj sb3/400
Glad to help :)
Very informative. Now makes want to get one. How would it work with Spotify? That part wasn't mentioned? Thanks Phil.
It works with Algoriddim's djay app, which works with Spotify.
DENON and Sound UNITED now owns PIONEER and ONKYO home audio,
announced on google on 15th may, maybe things will progess,
only time will tell, #facts
Great video ... thank you .... what small cable you need from your iPhone to the cable for speakers and headphones ? I have iPhone 10xr
It's the Apple headphones adaptor
Curiosity satisfied. Thanks!
you're welcome!
Can in do loop increase and decrese in this controller?
Would be awesome if it could connect to the Sonos Beam
