Thank you, Mark, for your riveting, truly moving, and inspirational life story that you narrated in your inimitable style: fluent, straight from the heart, and absolutely engaging. We've been combing the internet for stories of sheer bravery and unwavering faith in our human capacity to bounce back from adversities, despite setbacks and pitfalls strewn all around. We are recommending this post, including your enlightening website, to some Americans here in Florida who, because we're immigrants from the Philippines, have been begging us for everything we can share with them about our native country. Some of them have long been planning to retire there, and your deep insights and personal experiences there as an expat for years who's now raising a family (with a baby soon to come! CONGRATULATIONS!) would become guideposts for them to use and cherish. Thank you for befriending expats who, like you, have profound and abiding respect for the people, culture, and women of the Philippines.

It's amazing how once you moved to the Phils that your life just started taking one serendipitous turn after another with a few wee bumps in the road-- it's almost like it was all meant to be. You defeated the dragon of depression and pushed through to the other side and now you have a "happily ever after" life. It's an inspiration to those who are in the same boat as you once were . It's really a beautiful story that gives others hope.

I'm a Flatlander stuck up here in a mountain town. I am a law abiding citizen and veteran Trying to work my way through the incredibly corrupt justice system here in the police state of America. Hoping to get the hell out of here before they manage to bust me down below the poverty line. Painfully sell my positions for pennies on the dollar like Mark did.
And I can't wait to get away from these small town local yocals . Amazing how wicked nasty and cruel some of these locals can be towards an outsider. My life is miserable here and I'm trying like hell to get out. People's minds getting darker at every level of society! I'm just telling myself that I'm going to be there one of these days. And when I get there, I will be looking for a boat.

Thanks for sharing your story Mark. It gives hope. I'm American female in a European country and can't see myself here forever. I trying to figure out do I stay, go back to America, or another country. I know your audience is male but as a female I enjoy listening to all the story's and what gets people there. And what they have over come as well. Some story's are so inspiring and make me smile. Can't imagine what it would be like for a single woman living in the Philippines. I'll continue to listen, wait and see what happens. I'm glad you got your second chapter in the Philippines and life is so much better for you. Blessings to Jenn and the baby.

Unfortunately, not everyone can say that Things are getting harder, and it's easy to lose hope for something better in life. You are the proof it can be done...

Thanks for the new video and it's a story worth hearing again. You're one of the first channels I watched about The Philippines on RUclips and about your life. It was a good story for me to hear at the time and after maybe a 6-12 month period I came here and I'm getting things back to stable. I think it's a positive story and helps give people some hope who are struggling with all the things you mentioned back home - friends who have passed away, inflation and job changes as we get older. Best to you and your wife and I hope for a pleasant delivery at a hospital you like.

Hello Mark, I am French and I follow your videos which I find very interesting. Amazing how you were able to take advantage of the difficult situation you were in. I am 66 years old, I have visited Thailand several times, which I really like, but too many tourists. I watched your videos and also those of your compatriots, which made me want to see what my expatriation possibilities were, but the downside with my age is the health coverage which does not work after 65 years old or with exorbitant amounts, so I backed away from the problem. Sounds like i would fit in there too. I have no family just one brother. The only thing I'd have to take with me is my record collection, about 1000, mostly rock and heavy metal. My income right now is fairs and festivals doing face painting and temporary tattoos mostly, and i make toys and wood crafts. Don't know if there would be a market there for a face painter. I'm also an artist, I'm trying to get my art going on the Internet. I can do space art and some wild stuff like flaming skulls. I also do airbrush t shirts.

I was stuck on Catanduanes for 2 more months before I could travel to Manila (St. Luke’s hospital in BGC) I was there for 7 additional months before I could fly back to the USA because of blood clots in my leg. I am partially paralyzed in my right (dominant) side and trying to recover. I would love for my Filipina wife (20yrs married) to be able to return there in Philippines.

Good morning Mark, Just sitting here listening to your video, I have a big question for you I recently Lost my social security benefits from America February the 2nd of the month & now also March 1st, I am definitely a American citizen living in the Philippines, on the luzon Island. I am living in San Jose del Monte city, Bulacan, muzon area. I've been trying to get ahold of the US embassy in Manila and nobody to talk with or nothing, just a operator & recording which I have left massages, All I need is just appointment with social security in manila.I have run out of options.I have called america soc. sec. and many different places & am not getting any where, I was wondering if you knew anything about anything I could do about my situation. I almost forgot I also have been online sent a form called FBU & submited it to social security & set it to Manila embassy hoping to get appointment with social security office and no response either, I've done that twice.Thank you for any thing that you could may help me with, so much appreciated..😢

I suggest you call the Social Security office in the city you applied at.
The office in Manila does accept phone calls but only for a couple of hours twice a week. You can also email them

If you were making 15 - 20K per month and you lost your house and everything else, you must have had some serious financial irresponsibility going on.

I love your channel and this was a great episode, unfortunately - the PH is not as cheap as it used to be.

Hey Mark, hello from Florida Thanks for sharing your heartwarming experience brother 🙌.
I’m trying to get my ducks in a row for a visit to the Philippines. I am retired now, but before I just make a 100% commitment I’ll get my boots on the ground and check out the landscape first for a while.
I know this is a personal question and you may have mentioned it in other videos or during this one, but I missed it, what was your monthly SSI installment?
