I already have a DDJ 400 and I don’t think this has enough modifications for me to swap. However, if I was buying a brand new beginner controller then I would definitely buy this. I like the idea of getting other people involved who wouldn’t normally DJ using the sync/smart fader.👍
I was looking for my first controller back in May 2023 and I really wanted to get the DDJ400. New and used DDJ400s were selling well above a brand new DDJFLX 4 ($300) so I went for the DDJFLX 4. I am soooo happy I went for the DDJ FLX 4 over the DDJ400. And I thought I’d prefer Rekordbox over Serato, but thanks to this controller being compatible with both I was also able to try Serato and I’m really liking Serato a lot more.

Once the new software launches that allows you to utilize your mobile device, would this open the door utilize bluetooth powered speakers via your iPad?? Or would you run into some issues??
Important question, the DDJ SB3 has two buttons to switch to deck 3&4 but the FLX 4 does not? Is there a way to still use all 4 decks in Serato DJ or is it strictly 2 channel? I don’t want to drag and drop tracks lmao
Im impressed Sir😊awesome review, as I have commented before, and I really appreciate all your videos from you took your advice controllers currently. I have a question, did they get rid of the original sync button on this unit? Being disabled and only have ability to use one arm properly I depend on the sync button, and I think it's a wonderful feature on controllers. And like you said, if you don't like it, don't press it. Well said! Also, is there any controller and software that will work with the chrome book? I am desperate to get that working for now until I get windows. Thank you.
This still has a sync button on it. There is an app called Beatport DJ that works on a Chromebook, I am not sure if you can plug in a controller and get that to work though on a Chromebook.
I am confused about the USB-C outputs and the cable Pioneer will provide with the unit. Does it have USB-C on one end and USB-A on the other end or USB-C on both sides? Will I need to buy any extra cables to connect it to my iPad?
Another great vid. Im thinking of getting back into things, thanks to you im leaning towards the fx4, one question, can you record your sets to either directly to iPhone or laptop or would it be downloaded to one of the apps, serato for example, and then listen to my set when ever i want?
Thank you. That leads me to another question. I have lots of vinyl from back in the day that i put onto my iPhone through iTunes. Can i access those on the fx4 ?
I have the flx4. I read many times complains about the rca output only. I know xlr have 10 db output more, but, is this a real problem?? I use 3 meters long rca cable to get the signal in my column speaker and I never use over 60% of the master output of this controller. Someone told me that if I add a good mixer, that boost the xlr output, my speaker can be louder without clipping. Is it true??
FLX4 is a consumer controller with a consumer output. The problem with long cables is that distortion can be introduced, hence why balanced cables are better for long distances. If your audio sounds OK, don't worry about it.
hi! having the same issue right now as I just purchased this controller. do you mind sharing where you purchased a charger and cables that are compatible?
@@assimaimataliyeva9546 Of course so: If you want to charge your mac just take your normal cable and recharge it as always. The second usb c cable goes from the mac to de flx-4 controller. This is already enough. It works like that you don't need more, just the cable for your speakers of course
One downside, many tout this unit as "Portable" yes I can carry it in a bag, but I can't easily power it from say a hill top, I can't power the Ipad and use the data lead for the DDJFLX4 and keep the ipad charging without a special USB C Y splitter to Ipad lead. Queation : Can the DDJFLX4 be powered via a USB Battery pack? 5v 2amps? inline with a USB Y-Split lead 2 into 1?

If i was to use this controller on the road mobile DJ whats the headphones monitoring like are the headphones loud enough if i plug it into a bigger system. What is the sound quality like if it was plugged into a system with an external mixer
You'd get by, but neither headphone volume nor audio quality are as good as truly pro gear.
Hey, I’m new to Dj controllers, so I’m trying to understand what I need to use FLX4 iPhone as far as equipment, why can’t I use features, no audio through speakers except the iPhone, what sources for music I only see 2 tracks and can’t find the playlist that I in beginning…. In short I can’t find a video for the FLX4 101 for beginners, sorry for lengthy response
No, it doesn't work with Rekordbox natively
Hi Phil, could you tell us if we can use this unit on MacBook Pro 2011 with USB TYPE A? Do we need to power the unit or just the USB power is enough? Thanks!
Should work fine
What software does it use the FLX4?
Appreciate your input 👍
Ty
Rekordbox #1
i have a problem regarding the connection if the controller to my PC, the motherboard’s USB slots are Type A, could i buy and wire that could convert Type C to Type A?
Yes
@@digitaldjtips is there a high possibility that any converter would work?
WHAT CASE BEST FOR THIS UNIT
Once the new software launches that allows you to utilize your mobile device, would this open the door utilize bluetooth powered speakers via your iPad?? Or would you run into some issues??
