This morning I scouted out the fields behind the back of my house (which I rarely visit), taking with me what I've learned from these videos, and it's opened up a whole new dimension of awareness for me. So far I've identified 11 different edible plant/fungi species, and found several other useful plants/fungi/trees growing there. It goes to show just how disconnected from our roots we have become in our modern, mycophobic world of commerce and consumerism. Thanks for these great vids!
That’s awesome. What sort of things have you found so far? Yeah I agree most people are totally disconnected from nature nowadays. Before WW2 most people would have at least foraged for some of their greens, fruit etc. now it’s too easy and convenient to get stuff from half way around the world
@@UKWILDCRAFTS So, based on what I've learned thus far, I've discovered I've got quality firewood, fire-lighters, weaving materials, medicines, culinary ingredients and tea fodder all growing right on my doorstep... and I've been living here for 31 years in total ignorance! (O_O) I've been making use of birch and pine for kindling, and pine needle tea is my partner's new favourite. I've been using birch polypore for teas, too, as well as pulverising it into a stock powder. And next spring I might just go there instead of Asda for my greens! Foraging is definitely an activity we should be popularising, especially with inflation just around the corner. I intend on being as self-sufficient as can be! :)
Most of the mushrooms peak in the summer in my region, but i envy areas with good autumn foraging. I have been finding a lot of lion's mane and resinous polypore lately!

I’m so glad I stumbled upon your channel, I throughly enjoy the content. Very insightful and informative. I also like how you take your time explaining each variety so as to what to look for. Thank you very much🙏🏼
I do pick and eat the Crested Coral fungus if there's not much else around, but rather for filling out a meal than for taste. They are a little fiddly, but grow in great quantities where I live.
You explain things very well. Like many others, I find it hard to trust myself with mushrooms but after watching this I feel like I could safely identify a couple. If you wrote a book, I would buy it tomorrow.
Thank you for mentioning the birch polypore, I have only learned about it recently. Great health benefits! I harvested some last year, dried it and chopped it to tiny pieces for tea. I saved a couple of slices for polishing the knives too 😂
Can I ask how to distinguish between the clouded agaric clitocybe nebularis and trooping funnels infundibulicybe geotropa? Looks very similar to me in this video and my mushroom identification book. Thanks!
if you notice birds have been eating a mushroom from the beak markings is this an indication it is safe for human consumption ? as my intuition says If it is good for little birds its good for me , but common sense says "but you are not a bird, be cautious "
Hi no I wouldn’t use that as an indicator. They have a different metabolism so can eat some foods that would be toxic to us. The only way is to learn each plant/ mushroom individually :)
I found some growing out of a stump, looked like a type of honey fungus but the gills were attached and ran all the way down the stem. Brown in colour, could you tell me which mushroom it was from that limited description? Cheers
Some types like agarics especially in raw form but possibly still in cooked form contains hydrazine which can cause cancer. Not trying to incite fear just be careful on how many of those types you consume especially raw. Fenbendazole with high tocotrienol vitamin E (alongside mass amounts of vitamin D3 in OIL capsules and vitamin C) and the usual added vitamin K2 for vitamin D3 absorbtion, medicinal mushroom stacks, taking 5-10ml Carbon60 daily etc.... AND doing keto to get rid of all forms of sugars (as cancer grows from sugar) alongside doing occasional weekish long water fasts... Will all allow you to get rid of cancer, if it does occur. Of course go to the doctor and get treatment if you have it but doing alternate stuff on the side is a wise decision to experiment with and this is something I'd highly recommend you research incase yourself or someone you know actually gets some form of cancer in the future. Keep enjoying your mushrooms, just keep an eye and fun fact, if you saw Paul stamets interview with Joe Rogan and he said he couldn't talk about a certain topic, it was because of this and he'd of been in danger. Anyhow lool they're such a beautiful gift from nature, so medicinal yet so great on the plate !!

Wow I never knew that insects see mostly by ultraviolet light. It is so interesting to hear about these things.
An absolute cracking find for me. I've had a keen interest for a year and half now and find fungi fascinating.
@John Smith I'm more the 'fascinated by fungi' type. I get my kicks other ways, mushroom days are well behind me.

@@UKWILDCRAFTS Amazing thanks a lot
Very nice . Greeting from Greece.
😁
See I would of confused the jelly disc with the jelly ear fungus .thanks. although the look very similar 😊
They do look similar, same texture. It’s the downward facing cups that show jelly/ wood ear
I have never seen any of those porcelain mushrooms.
AHA! So it was with poisonous mushrooms, that you spiked Deontay's water! I KNEW it!
Thank you sir
Thanks and you’re welcome 😊
Bravo fungi
I have eaten the cloudy agaric. Did not make me sick.
Its not a super tasty one but they are abundant
I know a few people that have eaten them, made some ill and some not
I wonder what they called the candle snuff one before candles were developed
How did you learn to identify all of these? Was it through self learning or were you taught? Super impressive 👌🏽
Mostly through self learning. Years of going out with books and learning the key features. Also from going on a few walks/ courses :)
@@UKWILDCRAFTS oh wow! I’d definitely end up poisoning myself 😂 awesome though dude. Might just pick up a book myself. Cheers for the reply 😊
Why is it best to remove the spines from the Hedgehog Mushroom, please?
You don’t have to, they just aren’t pleasant to eat, they go a bit mushy
@@UKWILDCRAFTS Ahh Thankyou.

Hi, I found a bunch of coral mushrooms last year but they were yellow. Does that render them inedible?
Hi :). Hard to say as there’s so many possible species. Are you sure it wasn’t yellow stagshorn (Calocera viscosa)?
@@UKWILDCRAFTS Could have been :)

That clouded agaric is growing very close to yew. I'm not sure I'd eat it because of that.
Please everyone be carefull not to take too many fungi from the wild as they are getting more & more scarce. I leave them for the wild creatures now.
hmm ok thanks for leaving as more for other foragers..
Newbie here, but are you sure the old hen of the woods isn’t a cauliflower fungus?
