It's Winter in the UK and one of my favourite mushrooms to forage is the Wood Blewit! It's a little gem and if you look hard enough, you'll find some! Check it out.
It is the first year for me to get know wood blewits. I was always passing by them, but when they occupied my 2-year-old raised vegetable bed, I checked what they were and been nicely surprised. From now on, it is my favourite mushroom because it grows like crazy in my garden...😊
I've yet to spot these, they hide so well. I'm curious how the taste compares to the smell? Hope you are getting out this year, it's been a wonderful late season so far. Love your reactions to a good find, I feel exactly the same joy. 👍
I found them half of the grocery bag today while walking my dog in Georgia, USA, next to woods we've always walked. Will fry with shrimps and salmon for dinner. Never tasted before. Thank you for the video!
I found both types of Purple Gilled Clitocybe Mushrooms in my local cemetery, the lepista Nuda and the lepista sordida, strange how even though there are oak and beech trees present; the Blewits seem to grow under pine the trees probably preferring more acidic substrate. The ground Ivy will be very acidic I guess.
I have been going mushroom picking since I was a child. Wood belwit is my favorite mushroom. The smell and the color is amazing. The best in an omelette.I would always chose it over chicken of the woods, chanterelle, oyster mushroom or porcini.
Another great video - thank you! I found some a few weeks ago and loved them. So great to be able to forage decent edibles right in the middle of winter! Real gems! 👌
I've not managed to find them but will keep an eye out. I was wondering if all the cold weather might have damaged the mycelium and whether we might have a delay seeing other winter mushrooms develop for a while? Do you know?
Hi! May I ask you one thing.? There’s suddenly grew a lot of mushroom in my garden, and I don’t know if it’s dangerous or not. So I don’t dare to touch it. How can I show your pictures so you can tell me if it’s not poison mushroom ?..
I don't know if your mushroom is poisonous or not but I do know that even the most deadly poisonous mushrooms in the UK can be handled completely safely! So long as you don't eat them, you are fine
@@jayaway1361 Nah I've had a bad stomach from CoTW and larch boletes before so I'm a bit cautious. I'm also a bit dubious about whether mushrooms which badly effect some people and not others may have long term effects- ie brown roll rims which are apparently still eaten in some countries.
@@fiveleavesleft6521 ah yes there was a very well known mycologist (although I can’t remember his name!) who loved eating picked roll rims. He did so for years until it killed him. We certainly have to be cautious with mushrooms!!
You have one of the best blewit videos I've seen.
This is my first time to get to know wood blewits! Love the colour too and I wish one day I will see it around my area 😊

Very helpful, thank you. I am fairly confident I have a wood blewit but I am going to do spore print to be sure.
Thanks, beautiful video and mushrooms. 😍🙏
Thank you too!
Thank you ❤
Very informative off to look for some tomorrow cheers . Looks like you enjoyed them 😊

Hey - thanks mate! Much appreciated :)
Very pretty species. As artist I've recently taken more of a intrest in fungi. They came in so many colors . Much love ❤️ 🙏

Hi Heidi - There will be more on the way! Thanks so much for watching me root around! :)

They go really good in Alfredo and you don't need to many
Nice thanks
Thank you 🙏

That’s awesome!! Have you tried the field blewits at all? I’m keeping an eye out for them too 🤞

Ah just read your reply to someone else who asked the same thing! You're all way ahead of me! 😂😜
@@cocis911 no worries 👍
OMG! I saw the Blewit!
Haha, good man! 👍
Are morels found in abundance in the UK ?
Это рядовка лиловоногая...
👋 I just wondered when there’s been a hard frost as we’ve just had for a good few days, will shrooms come up afterwards or does it finish them off?
These little dudes are known to appear after frost so wait for some rain and then go looking. Good luck 🤞

It's annoying that clouded agarics can be dodgy. They smell so damn good.
Totally. Have you eaten one??