Won't ever work for DJing, due to latency.
Is this better than the numark mixstream pro ? I’m in the market
We compare then at the end of the video.
Is there an automapping for virtual dj?
Yes
Phil my friend, can you tell me the release Date from the New recordbox app you're talking about? Is Already there?
No, soon apparently
@@digitaldjtips thx cause right now its beginning of 2023 like they Said
Hello. I wonder do i get cables in the box to connect it to my pc or do i have to buy it seperatly?
You get one usb-c cable
Does FLX 4 offer key lock? So the pitch doesn't change when we chamfe tempo?
Yes
So let me get this straight, you said serato can work on my iPad or android tablet now!!?
No, it can't.
@@digitaldjtips thanks for clarifying, always love your content, keep up the great work !
can this work well with traktor pro 3 too? tnxs
Not well or easily
Is it have Output USB C 2.0 or 3 ?
Looks great
Important question, the DDJ SB3 has two buttons to switch to deck 3&4 but the FLX 4 does not? Is there a way to still use all 4 decks in Serato DJ or is it strictly 2 channel?
I don’t want to drag and drop tracks lmao
No, there are no layer buttons on the FLX4
I bought it. Thank you for video qnd also to support my country Ukraine 💥🌹❤
Our pleasure!
Will it work with rekordbox 5?
Good question, not sure but we'd say probably.
Hi everyone. Can this be connected to Yamaha studio monitor?
You can connect controllers to any audio equipment, they nearly all have two RCA out sockets.
Will it work with Virtual DJ?
If not now, then imminently, yes.
I am confused about the USB-C outputs and the cable Pioneer will provide with the unit. Does it have USB-C on one end and USB-A on the other end or USB-C on both sides? Will I need to buy any extra cables to connect it to my iPad?
Both USB-C
@@digitaldjtips my MacBook doesn’t have USB-C, so this means I’ll have to buy a USB-C to USB-A cable. That sucks. Hope it works as expected
very nice!
Pleased to help
Another great vid. Im thinking of getting back into things, thanks to you im leaning towards the fx4, one question, can you record your sets to either directly to iPhone or laptop or would it be downloaded to one of the apps, serato for example, and then listen to my set when ever i want?
If you are DJing with a laptop, there is a Record button in the software. This only works with music you own, not with streaming services.
Thank you. That leads me to another question. I have lots of vinyl from back in the day that i put onto my iPhone through iTunes. Can i access those on the fx4 ?
vinyl vs jog mode availble? I do not see it in flx4 i have bought
No, I think it is permanently on vinyl mode
I have the flx4.
I read many times complains about the rca output only.
I know xlr have 10 db output more, but, is this a real problem?? I use 3 meters long rca cable to get the signal in my column speaker and I never use over 60% of the master output of this controller.
Someone told me that if I add a good mixer, that boost the xlr output, my speaker can be louder without clipping. Is it true??
FLX4 is a consumer controller with a consumer output. The problem with long cables is that distortion can be introduced, hence why balanced cables are better for long distances. If your audio sounds OK, don't worry about it.
@@digitaldjtipszero noise interference ...I was curious about the max SPL of my speaker at clipping point.do you think it's the same?
How to access 3 and 4 deck on the flx4
You can't, it is a two-deck controller unfortunately
@@digitaldjtips so the SB3 is a waaaaay better controller
I'm confused about the cables... if I want to charge the mac with my 96V cable while playing, is a 20V iPhone plug for the FLX4 controller enough?
Good question, we are not sure if this would charge a Mac when wired up in that way.
hi! having the same issue right now as I just purchased this controller. do you mind sharing where you purchased a charger and cables that are compatible?
@@assimaimataliyeva9546 Of course so: If you want to charge your mac just take your normal cable and recharge it as always. The second usb c cable goes from the mac to de flx-4 controller. This is already enough. It works like that you don't need more, just the cable for your speakers of course
Hi mate if I order this now will it work with the WeDJ app or do I have to wait till the start of 2023 for them to release the app
We don't think this will work with WeDJ.
It' maybe possible to build a DC 9v 3amp battery pack, not sure if it'll work on the 5V USB Bus power port which needs 5v 500mA.
FROM Pioneer:
Power Consumption
Via USB power adapter:
DC 9V, 3A (mains lead)
Via USB bus power: DC 5V, 500 mA. if anyone has run thia via 5V battery bank please let me know!! :)
Can I use Rekordbox for free with the purchase of the DDJ-FLX4? I'm just a beginner.
Yes
Where would you even buy one of these? everywhere I check they are out of stock or on back order.
It's hard! Many people are managing to get them but it seems not everyone.
why is their and indicator light ring with no indicator light?
Probably just aestehtics
